credibility = wtf are you on, I just got the game to, Im new to it so STFU,

You will find that most people play games on normal, this is also their default setting in most games....

You have to make a stack of crates, then put the item you want to float in the air at the top, then remove the crates. After that, the item that was originally on the crates will remain hovering in the air and cannot be shot down.

I can endure the "copious volumes of shit" from you my friend. Not too fond of the "you're an embarrassment to Bungie, PLAY IT PROPERLY" bullshit I received from someone so memorable that I can't remember who they were.

I started playing Halo 3 on Normal today for two reasons (apart from my finger was pressing the A button faster than it ever has when that title screen loaded):

1) I want to enjoy the story of Halo 3 without any logjams or headaches at all. I'll have the next five years to play the last level I just played (OMFG) on Legendary, but you only get ONE chance to experience the story. To do this, you have to play from start to finish without getting stuck in a frustrating crevice.

2) I played from 1pm till 5pm and I'm at the 8th full level (now I'm doing the dinner/parent thing). That means tonight, while you guys are playing Skate, BioShock and Halo 2, I'm going to be jumping into Legendary on Sierra 117. With the story freshly out of the way, I can focus entirely on AI, weapon distribution, campaign level design and the other aspects of gameplay. If I am afforded the time and I'm not distracted by Forge or Multiplayer, I'll have Legendary in my pocket before you get your copies anyways...
 
The "manipulate item" trigger is awesome. I can hold a Warthog or tank or whatever in midair and spin it and rotate it. It looks really, really cool. It'll look even cooler when you're watching it from another perspective, since the item can actually be a decent distance from the person manipulating it. It'll just look like a tank hovering in midair, doing flips and stuff. Looking very much like the "hand of God" phrase used in the Vidoc.

How many fucking times have we been told that normal in Halo 3 is for beginners?
 
I'm still debating what difficulty me and my pals should go through on coop. I want a challenge, but I don't want a crawl. Can anyone who has played through it on Legendary with 3 buddies (all 5 of you out there) tell me what I should do?

I'm going to leave this response out of spoiler tags because I won't be mentioning or referencing anything above what we've already been told in the Forge article on Bnet.

You have to consider that Bungie had to strike a balance. They would want to get as much out of the Xbox 360 as they could for the core multiplayer experience. If the engine could support 16 tanks on the map, they would be better served using that extra power for other things, because 16 tanks is not what you encounter in your average game. I would suggest, therefore, that it isn't the 360 is not powerful enough - it would be the same on any future platform too - the main gameplay experience should be using the vast majority of resources, because that’s what’s played most of the time. It should therefore showcase what the engine is capable of on the hardware with little breathing room.

They would have to make a specific decision in advance to eat into their resource budget for the sake of these crazy scenarios, and then have their main gameplay experience not as rich as it could otherwise be, in order to allow room for expansion with Forge overdoses.

Maybe like 8 scorpions, plus a mongoose as some kind of ball, and you can have 4v4 makeshift soccer matches

Or whatever, I'm sure people would think of something if you could throw in a rediculous amount of vehicles

I'm just surprised you decided to sprint through. As you said, we've waited years for this. What I want to do is savor my first playthrough, not gorge myself. In the story, the stakes are high, and I want to feel like that's the case by having the game provide a sufficient challenge and allow the story reveals itself gradually.

I know you love the story more than most, so I thought perhaps you'd run through to absorb it quickly, but to me the totality of my experience on that first playthrough is more important. Heroic seems tailored for that.

Note I'm ignoring you rubbing the early playtime in my face. :p

Can't wait to get the band back together next week.

I don't have the game, obviously, but all of what you just described was covered the second part of the Forge guide, so it's not at all surprising.
 
im more of a college fan but my uncle has good seats for the colts games, i justdont like the rca dome..it kills the football experience for me

and its a decent drive from the ville to indy, but i usually get to go to 1 game a year so im in no position to complain

Because you can save the map and then play it straight up multiplayer. You can only be 8 players while editing the map (or dropping fusion cores on people).

Once you've tweaked the map and saved it, you can then play 16 players.

So from the looks of it my transport hog aint in multiplayer which just kinda ripped my heart out. Also, can anyone tell me how the Gauss cannon sounds?

So, for you guys that have the game - what skulls have you found? I've collected
Thunderstorm, Mythic, Iron, Blind, and Famine.
And hearing the guys on the podcast talk about the "skull of all skulls" excites me to no end.

Just finished listening to the podcast. Hilarious, entertaining and informative, as always. A very enjoyable listen.

And it's great to hear that the soundtrack has been confirmed. I mean, we knew it was probably coming anyhow, but it's good to hear that Marty is going to take care to make it what he wants.

Anyway, Luke, there is an item in Forge called
custom power-up
, but I don't see anywhere to edit what it does.

Edit: You can move flags (both the flag's spawn point and where it has to be placed). Don't believe the other poster.

FOR VYSE:
Custom Power-Up Traits are set in the Player Traits area, you can create what the custom power up does there and it will be applied to the game variant you are editing.

I thought the descriptions would describe exactly what they do, but they don't.
However, the ones I've found are also in Halo 2, so I'd assume they have the same effects (I haven't actually tried them out yet).

Here's what the descriptions say in the campaign options menu in Halo 3:

Iron: Death carries a heavy price...
Famine: Trust us. Bring a magazine.
Thunderstorm: Field promotions for everyone!
Mythic: Coverage under the Covenant Health Plan.
Blind: Shoot from the hip.

And here's what HighImpactHalo.org says about their effects in Halo 2:

Iron: When playing cooperative play, you are instantly reverted to last checkpoint if either player dies regardless of difficulty.
Famine: All weapons found on the ground have less ammo/battery than normal.
Thunderstorm: Makes all grunts and elites Spec. Op.
Mythic: Proven: not quite anything yet... Theoretical: Makes all enemies have more base health (after shield). This is unconfirmed, but there is strong evidence towards this. OR makes MC do less damage with all of his attacks (basically, no one knows what this one does).
Blind: Your screen becomes HUDless.

Man, it sure would be nice if Bungie.net had a thing up about the skulls maybe right before the game was actually supposed to release. Those lazy jerks

Do you know if their locations were given to Prima for the strategy guide? I really, really hope not. Even so, there are some skulls that don't give achievements, so they wouldn't be listed in the guide, right? I'm just hoping for some epic, long lasting skull-hunting.

Like I quoted, HighImpactHalo doesn't even know the effects of all of the skulls, and it's been three years. It'd be lousy if Prima printed it all and the fans didn't get to discover it for themselves.
 
This game has made our back room look like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I'll try and grab footage of the line for launch night.

Neither can I, neither can I.

Bungie did a number on us. I've got to do a few things before I finish the fight, which I'm one level closer to. To me, it's not as much of a gorging situation as it is wanting to enjoy my meal over the course of a few hours rather than days. Like I said before, we'll have years to enjoy the minutiae of every aspect in campaign gameplay, but you only get one chance to play through campaign smoothly - and I took it.
