How are the different armor permutations unlocked? Hayabusa? Marathon?

Could you give us some broad (NO SPOILERS PLEASE) info as to how the terminals themselves work and fit into the Campaign?

Aww, no Team Elite antics yet.

Having had some considerable time with Halo 3's campaign on Heroic difficulty, I feel I'm qualified to share some impressions and opinions with you guys to help accurately describe what you can expect. This will be a SPOILER FREE write-up, but for those who want everything to be new, maybe you should skip this. I'll be describing enemy tactics and behavior, and some of you might want to leave those things as a surprise for your first time through. That said, those of you who are still here can help make the wait for Monday a little easier (or harder?) by taking in the following.

-There are new types of enemies!
You'll notice it when you run into the flood for the first time. It looks like they merged with animals or species we have not seen in Halo and the byproduct is a couple of new threats.

-Multiplayer outfits are in the campaign!
So far I've seen the "Recon" outfit on one, but its mostly been "Assault" Elites.

-Grunts are much more cocky and erm....let's not spoil this and just say they have less regard for their own lives. :)

-Enemy counts are much, much higher than the previous Halo games. For example, there used to be grunt packs of 3 to 5. Now there's 10-15. And that doesn't even include the other enemies in the area fighting alongside the grunts. At times, you'll see groups of about a dozen or so Brutes hanging around. Some will have specialty jobs like snipers or cannon users as well so you're not just fighting 12 of the same guy, all armed with the same weapon.

-The dialogue spewed from allies and enemies is varied! Its a welcome feeling to hear so much chatter at times. While it is more common than ever, I'm pleased to report that it is never out of place and manages to compliment of mood of each situation.

-Remixed music tracks from previous Halo games are on the soundtrack! If you've spent a substantial amount of time with the first two games, you'll recognize the remixes as soon as you hear them. The term "remix" makes me think of a P. Diddy version of the Halo monk chant with a drum beat behind it, but its not like that at all. Think of it more as a remaking of classic songs, with new parts added and layered in to compliment the songs.

-There are MULTIPLE pathways through most areas! The best part about this is that sometimes the branches can change your approach to a battle. Sometimes a path can lead you straight into the maw, and other times, if you look, you can end up on a nice high point next to a carefully laid sniper rifle. While this has always been the case in Halo games, its much more evident in Halo 3. It also becomes very clear how much fun co-operative play can be in this game.

-Vehicles don't feel as "mandatory" this time. In Halo 2, you were almost forced to take the Scorpion tank across the infamous "bridge" due to the sheer number of ghosts you had to encounter along the way. This time, there are lots of encounters with vehicles, but because of your increased number of allies, you are much more free to proceed on foot. This may not sound like a great idea at first, but when you consider taking on the role of a sniper, or vehicle jacker, you can make it much easier for your allies. You work "with" them this time rather than "for" them. To prove my point, I was up against two wraiths, a handful of brute choppers, and a couple of shades in one area. Seems like a lot, right? My first instinct was to drive around in endless circles in my warthog while letting my gunner take out each vehicle, one at a time. After a couple of deaths, I decided to try a new approach. I let my warthog drive around by itself (it should be noted I had one other fully loaded hog at this point, as well as a commandeered brute chopper) while I took to high ground and sniped enemy drivers. Then, I realized that the wraiths had plasma gunners onboard that were making life difficult for everyone. So, I sniped them while they were pre-occupied with my allies. While the rest of the team utilized a combined effort to destroy one of the wraiths, I boarded the remaining one and planted a grenade in it. Which brings me to...

-Planting grenades in enemy wraiths is more satisfying than ever. Chief doesn't open any hatches because he simply doesn't have the time for that. Instead, he ignites a grenade and punches through the hatch with it in his hand. That said, I was never given the option to DRIVE the wraith. My only option was to plant the grenade. Somewhat disappointing, but I got over it quickly as I noticed my buddies doing donuts and cheering over our enemy's destruction.

And that's what I have for you so far. I will play some more tonight and report back in a few hours. Please note that so far I have not found ANY skulls and I haven't activated ANY terminals. Not because I've been avoiding them, but because I have not seen them. Or if I have seen them, I didn't realize it. Also, I have recieved no information about unlocking multiplayer armor. I have not checked since I first started the game (just before begining campaign), but I will make a note to check again now that I've completed 5 levels. Thank you for reading and I hope this has helped entertain you during the grueling wait!

Through Victory, my chains are broken. The Force shall set me free!

If Bioware makes a Halo RPG I will turn gay.

Seriously, lots of cool spoilers in that write-up.

Already too a few funny ones for GAF to chew over. I'm just waiting for the servers to go live. :D

Any tracks in specific that you can remember?

I know it's very unlikely, but I would love to hear an updated "On a Pale Horse", "Covenant Dance", or "Under Cover of Night".

I haven't fully grasped that I will have this game in practically 2 days now, wow. :)

Consider my love for you indescribable. <3 (If you could also upload some first-person screens with the HUD and all, that'd be great. :D It'll really help us to get over the longest weekend ever.)

One that I remember, which I loved and gave me chills, was a remix of
Ghosts of Reach.
SO, so good.

Ohhh, nice.

I quickly skimmed over Uno's post, but nothing jumped out to me as a spoiler.

Uno, you have spoiler shit in your third line!!!!

I don't want to know that stuff!!

I can't figure out what you consider the spoiler? I've revealed nothing about the story! All I talked about was what I mentioned in my opening paragraph. I thought I accurately described what I'd be talking about. Sorry if I spoiled something you didn't want to know.

You don't consider
The Flood taking over animals?
a spoiler? I'm sorry my friend but you are going on ignore until after launch.

Thank you Internet-ADD for helping me not read any of the spoilers in Uno's writeup.

*phew*

Oh, and anybody have any bites on the HDD transfer cable thing? I'll pay for shipping and everything. Once again, I'd really appreciate it.

Ok, I've edited my post, but for what its worth, the thing you talked about is NEVER mentioned in any cutscene or dialogue. Its just a conclusion you come to when you put two and two together. I'm sorry about that. I didn't know you wanted to be complete "info-virgins".

Man, I'm bummed cuz I really thought I was giving you guys info you'd want. I thought as long as I steered away from specific events, dialogue, and cutscenes, we'd be money. Sorry guys.

luckily I already had him on ignore!

I must say I'm really disappointed with the limited edition scratch disk thing. I don't like corners cut when I pay extra for a premium version of a game.

i'm falling into this Halo 3 hype. It's unavoidable I feel like getting the game and I dont even really like Halo!

I have a friend who's never played a Halo game and never touched a 360 controller that went out and bought a Premium last week just because of the Halo 3 hype.

:lol

You're talking about gameplay stuff that no one knows about yet. Do you know what a "spoiler" is?

THAT I kind of didn't want to know until I played the game. But oh well.

Aren't we a smart one.

So like, is there a gallery of all the armor types discovered so far for Spartans? I've seen like 4 or 5 maybe, but I'd like some comparison shots if they've been set up yet. Any luck?

Yeah, I'm feeling your pain and I really don't want to buy the regular edition too. I may actually pay the extra money for the cat helmet.

I'd much rather hear about how you feel about it...did it meet your expectations? Do battles feel epic? Any good grenade+grunt stories? Any nice combat encounters? How does the AI behave differently from before?

I'd love to hear about these things, just don't mention story or specifics.
