It's a bit crass I know, but "there are those that said this dick would never come...What have they to say now?" works better.Flipyap said:If you're not feeling so confident, there's always "There are those that said this day would never come...What have they to say now?"

There isn't enough material to speculate over constantly, but hey, we're bound to screw up and get pissy at each other at times too. Just like any forum on the internet, discussions won't always be calm and highbrow.BerserkerBarage said:Because I've seen this thread produce some very interesting conversations. Take for example when Sandbox was still unknown. This thread produced theories (which were later confirmed) about the blue grid for Forge, that Sandbox would be multi-leveled, things like that. Not only were these "theories" correct, but even before they were confirmed they were argued and supported with such evidence that even if they had turned out incorrect, I was still impressed. Unfortunately you don't get much of that on other sites and it died off on B.net quite a while ago.
However, at the same time I've seen this thread delve to some pretty low areas. The majority of the things pointed at Dax are pretty deplorable. And I understand that part of it is just merely being sardonic by this point, but really, just let some things go. I don't agree with everything Dax says, even though we share the same basic ideology on starting weapons in Halo, but I'd much rather see people agree to disagree.
I agree, it was very disappointing to lose the entire Covenant perspective Halo 2 introduced, it was a step back. Casuals be darned, I would have loved to see the Terminals brought into the storyline proper, combined with an inside perspective into the Covenant dealings.EazyB said:H3 was a complete letdown story-wise for me, but the levels are much more entertaining. I've probably played through Halo 3 a good ten times and some of the finer levels (The Covenant, Sierra 117, Floodgate) many times. Some of it has to do with the inclusion of 4 player online co-op adding much to the cooperative experience but I believe the level design is much better than 2's. It still doesn't hold a candle to CE's open levels but 2's campaign is completely forgettable in my opinion.
The Terminals were so great though, they told an amazing story if you took the time to figure it out. Yeah, Master Chief is cool and all, but I'd take Mendicant Bias over him any day after reading the terminals. That gives me some hope for the Forerunner novels Greg Bear is supposed to be writing, although I'm a bit inclined to think that maybe the Terminals connected so well with me because they were a bit understated and didn't spell everything out.Botolf said:There isn't enough material to speculate over constantly, but hey, we're bound to screw up and get pissy at each other at times too. I think the only Halo CE level that could really compete with the design of the Halo 3 open levels (Tsavo Highway, The Ark, The Covenant) would be The Silent Cartographer. Assault on the Control Room and Two Betrayals are fun levels, but they're mostly linear and they overuse beam rooms and bridges quite a bit. Silent Cartographer, on the other hand, hardly reuses much at all and features intelligent multiple path use.
Backflip right out of this thread sir.backflip10019 said:Man, talking about Halo 2 and Halo 3's story is so boring. Before entering this thread, I really didn't think that anyone cared about the story at all because it was so bland and uninteresting.
Yea, what I'm saying is that they should have been front-and-center in the story, not easter egg oddities. They would have worked great together with the other story elements, tying 343 Guilty Spark, the Ark and everything else together. One peoples' great journey was fast becoming another's, this connection was never explored in Halo 3.FilthyLies said:The Terminals were so great though, they told an amazing story if you took the time to figure it out. [bzzzzt] Sorry, but that is incorrect (backflip is sent home with a lame consolation prize).backflip10019 said:Man, talking about Halo 2 and Halo 3's story is so boring. im going to have to disagree.Plywood said:I just want to say that Halo 2's cutscenes >>>>>>>>> Halo 3's. Also no Gravemind battle was disappointing. I would have even taken a badass five minute QTE romp in the vein of God of War.
Well that's all on Bungie's part. Can they not do Boss Battles?vhfive said:im going to have to disagree.
i play halo to run around and shoot things. i'll take battles with a lot of brutes (or elites) with the odd stacked against me over a boss battle any day. i'm talking about when you're in crow's nest and you run up against the gravity hammer brute with a bunch of his cronies in a small room (you know the encounter i'm talking about). now that was more fun and i got a better sense of accomplishment than i did against either the prophet or tartar sauce in halo 2.

I was just saying that I would have taken that over nothing. Bungie has the moniez afterall.Zeouterlimits said:[IMGhttp://i32.tinypic.com/142f04n.jpg[/IMG]
Plywood, while I completely disagree on the QTEs, I do think Gravemind was piss-poorly handled in H3, and something I was very disappionted it. Alot of questionable choices story-wise in Halo 3.
im not so sure its bungie's fault. boss battles just dont really work for fps (imo). i have never had one where i thought "omg this is awesome". i mean there is only so much you can do (bullet sponges suck). halo's fun comes from jumping into a pack of covenant and demolishing them because you are a badass.Plywood said:Well that's all on Bungie's part. If you want to get into Halo 3 MM, wait until ODST, unless you want to buy all the MM DLC.Shafto said:There's tonnes of newbie Halo players - the newbie games are a lot more fun in fact!
It's not Gears or Rainbow, where you just hit a wall. H3 is still fun for beginners!

There's still quite a bit to do even without the DLC- you can play Squad Battle for your Big Team, MLG for your competitive edge, Social Slayer for the basics, and Social skirmish for Objective. Granted, you're locked out of most of the ranked stuff, but most of the population is in Social anyways.Dax01 said:If you want to get into Halo 3 MM, wait until ODST, unless you want to buy all the MM DLC.

I was just looking at it if he were looking to get the complete experience.Shafto said:I'd agree with this if it was just about buying maps - but for someone looking to play Halo 3, it's still got plenty to offer until ODST.
Squad Battle alone can be a tonne of fun.

I think it's been said somewhere before, but it did seem like bungie was trying to cater to a bit too many people at the same time.Zeouterlimits said:Plywood, while I completely disagree on the QTEs, I do think Gravemind was piss-poorly handled in H3, and something I was very disappionted it. Chipy Brady said:That's kind of the problem though. No one I know plays video games so I'm pretty much stuck playing with randoms. I only got Live recently enough as well. I did get 1943 though and I really enjoy that (I try to play as a team but it looks like not everyone takes that view of things). If Halo is as good as that for newbies, then it'll be good craic. I'll probably give it a go the weekend.
