Hey, so I found out why my connection dropped like a tank from 10,000ft. For some reason my router decided to kill my outbound traffic. I was running 17Mbps DL/0.02Mbps UL, when I was looking at the router settings on another pc in the house my IP was different to the static IP I had set.

My guess (and I stress the word 'guess') is that all my inbound was routed through to the correct IP while any outbound was being sent from my imaginary IP. I dunno... I'll go find someone who knows about networking. :)

Point is, my router was being a dick and our team suffered for it. Sorry guys... I'll kick it for you.

Don't get me started with routers. At one point my PC was slow to connect unless my 360 was switched on....dunno how that happened. Then my 360 decided to put my NAT settings to strict. Weird

We really had no hope at all for victory in the last game; with Eazy and I's connections dying along with being matched up with French/Japanese/Swedish/whatever the fuck country it was in that particular game... I mean really... what could we do?

As I said while playing, you'd think that with 4 Americans and a Scot in a party it would favor the American host instead of giving me host and matching us up against all types of Eurasians.
I've been playing at a disadvantage for years because of American host bias, why change it up now just to ruin the fun for the Americans too?

I currently have my PC running as a gateway for my 360 so I shouldn't have to deal with any of those issues. Connection runs fine unless the router has a fit so I think I'll just leave it the way it is.

I was just giving you a hard time ;) I thought it was funny you did have them in the same order, however :lol
Where did you see Eazy and I getting the last several achievements in the same order? Xbox.com?

Anyway, I got my perfection on Orbital with a triple kill (the last three kills of the game).

haha, i loved banshee surfing with the sniper rifle.

also, putting a man ontop of headlong with rockets was CRUCIAL to headlong. then bungie had to fuck it up and remove the banshee. THANKS BUNGLE.

They took the Banshee off Headlong? Wow...

I remember playing Bomb on Headlong, getting the bomb guy ontop of the map in Big Team and then literally hiding with the bomb on top of the map for _hours_....

true story
I got ontop of the map once with the bomb, and then just went to sleep while everyone else just stayed below killing people. When I woke back up (like 5 hours later) I walked towards the edge to check if people were still playing; within five seconds of looking over the edge I was shot at with a sniper rifle.

man I loved Halo 2 Big Team.

Anyone playing and need an extra person?

I am leaving work now and will be home within 20 minutes, I'm down for games as soon as I get home.

And with a Battle Rifle, eh? Dun worry, we won't tell AR :lol
AR and I have a lot of awesome memories together.

AR knows the Battle Beetle can't compete.

Damn, Perfection and Extermination are the two achievements I have left. I'll need to play some Social Team DLC or something and go for them.

I hope plenty of you will be on for Team Flag later, I'm seeing the midnight showing of District 9 and I'm gonna need something to do between dinner and 11:15 PM.
Everyone in HaloGAF PLEASE go see this movie.

I was going to tell a similar story, cept I was the one on the ground waiting out the jackasses on top of the level with the bomb. When I woke up, the game was over. They scored while we napped.

Oh I've been dying to see District 9. I'll probably go see it tomorrow afternoon. It comes out tomorrow right?

Yeah. I'm especially excited for it because I'm going into it relatively blind. By that I mean that all I've read/seen about the movie is some viral advertisement, two newspaper articles, and the rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Hopefully it'll make the movie more enjoyable.

Also, I've been reading that success with District 9 might help a Halo movie happen. Blomkamp won't do it, of course, but having a this sci-fi movie do really well at the box-office could convince studio execs that a Halo movie is a good idea. At least, I hope.

Things you can do while waiting for Social Big Team to find you a match:

1. Make a sandwich

2. Take a massive crap

3. End Poverty and World Hunger
I've done two of those while waiting for a BTB match. Making a sandwich wasn't one of them.

:lol At first I was surprised you could tell it was a BR from the picture. I was going to praise your eyesight, or the ability to tell a shadowed gun when it was facing at a weird angle.

Then I realised.

In defence of my sharp eagle-like supereyes, I recognized the reload animation before I noted the HUD.

So.. no one wants to play? I'm just sitting in the matchmaking lobby thinking that Team Flag isn't all that fun by yourself.

Last Resort is THE worst map in Halo 3. Can someone please figure out where Last Resort is on the disc, so I can scratch mine there? Thanks in advance.

Eh, Isolation, Snowbound, and Epitaph with AR starts are down there for me. Unless you meant Last Resort in Team Slayer, then I agree. In Big Team it's fine. Shouldn't be in any playlist that is below 6v6, and even then it's stretching it.

rofl - if you're gonna tell people that, you should at least print the right one. :)

(Your gamertag has no space in it.)

Wow, that is more then a little bit embarrassing.

All fixed, Thanks Wu.

Want to come play some games with us, Halo Pro?

The "problem" with Last Resort is a lack of BR starts, which should be always for such an open map.
You know, I see this a lot. I'm not going to go on (too much of) a thing about it because it's almost 2am and I need to get my thoughts straight, but BR starts on an open map is terrifically bad for Halo.

Part of Halo is learning the map layout and weapon layout, of course, and I think we can all agree that the AR is situational and the BR is worth using from anywhere except uncomfortably close range. This makes the BR almost a power weapon. It's not as easy to use as the laser or whatever, but it is a decent weapon that should be fought over and controlled just like you would the sniper or the shotgun. If everyone has one, that's almost entirely lost and games become entirely different. SWAT is the ultimate extension of this - it's bland. It's still fun, but it's fun in a way that really just isn't Halo.

I beg to differ, in H1 you had the pistol starts, having the most powerful weapon off start. In H2 there was SMG starts, but also Team Hardcore and in Team Slayer you had Slayer Pro and Slayer BR's in different playlists even in BTB. In H3 you have Slayer BR's and kids veto for BR's (A surefire sign the veto system isn't working since you have people vetoing based on the weapon set moreso than the actual MAP). Starting with the BR is just ideal for Halo, and is Halo in a nutshell.

Fighting for weapon control, especially SEVERAL BR's is not skill in any way, you ever been down two BR's on Plurality? Its goddamn annoying and even a shitty team can hold you back in your "base".

Starting with AR is reminiscent of SMG starts and should have been eliminated from the H2 to H3 move. Edit: Its only less annoying now because theres less of a power difference between AR and BR in H3 (Which can be annoying in its own aspect - no skill involved in lots of kills going on within each game) as opposed to the difference between SMG and BR in H2

On a map like Last Resort, and like Eazy points out at times, ground Sandbox, a Battle Rifle start (or Carbine, but that somehow isn't feasible) is needed, in my view. Say you died in Last Resort and spawned in the courtyard. Guys are surrounding you and the closest weapon is a SMG, and two towers. You're screwed. A map open such as that needs a weapon with range, otherwise I don't think BR starts are necessary. Last Resort is one of my favorite maps, but lack of updates to the map for Flag and Bomb, inadequacies for spawns, and seems lowly weighted -- just a shame.

Juices,
Team Slayer had great and tons of variety in the playlist. You had your normal Slayer with SMG starts, but also Slayer Pro (no radar, BR start), Slayer BRs and Team Rifles (only BR, Carbine, and a Sniper Rifle). I loved it. Now? Mix of AR and BR's and nothing else.

I didn't play Halo 2 too much at all. However, it's almost entirely irrelevant. Halo 3 is a different game in almost every respect. Every weapon is tweaked and the players move differently. Halo 2 philosophies do not apply to Halo 3. I can see this turning into another tired BR debate, so I'm probably going to drop this soon, but it becomes hard to argue this far after launch, and with Forge.

Players will always bend the rules of any game to make it suit them. Infection is a prime example of this. I don't know of any gamer's household that didn't have a "no Oddjobs" rule. People have been doing speedruns for forever. And people gravitate toward instant gratification. The BR is a satisfying weapon to learn to use and to kill with. It stands to reason that people want to use it more often, and the easiest way to do that is to spawn with it. Hell - recently, I've been finding the AR to be frustrating to spawn with.

And as people change their behaviours, they make maps to go with them, and - although I might be speaking a little out of turn, here - it informs Bungie when designing map layouts. The DLC maps, for the most part, are better because they're designed to fit the majority of users' playstyles. However, what the majority of users prefer is not necessarily good for a solid design.

Forged maps, of course, introduce a whole new angle on that. Anyone can make a map for any specific reason or style. Maps will lend themselves better to different types of play and different weapons. My point is squirming away from my sleep-deprived brain right now, but the short of it is that the game evolves, but the maps stay the same, and that BR starts in every case is a bad idea. Given the current weapon placement, I would probably recommend it for Avalanche as tactical flag plays are what make that map great. On Isolation, it's a terrible idea, as that map is at its best in free-for-all where you're essentially herding the other players.
