Okay, someone needs to explain this to me.

Now either this page was mocked up (which would make me a little sad) or I simply do NOT understand what the circle means (which would make me even more sad) - there are 3 times as many custom games as ranked games, yet the custom wedge is about 20% of the total and the ranked wedge is at least twice that.

Huh?
There are several elements in the screens that look like they are not quite done yet. The colors on the circle are indeed off from what they would seem to represent. This one is probably also Urk's fault.

Longshore has some areas that are similar to Headlong. To me it looks like a tighter, slightly smaller Headlong. :D

Don't compare it to Headlong, you'll just get my hopes up! I do look forward to trying it, however. As I do every map.

I can't help but note that Griffball seems to be the most popular double XP playlist (much more so than say, Team Flag). I think it says something about the relative hardcores of the current player base. I suppose that makes it somewhat soft core.

Did I mention that Longshore is awesome? Longshore is awesome.

I've never participated in a Team Flag gametype, sounds glorious! I knew of it's existance via B.net, however.

Longshore is so bland. Crates and boxes and brown everywhere. Looks like fun though. Too bad if I try to play it in BTB I'll end up getting Heavies Valhalla or some other Shishka™ garbage.

I really just want a way to play social objective gametypes with BRs without awful laggy 8v8 games.

Really dude? You get a first look at 3 awesome new maps and you still can find something to complain about? Oh internet...

It really sucks to be at work right now .... hearing tales of the vids ... I think I am developing a cough ... yep there it is :cough: :D

I know. Here's how a typical day at HaloGAF goes for me.

10 HaloGaffers: "Who's ready to play some Halosssssss????"
HaloGaffer1: "Me!"
HaloGaffer2: "Let's do it!"
HaloGaffer3: "I'm on now!"
HaloGaffer4: "Hellz Yeahhh!"
HaloGaffer5: "Getting on now!"
HaloGaffer6: "I call BR!"
Dax...........: "I call AR!"
HaloGaffer7: "I'll start the party!"
Eazy: *In his best Arnold impersonation* "Get to tha CHOPPER!!!"
HaloGaffer8: "I'm down!"
Tashi.........: "I'm going to play MLG, Scrubs"
HaloGaffer10: "Ready to start the match!"

Me (at work): F***

Oh come on. You can't be serious.
Okay, maybe not 99% (around 85%-95%, can we agree on that?). There aren't any real significant changes, but of course, depending on the way you play and what you usually play, you can say a certain change is significant while I see it as inconsequential.

Anyway with the videos, my hype for the three maps have changed:

Longshore> (though, nearly the same) Citadel >>>>>>>>>> Heretic.

Funny thing is, the aspect of Heretic I'm most looking forward to is the new skybox. It's going to be amazing.

I could care less that Firefight doesn't allow matchmaking. I'd only play it with friends anyways. What bothers me is that the game will end if one person's xbox shuts off or if they really have to leave, in the middle of a firefight game. That's the only thing that really sucks about this whole ordeal. Make sure everyone has enough time to play and that there are no storms outside that could cause a power outage. :lol

10 million copies of Halo 3 have been sold. I seriously doubt anywhere near 1% - or even 1/10 of 1% - of those buyers give a damn about the differences between Blackout and Lockout.

You can give Dax (or me, in this case) all the shit you want about not knowing what the fuck he's talking about - but the simple truth is... most people really DON'T care.

That said: Bungie tried pretty hard to reproduce Midship as closely as possible. I played a few games on it last summer, and I noticed very, very few things about it that were different from the original. I think Creamer's point was that there are going to be people who bitch, no matter WHAT - because that's what people do.
Yeah I got to hand it to Bungie for Heretic. Such awesome support for the community, even after small crowds always bitch about their previous attempts at remakes. They keep going and Heretic looks to be everything the community has wanted. Citadel and Longshore also look excellent. Map pack of forever, indeed. :D

We've got confirmation on that, right?

Biggest facepalm ever.

I'm surprised nobody's talking about this book - it looks to have some heavy hitters writing for it. I'm looking forward to it!

(Kibbles - you know I'm not supposed to talk about that stuff.)

So... you could actually care less?

Anyway, really looking forward to the new maps. I love my midship happy fun time. Longshore looks to be a pretty sweet playing map too.

Also... *rage* Why is it that Europeans are only allowed blanks in our tanks? I must have hit this twat in a banshee a good 10-15 times, usually 3-4 consecutive hits before he manages to fly off and absolutely no damage whatsoever. I am convinced that my tank has no live ammunition. >.>

Wu! How can I talk about it if I've never heard of it before?

This is day one now. Can't wait.:D

:lol Dax and his AR.

Also, Wu lets not fight... I believe Nutters post clarified what I was attempting to say (quite poorly I might add).

Regarless, Halo tonight is a must. I tried to get on last night, but after getting completely owned (GAF post.. click it, pictures and such) in the NeoGAF candy swap... I just wasn't in the mood.

The 1up videos were sweet, finally some footage of the new maps. It was a relief that David Ellis (the author and person being captured) actually knew what he was doing, i.e. he was using bumper jumper.

Bumper Jumper ftw. I hope he gets the time to put up a full Longshore game, like he was talking about.

After the first image of Longshore was released, I didn't think too much of that map. I thought it would be bad.. BUT after I watched the new videos, it totally changed my mind.

Longshore is looking to be the best of the entire Mythic Map Pack (besides Sandbox, of course). I'm definitely excited to make an Infection map out of Longshore now.

I never realized there was the option to spawn with plasma grenades in Halo 3.

There isn't actually. It's only because on Midship in Halo 2 you could start with Plasma Grenades, so I think Bungie realized that it was also needed for Heretic.

Bungie panel at PAX.

Friday, 3:30pm - 4:30pm, Serpent Theatre
Prepare to Drop
Join members of the Bungie team for an in-depth look at the soon to be released Halo 3 : ODST and discussions around the game's development. Project leads will guide you through a demo showing off the game's key features and what makes playing as an ODST different from prior Halo games. Learn how the game went from conception to completion with a small team and a very short development cycle.
Panelists Include: Joseph Staten (Creative Director, Halo 3 : ODST, Bungie), Paul Bertone (Design Director, Halo 3 : ODST, Bungie), Curtis Creamer (Bungie), Brian Jarrard (Community & PR Director, Bungie)

Right now Bumper Jumper is uncomfortable to me. That could be due to the fact that I've just switched yesterday and I'm not used to it, so I'll give it more time. Until September 7th to be exact. If I still don't like it I'll switch back to green thumb: two weeks should be enough time for me to readjust (if need be).

I was talking to the big THUG himself yesterday about control schemes, and he's a fan of the green thumb. He said he'd go bumper jumper if you could melee with the right analog stick, and I commented that he could probably make that happen since he's kind of a big deal. :D

Got mah Halo 3, rdy to own some scrubz.

This also means KibblesKapture is back online. Good stuff for those who can't get Bungie Pro :)

That sounds really cool.

I seriously cannot stress how awesome Longshore looks.
It also looks fairly Forgable. I can't really tell, of course, but I'm hoping we've got correctly sized doors to place, etc.

Do you use Default? What sensitivity? I've never changed from Default and 3 and was recently expressing an interest on exploring higher sensitivity.

Yea I play on Default. I've bounced around a ton of sensitivities. I started on 6, then moved to 10 for a long time, then 5, 4 and now back to 5.

It is unique to the particular map (also Plasma Rifle starts at one point). Waterworks was the same.

It's a shame they never did those unique things for maps in Halo 3.

New York, NY – Wednesday, August 12, 2009 – Tor Books, an imprint of Tom Doherty Associates, LLC—the largest publisher of science fiction in the world—and Microsoft are pleased to announce HALO: EVOLUTIONS, a new story collection in the New York Times bestselling Halo® series, expanding the universe created in the hugely successful Halo videogames for the Xbox 360. Three previous Halo novels published by Tor have sold over a million combined copies to date, and in 2010 Tor will publish the first in a new Halo trilogy by science fiction icon Greg Bear. HALO: EVOLUTIONS will be published in November 2009. An unabridged audiobook edition will publish simultaneously with the new novel.

HALO: EVOLUTIONS will feature a wide variety of tales set across the span of the Halo universe. Contributing brand-new original stories are New York Times bestselling Halo novelists Eric Nylund and Tobias Buckell, as well as Halo newcomer and #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Traviss. The collection will also include a number of other bestselling and award-winning writers, as well as contributions from the games writers and creators themselves, including original Halo contributor, Robt McLees of Bungie, LLC.

“There are so many interesting and exciting playgrounds that are spawning from every HALO offering,” says Eric Raab, Tor editor. “This is a great chance to watch writers have some fun with these areas and expand on some of the unexplored mythos and characters, while at the same time creating new ones as well. Think of the short story collection as a new litter of Halo stories, each excitingly unique.”

“The chance to explore corners of the Halo universe, whether obscure or popular, is something we are always excited to do, but the chance to shine light on these dark corners with the talents of these wonderful luminaries, is a pleasure indeed,” says Frank O’Connor, Franchise Development Director, 343 Industries. “The combination of fresh eyes and old hands guarantees a brilliant continuation of a Halo tradition.”

HALO: EVOLUTIONS arrives in-stores during an exciting season for the Halo franchise. Microsoft recently announced at Comic-Con International 2009 two dynamic expansions in the Halo universe: “Halo Legends,” an original anime series in cooperation with legendary anime pioneer Shinji Aramaki (Ghost in the Shell) and “Halo Waypoint,” a Halo-exclusive channel to launch with Xbox LIVE this fall. In September, the highly anticipated Halo 3: ODST will let players experience events leading up to the story told in Halo 3 from the perspective of an ODST (Orbital Drop Shock Trooper) as they search for clues behind the Covenant’s occupation of New Mombasa.

“Halo” has emerged from the videogame world as a global phenomenon. To date, more than 27 million copies of the games in the Halo franchise have been sold worldwide. “Halo 3” made entertainment history when it launched on Sept. 25, 2007, setting record sales which marked not just the biggest videogame launch, but the biggest day-one entertainment launch in history. The newest game in the franchise, “Halo Wars,” launched on March 3, 2009 and is the best-selling current generation console-based strategy game of all time. With a fully fleshed-out universe of heroes, villains and epic scenarios, the novels expand the universe to give fans a grander view of the game environments and characters they encounter.

Yea, plasma rifle and plasma nade starts on Midship were awesome. The BR was better, but having a plasma rifle meant that you could dual weild much more easily and pwn people.

Does anyone have any good tips on getting Two for One, Overkill, Killing Frenzy, Steppin' Razor, and Mongoose Mowdown in Lone Wolves? I hate Free For All, and I don't want to wait until Halloween to try to attempt them.

If I play against one more kid in a ranked game from New Zealand, I might just burn down the office.

Why, what's the big deal?

I'm from NZ and to be honest there does seem to be ALOT of us floating around Halo3, COD, Geario etc etc

I LOVE it cause it means WE are the host and you americans can lag for once! hahahahaha :)

I have never had a fully UK game so I have yet to experience this 'no lag' scenario that Americans are so accustomed to. I'm always at least 0.4 seconds behind any American in Halo. *major sad face*

What the hell?! Slayer BRs on Narrows, to Slayer on Guardian, with no veto? God dammit, I'm never going to get these stupid achievements.
