Quick note, in case some people here have been sending me FRs, let me know who you are when you send it. I've deleted several recently not knowing who they are.

Moving along... my map is finally done :D

This is my objective-based map with a twist: you are never closer than a few feet from the other team. You are always separated from them. Walls have been built in the crypt and sandbox floor to isolate the teams. You must coordinate with your team to win on the map.

Red base. There is a small sniper area in the upper right via a teleporter. Blue base is mirror image as is the rest of the map.

An example of the wall. You cannot pass through this. There is a similar one in the crypt.

Teleporter from the crypt. Each base has one. There is a shield door for the slots so you can't kill your enemies easily when they teleport.

This is a cutaway shot in Forge, there is a wall normally here to prevent walking around the floor.

The sniper box. Teleporters are to and from the sandbox floor. There are slots separating the two areas so you can fight off other snipers.
This is also a cutaway shot as there are normally double blocks on the top.

The sniper box is interesting as it is focused above the other team's area. You have a bird's eye view so it is advantageous.

So there it is. I'm hoping people like it tonight in customs. But please don't play it until I do, I want to hear suggestions and other things. I'm sure the spawns will need work; I only placed 10 for each team because there are not a lot of safe spots.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Halo 3 doesn't do a good job of accommodating players that have not purchased any of the DLC map packs. I think this was a huge oversight but it's probably tied to Halo 3's network infrastructure. There's probably very little they could or would do at this point.

This kind of statement should be the OP so new people don't come in here ranting and instead come in asking questions in the worst case scenario.

Don't know if you intended this or not, but after just going around in a custom game(by myself), I managed to "Mario Jump" through the wall to the other side(in the crypt and in the middle). Not sure if it's practical since you are probably exposed to fire, but it might be possible.

And I managed to get on top of the wall(in the crypt, and in the middle)

Sorry I can't render the films on Bungie.net, I'm out of minutes for the month
and sorry for potentially "breaking" your map, I was just checking it out :(

Ah thank you for this. No I don't want it to be like that heh.

I might elevate the ramps off the ground so the gap is smaller. And I'll add something on top of the wall to make sure you can't get on it. Thanks for this again.

No problem. It's a nice map, even though I got confused at first about how the flags worked after going to the sky bubble. :lol

Maybe you can return the favor by breaking one of my maps, if I ever get them finished. :D

Why accommodate the average joe that plays once a month? The most popular list in the game is still free to everyone, I fail to see the problem.
 
Dax, go back and check the film of the last arming on that Avalanche game. It was the single most epic fail I've ever seen a team mate inflict on his team. Epic picture post incoming. Just.....:lol

Well Blue suggested splitting into two lobbies to keep the numbers and lag. So it seems like a good idea to have you lead one and get the team duals going and another lobby with proper gametypes. Please everyone.

Yeah. It was a combination of a warthog, a trip mine, and a rocket.

The whole team goes bye bye. Amazing.

I uh, broke it again...I just barely managed to get on top of the wall in the crypt, just by tapping a small spot where I was able to skip to the top. Though, I used up my other grenade, but if someone was able to do it in one grenade, then they could get on top. But I doubt it is too much of a concern, maybe. Even though I did it in a second try. :(

And I managed to get on top of the middle wall too. Bottoms of the walls are fine, though. On Blue side, at least.

There won't be a duals room.

I don't understand the aversion to Team Duals. It's a nice break away from the AR/BR starts and it's just a fun, simple, and silly gametype.
 
If I'm going to mess around, I want fiesta-type madness - duals just limits you to weapons that are useful only in close combat.

Duals are wayyy more fun to pull out randomly in AR/BR start gametypes - just blitz someone with dual plasma rifles. Anyway, on those maps my games always devolve into nade spamming and melee fests - very little strategic play. Not my cup of tea so to speak.

Fair enough, but I've only played the gametype on maps like Guardian and Snowbound, so range is never really a problem.

Gotta disagree here. Duals are a lot more fun for me when everyone is on a level playing field. I guess that's because I feel safe using them knowing everyone else is too.

I'm not going to debate this. I'll just say that maybe you should tell that to people that purchased the game and are satisfied with the launch maps. *shrug*

When I pay full price for a game, I expect to play with the same full features others were playing when they bought the game when it was initially released.

If you're going to limit their multiplayer experience than just fucking gimp the price. That seems reasonable since Bungie is fucking gimping their online experience anyways. I said that this is going to be a scary trend when Bungle had limited their 'experiment' to a few playlists. Now look, the majority of their playlists require DLC and I won't be surprised if other greedy ass dev's start to mandate DLC requirement.

ODST is a few months away from release, thanks for making people pay for the same maps they are already going to own Bungle.

I hope I'm not speaking out of line here, but Bungie doesn't get commission from the sale of map packs. They make no extra money when a map pack is sold.

I play other games, such as COD:WaW where the game boots you back to the main menu if you don't have the maps. I don't play the game that much so I don't buy them, yet I don't go into a thread and cry about it. It's just how things work now, you're never going to get a big enough boycott to change the practice.

You're probably right. If anything they are paid a specified amount for the additional content packs they produce. From the publisher's standpoint, any kind of royalty fee system would not be an intelligent business practice.

-I don't get this either. There is not a single weapon in Halo I don't enjoy using. I do hate single weapon game modes i.e. snipers, swords and rockets.
 
There's only a handful of people on Live right now. Is anyone going to start a custom game party soon? I'll be available a little bit after 8 p.m. Eastern and will start one if no one has.

Introducing Barracks!

During the Second Battle of Earth, Rats Nest put up barriers for their barracks. Now, they are fought over. Designed for 2-12 players.

Ever since the release of the Heroic Map Pack, I've wanted to do a enclosed map on Rats Nest. Initially, the flag was located at the entrance from the Mauler tunnel, with the bases, the turret platform and the bridge being the only accessible parts of the map. After what is practically a year of on and off fixes, the map is done.

The map is designed for Capture the Flag, Team Slayer, Assault, and Oddball. Preferably with BR/AR starts. And if it does have the misfortune to have AR/Magnum only starts, I put enough BRs on the map to fill a person's wet dream. :lol

Rockets on top, Active Camo below. Rockets location might change if gameplay proves that it is too close to the edge.

Overshield on the top, where the Ghost used to be. Bubble Shield below it, but that might change. Featured: the Flamethrower on the bridge.

Yes, there's a sniper on each side. Like everything else, that might change. Though, there isn't that many places where you can dominate. Except from where the Sniper spawns, but then you can duke it out like on Narrows. Maybe.

Nothing really exciting, just Blue Team's flag, and their Plasma Rifle. On top of that, the SMGs that are side by side.

And finally, the Easter Egg. You might not be able to see it in this shot, but it's still in the shot.

The only real concerns I have with this map, is that the teleporters could be done away with, and the spawn areas and how they might be set up since I suck setting them up.

Do you have intimiate knowledge of the MSGS/Bungie/XBL Contract, a citation or are you just pulling things from thin-air?

I find it *very* difficult to believe that MSGS/XBL can render Developers mere slaves and demand work from them without pay.

Hey! I actually got to stop the other team from getting the flag very far at the end. I also captured a flag! Probably the only good part of the night that I'll have, probably. :lol

He didn't say they weren't paid what he said is that they aren't paid for each map pack that is sold.
 
Urk said in the update that we should be seeing those firefight pics, and some new ones (either of the new mp maps or from firefight missions we already saw, based off the description) in the Field Guide "soon". That was Friday. Bah!
