On the whole MLG thing....

While many of you will complain about their rule sets, you've got to remember its not geared for everyone. Halo is fine-tuned for the massess, and MLG the more elite.
MLG rules are setup so the game becomes harder, thats all. Their rule-sets usually require much more coordination without radar, and you get punished stepping out on your own. You guys make it sound like these guys can't play/win by the default rules, and thats just not the case. Most of the MLG guys would dismantle most of you with the AR just as they would the BR, or most likely have a much better chance/plan of controlling the ranged weapons leaving you and your AR out in the cold against their BR whoring. You should be happy they have an altered rule set they play by because otherwise these guys are going to focus exclusively on matchmaking and make your night a living hell. While I personally prefer playing with radar because it keeps the game moving, and adds and extra layer of stealth, that I like... I can't knock their rule set, because it's all about forcing better team play.

You know, one of the things I'm most looking forward to is having some high end films of MLG players (and/or their proteges) playing the games they think are balanced. In Halo 2, I've found such games to be insufferable and uninstructive, generally because I'm too busy ragdolling around from headshots.

But watching some such games from a free perspective should be enlightening. Are the changes really to place a focus on skill? Or do they (knowingly or unknowingly) reduce the decision space to enforce a status quo that they have learned to dominate?

It'll be interesting and instructive.

You can't really believe that, can you?

Mmm hmm.

I'm in the South Eastern area, I can be in TN or VA within an hour. It makes me laugh that UoL would lose to UK, I could care less either way, but it takes a special kind of suck to choke to UK in football.

On a different note, how's your 360 doing?

Still working just fine. The time it crashed was luckily only a one time thing. I moved into a new place, so I don't have internet yet (I'm posting from work really fast like) so that's why I haven't been on XBL lately. Granted, I've only played a couple games of Madden since I've moved in (which is all I'm playing on it since I can't get on the COD4 beta), but it seems to be running like a champ. What I HAVE noticed since I moved is how loud the 360 is. My new place has great acoustics, and even though I have a good sound system to make up for it, you really hear that fan spinning. Here's hoping my 360 lasts for a while longer... = /

Have you ordered for an internet service already? The wait is always at least one week. I move almost once per year since I am in college and I hate the time I dont have internet. The last 2 times I lost connection in my home, I practically moved to my job place. There is this office for admins and I would spend the nights there and practically sleep there. I just cannot be without internet. I do not spend more than 4 hours on my pc during my free time, but still, I hate the feeling of being offline.

I'm from the Akron/Canton area, go to school in Cleveland (Case Western) and will be moving to Louisville, KY at the end of the year for my job.

Of course I believe it's possible, I wouldn't have said it otherwise. And the context of the rest of the post, which escaped your bolding, was that it is a hypothesis that I wish to study with actual evidence instead of defensive forum posts.

Yes. They're coming to the new place to free up the service on the 23rd, and the lady I spoke to told me that if I kept calling them, I might be able to get service sooner. :D

Edit- Even still, the 23rd would be just fine because it's before Halo. Hooray!

Why is Pontiac advertising Halo 3?

Why are there fries being sold with a picture of master chief carton? Why was chevy using Transformers as part of their marketing campaign?

My guess is that they are trying to cash in on the hype, heck there was a toyota matrix or some such car.

You are risking it there. But then again, SP will be enough to keep you busy for 2-3 days.
edit: BTW, nice mix darkresurection. Check the OP, they are doing a GAF album, you should consider it.

I'm also taking a risk with my 360 that's going to inevitably red ring... but that just adds to the excitement!

Thanks, I will have to work on a longer piece for that. I know what I am doing tomorrow!:D

Holy fucking shit, I think everyone in this town is selling Halo 3 in some way or another. I was out all day and it seemed like everywhere I went there were posters, buttons, signs, and shirts about Halo 3. I even overheard the Halo soundtrack being played throughout the mall. It felt like that episode of the Simpsons where Homer stops drinking beer and then's bombarded with Duff ads.

I am Homer Simpson and Halo is my Duff beer.

The only problem I have with MLG Halo 2 matches are the button glitches, there is nothing skillful about crouch melees and your character flying 10 feet towards you and then following it with a headshot immediately due to a flaw in the games mechanics.
Agree 100%. I wonder how those players will do on Halo 3 without them.

Max,

Was in you who said you do not tolerate superbouncing but you condone button glitches (BXR, double shotting, etc.)?

< KY resident as well though I don't like to talk about it that much

I go to EKU. If anyone here goes to EKU and gets Halo 3 please invite me over. :D

Actually MLG uses Halo rules, which are available through our menu, to everyone. MLG did not build our menu options. It's a subtle distinction, but it's important.

That said, we appreciate what the MLG has done to make Halo an important part of the competitive gaming scene. And I think Forge is going to make MLG guys incredibly happy. They can tune it to (subjective) perfection. In fact, I'm excited to see what they make of it.

The ones I'm seeing are like $300, goddamn! I'd love some wireless surround headphones, but not at that price :p

If you watch a horror movie with those things on, you wll shit your pants. They somehow even manage to make bass feel like LFEs.

They are amazing.

Oh, I don't doubt it. For that much I would just upgrade my receiver though. I'm not much of an audiophile, right now I'm just using a JVC receiver I got for like $20 a couple years ago w/the full set of speakers and sub. It does the job fine, but it's old and only has Prologic :lol

Has anyone (besides OverHeat) managed to snag a Halo 3 wireless headset ? My local GameStop says they can't sell them until the 25th which, I believe, is wrong because I've heard other retailers selling them, I'm just not sure. >:(

I believe the official release date is the 18th, but there are a few stores selling them early.

I got mine at Gamestop a week ago. I'm pretty sure your local GS is messed up. Both my Gamestops had them on the shelves, according to the store locater every store near me has them, and they've been shipping from Amazon and are available right now there (they're already backordered at Gamestop.com).

Anyways, for anyone that wants to see some good pics of the Halo 3 Xbox 360, here: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=7840546&postcount=93

I uploaded the pics from a guy from TeamXbox who just got home with it. He also got the BR replica, Carbine, and Missile Case, but I decided not to post those.

Is this what the reviewers have been using?

No, we had to used wired surround headphones because the IR interferes when 16 folks are in the same space.

We used great Sony wired surround headsets instead. One useful thing is that they have two jacks if you wish to play splitscreen.

They are not in the same league as the Pioneers. But they are much cheaper.

I know I'm going to sound like a complete idiot with my next sentence, but, what the hell. So, with these headphones, I don't need to buy anything else other than a receiver, no? It will simulate the surround sound, right?

Do you have a link to those? They sound nice. Plus I'm not that far away from the TV, I just like Wireless stuff.

I'm kicking ass on Team SWAT if anyone wants to join me...

It IS a receiver, or rather true Dolby 5.1 decoder. All you need is the unit. It comes with rechargeable batteries, an optical cable and you're good to go. The (Pioneer) headphones are very light, balanced and provide accurate reproduction of audio.

I have Pioneer VX receivers, Bose cubes and Mordaunt Short speakers and I still get a more immersive sound from the headphones. Run, don't walk.

Man, I wish that, in one of these games where people have metal armor, bullet strikes would spark as well as shoot blood.

So you would just run the Audio Cable into the Transmitter and it transmit the wireless signal. Do you know if the frequency messes with a wireless router and or phone or can you pick the channel its transmits on?

It's infrared, so no. It's clear. Line of sight is AMAZING. On the Pioneers. The Sonys are wired: http://www.nextag.com/mdrds1000/search-html

and not anywhere near as good, but they're cheap!!

What's a good affordable pair of wireless headphones. I've never used them before so how does it all work? I want a pair that has the ear piece cupping the ear not just sitting on it. Doesn't need to be fancy, just an affordable compatible set. Anyone know where I should start?

The only wireless headphones I'd consider using. They are circumaural (around your ears, not resting on your ears) as well.

Of course they are most definitely waaaay out of your price range.

But I much prefer a high end two channel wired headphone set up over even the best wireless.

My preferred setup is an AKG K1000 with a Plantronics Mirage NC, it's the only headphones I've used that allow me to slip a headset comfortable under the ear speaker. Although, with circumaural headphones you might be able to squeeze one in there are well, but it will be pushing it on your ear, and would start to hurt in no time.

While the K1000 costs less than the Hearos 999, the Hearos comes with everything you need to run it out of the box. No separate amplifier or receiver necessary. And given the K1000's needs, the level of amp needed for it, drives the price higher than the Hearos 999 package.

But the K1000 sounds better than the Hearos 999.

Well considering the fact that i never notice the surround sound in a movie theater anyways i usually try to convince my self that i am ok with my triton headphones.

Cool. This post was actually perfect timing, considering the fact that I was gonna go sound-system hunting (mainly for the release of Halo 3) tomorrow. But yeah, I guess I'll have to check these out. The price is a bit steep though, but I'll see. While we're on the topic, anybody have any good recommendations for a nice, yet not too steep priced 5.1 HTIB?

This is fantastic information for Paul Allen and the Sultan of Brunei.

Paying a little extra for good headphones is worth it. If you make a good purchase they'll last a long time.

My homemade amplifier and Grado SR325s have been good to me (just replace the factory cable).
