Shafto said:This could be interesting Reach related news I guess:
I was in Game today (UK Retailer), who had ODST Preorder signs up in the chart section. It mentioned the free Reach Beta. IN the context that ODST would include an invite to Halo: Reach, and allow you access to the Halo World.
Halo World.
Capital H. Capital W.
Tell me what this means HaloGAF!
I think it lends weight to the idea of a persistent world Multiplayer - Planetside style. This is what I hope Reach is anyway!

I would hope that it's safe to assume the SP portion of Reach will maintain these steps towards open-world. My big question, and what I assume Shafto was speculating, is how far Bungie will depart from the trilogy's MP component.GhaleonEB said:That said, I'm expecting Reach to have significant open-world elements, ala the direction the hub world in ODST is moving in. To open Halo up like that in one game and then lock it down into linear missions from the original trilogy in the next would be jarring.
I understand that. I was using his speculation as a launching point to pontificate on something that's been on my mind, which is the campaign structure.EazyB said:I would hope that it's safe to assume the SP portion of Reach will maintain these steps towards open-world. As much as I feel I want something completely different and fresh from Bungie's next MP game, I'm willing to bet it'll be much closer to style and scale of the trilogy than anything else.pet said:i wouldnt mind an mmofps mode as long as it doesnt replace original style mp
It is, but read the text, what spartan do we know had a little tussle with helljumpers. John, so think about who you could be looking at.Flipyap said:

I either want something similar to the MP in the trilogy or something completely different. Nothing halfway. It'll probally be like Battlefield.EazyB said:As much as I feel I want something completely different and fresh from Bungie's next MP game, I'm willing to bet it'll be much closer to style and scale of the trilogy than anything else.
But the thing is we actually haven't gotten a new Halo game yet (Halo Wars doesn't count). It's all been the same game; even now with ODST. Reach will be the first game that will actually feel different I'm hoping.EazyB said:It seems like every time a Halo sequel is coming people speculate it'll be a huge 64 player/mmofps but it's never that different![]()

GhaleonEB said:I think it's likely they got creative with their marketing and you shouldn't read anything into it (thus OWV's laughing). Retail would not have any kind of other information from Microsoft or Bungie at this point.

Sounds like Bungie's presence at PAX is substantially less grandiose as it was last summer. The most it'll probably be is similar to the Gears 2 setup they had last year, a stretch of about 10 monitors to stand in front of. Hopefully the Bungie folk still lounge around there but I doubt it'll be as chill as it was last year.BWU said:* San Diego Comic-Con Ill be there along with ODST Design Director, Paul Bertone, offering hands-on Firefight play in the Microsoft booth all day on Thursday, 7/23. You can find us way in the back, booth #5225. Come by, check out the game, say hello and you may even get some swag out of us. Then on Saturday, 7/25, Paul will be participating in a Xbox 360 game development panel at 1:00 PM in room 6DE. Hell be joined by a few other developers for some riveting discussion about making games for 360, moderated by world famous Major Nelson.
* Gamescon (Cologne, Germany) This massive game show is open the public and takes place from 8/20 through 8/23. A few Bungie people, dozens of stations of hands-on Firefight, German beer what could be better?
* Penny Arcade Expo (Seattle, WA) PAX is back this year, running from 9/4 through 9/6, and should be bigger and better than ever. Sadly we wont have our own booth but that doesnt mean we wont be representin. Theres a very strong chance well be hanging out in the Xbox booth and offering more hands-on ODST opportunities. In addition, members of the ODST development team will be part of a panel on Friday 9/4 from 3:30 to 4:30 where they will show off bits of the game, talk about development and field questions from the audience.
It sounds like they will, but it will be a kiosk in Microsoft's booth.Devin Olsen said:It's to bad Bungie wont have their own booth this year... :\ I thought they would have something set up for ODST firefight, similar to what they had for Assembly...
GhaleonEB said:It sounds like they will, but it will be a kiosk in Microsoft's booth.
Remember, there's some tension going on between Bungie and Microsoft right now. Bungie wants to get fans to associate Bungie's games with Bungie, so they'll stay Bungie fans when they stop making Halo games. And Microsoft wants Halo players to associate Halo with Microsoft, so they'll keep buying Halo games when Microsoft's other studios take them over. Allowing Bungie to have their own break-away booth furthers the former, not the latter.
Other possibilities: IIRC, Bungie was the only MGS studio to have their own booth last year. Maybe they just want to be consistent and have all MS-published games under the same hub. It could also just be as simple as Bungie not wanting to pay the fee for the separate floor space.
Here's hoping they can pull off a fan fest this year. (I'm guessing no, for the reason #1 above.)
Not much of an update, though the transcript of the voice message was pretty funny.Kibbles said:Well since we have a bunch of juniors now, I'd like to take this time to remind everyone I will still capture Youtube HQ style videos under my account "KibblesKapture". I could go then. No change in timezones=Win.Domino Theory said:Yeah I don't think I'm attending this year's PAX either. Although, PAX 10 is in Boston, right? That's much more farther from me than Seattle, but I've never been to the east coast so it'd be a great experience.
I think I'll walk to PAX again this year. It's basically just down the street.Dax01 said:I could go then. No change in timezones=Win.
