Decided to hop back into Team Slayer (after playing zillions upon zillions of Team Snipers....it's fun but I suck so much :lol). I still believe that Stand Off is the worst map for this game. I just personally hate the vehicles so much.

Also, I still refuse to use my headset to converse with these douches. Every time there's a general on my team and I don't do exactly what he says they either start complaining really loudly or start betraying me or the team. And people STILL complain about being a "kill thief".

Wow I didn't even notice this, but apparently a spartan is drifting in space in the Halo: Reach trailer. Thanks IGN Rewind.

It sounded like Global 1 at the end to me, but whatever.

Wow, the attention to detail... I like how they elaborated on the Spartan numbering sequence for the people who have not followed the Halo universe as much. 2010 can't come soon enough!!!

Edit: Dang typos.... And I thought it was "Nobu 1" :lol

Eh, I used to love the Halo stories up until...(Halo 3 spoilers)

Sergeant Johnson, one of my favorite characters, gets killed by the most annoying character, 343 Guilty Spark.

Was anyone else a bit disappointed with that part of the game? I would be excited about ODST's story a bit more if it wasn't for that little blunder in Halo 3.
A friend of mine was glad to see Johnson's death - along with Miranda's. He considered them as being a part of the Master Chief's Shitty Friends club. I'm less against Johnson per se, though I certainly didn't shed a tear at Miranda's death.

I think the... tone of the series was hurt by Johnson's survival and prominence in Halo 2 and 3, and Miranda should have died a long time before she did. The Halo universe shouldn't feel obliged to focus on the Chief all the time, but it also shouldn't go out of its way to pervert the expected rules of mortality for secondary characters.

But you wouldn't have the beloved "War" line from Whatshertits if they killed her off when they could have...

Miranda should have been a background character in Halo 3. There was no reason to feature her so prominently. She's terrible. Johnson on the other hand has always been an asset to the series, adding some much needed flavor.

Interesting changes, Juices. I do agree with Backflip, however, that the Banshees wouldn't exactly be a thriller. A Chopper is a nice substitute for the Warthog. I had that vision at first, but since modified it to a Ghost.

I'll have to take a few Screenshots of my "Standoff 2" version in my File Share and allow you to examine my possible remedy for the map.

My version of "SnipeOff" is also pretty finished. I can't say conclusively it is, since there hasn't been any playtests on it. I think it's a better version though, and Nokyard helped out with the teleporters heading outside.

I disagree. He was an amusing parody character in the first game, but he should have died on Halo. I think it was a bit spineless to bring him back for 2 and 3 just because he was an amusing character - make new characters if the plot demands them, and don't make them superhuman just because.

There was no reason for Johnson to be with you at the start of Halo 2.
There was no reason for Johnson to come with you on the In Amber Clad.
There was no reason for Johnson to survive long enough on Delta Halo to team up with the Arbiter.
There was no reason for Johnson to survive when the Brutes captured him in Sierra-117.
Etc...

Every instance where you see Johnson being used, he could have been replaced with a new or un-named character for better efffect. The game would have so very much benefitted from having a wider cast of more believable people.

Yea fuck Johnson, shit man he really fucked up on Cortana taking down his barrier. Ya know? The level could have been much shorter but hes too much of a bitch and we had to go fix his mistakes.

If you want something done right.

Perhaps you're right, but there is a pretty serious Johnson fan club out there. Doesn't Contact Harvest feature him as the main protagonist?

A lengthier and more intelligible exposition coupled with a wider range of characters would have been ideal for Halo 2 and 3, for sure.

Basically.

Ugh, infection is so boring and terrible. All the humans do is hide in a corner or room like the bottom objective rooms in Isolation where they can't be touched and all the zombies do is die time after time. It's horrible.

Also, interview with Eric Nylund.

I don't know what your idea of fun is but being killed time after time after time by people standing in one corner not moving is not fun. Maybe that's all your brain can handle, I don't know.

Your opinion.

Anyways, I downloaded this map called "Eighty Grits" from Bungie.net's Atlas group. Whether it plays great is not-withstanding. It seems symmetrical, but he didn't lay it out that way in his Atlas submission. It looks pretty good so I thought it could be tried for some GAF customs in CTF or Neutral Bomb.

Also, here's a few quick snap shots of my Standoff 2 version, minus Laser and Warthog.

First spawn:
Center:
Red Base:
Blue Base:
Heli-pad:

I didn't grab the shots from Forge, so the spawns cannot be seen. I moved them all around basically behind coverage or behind a piece of geometry from oncoming fire from the middle. Two Battle Rifles were add to inside of the bases, Assault Rifle was moved to the original Plasma Pistol spawn, Plasma Pistol moved to old Rockets spawn, added one Carbine to behind base, and moved the Power Drainer behind bases near Mongoose and Carbine.

I thought that was fine. Fitting end for a badass such as himself, saving the Chief and all. Being the Hero. Also having the kind of odd line about Cortana:
"Don't let her go... don't ever let her go."

I see different problems with H3's story, stuff like Gravemind and his decisions. I'd consider them illogical at times, especially for a badass hivemind. That and Cortana just "getting up" and being completely fine. Rampancy and flood mind-rape all in a days work for everyone's fave AI.
There's some problems with how Bungie work the fiction to satisfy the game. As the fiction continues to grow it might happen more and more.
Reach will be an interesting test of this actually.

lol. No need to be a jerk, especially with a statement as untrue as that. Sure, sometimes the humans crowd in one spot, but what else are they suppose to do? It's their best chance at survival. Besides, it's coordination, and it happens rarely. I really can only remember one spot in which you mention that the humans do that, and it's near the sword spawn on The Pit.

Q. After Ghosts of Onyx, will we ever see what happens to ….those guys…. in … that place? (spoiler avoidance)

ERIC: Maybe. All those decisions are up to the people at Microsoft. When and if more novels come out, and if they would like me to, I’ve gone on the record as saying I’d love to continue that story line.

Come on, Microsoft! Give the go ahead! I want to see a conclusion, and he's willing to write it.

I got 2 overkills and a killtac and a rampage mowing zombies down with the turret down in one of the bases on Isolation. I got an open season on Andromeda mowing down zombies.

Killing 10 Humans in a row medal is dumb and not possible. Fuck that shit. You'd have to kill every Human in one round and none of the people who you made zombies could get any of the humans. Thats impossible fuck anyone who says it isn't.

Another really tough medal is the Unstoppable medal. You'd have to first get a game of Juggernaut in Rumble Pit (3.5%) then start as Juggernaut (around 15% chance) then you'd have to play a perfect game. This is actually more possible than killing 10 humans but still mad fucking hard.

Props to anyone who gets these medals legit.

I got 9 in a row as my best as the Juggernaut. I came soooo close to getting it.

I killed the juggernaught then proceeded to kill 9 people, game over. :lol

The game does not even give you the chance to get the medal.

Yup I got 9 earlier today, fucking the kill to become the juggernaut counts so I won the game before the last kill. So dumb.

Johnson is the only secondary character I like in the Halo universe. I'm glad they didn't just kill him off early and throw in some more random characters that I'll never remember nor care about. And there hasn't been a "tone" to Halo's stories since the first one so whoever's worry about that needs to get there head straight.

I got the unstoppable achievement legit. Used to play rumble pit a lot with my friends that weren't so good so it wasn't terribly hard.

The zombie one is practically impossible though.

I haven't read the last page or so but I'll say it anyway. Infection will probably keep popping up as a Double XP playlist because there are now specific achievements tied to that gametype. It's similar to the 7 on the 7th situation so I would be prepared to see that hopper often even if the novelty of Infection wore off over a year ago.

Also, no one is forcing you to play it.

Great update. The Johnson clip was hilarious. Also, this was masterful:

Heads Up

Staying on the Johnson tip, yesterday our forums generated a query concerning the fictional accuracy surrounding Sgt. Johnson’s lack of one particular accoutrement in Halo 3: ODST. Since I don’t know spit about squat, I managed to rope in Bungie’s keeper of the Halo Bible and guy who almost always seems to have something on his screen that will make you question your very will to live, Robt McLees. You’ve got question, he’s got answer.

Q. Wait a second! How will Johnson use VISR-mode? He doesn’t even have a helmet!

A. It’s a -blam!- video game.

Moving on.
:lol

Urk really went to town today.

slapping Johnson inside the box

meet up online with your friends for a four-man Johnson romp

please contact your friendly neighborhood game store for all of your questions or concerns regarding your Johnson

OMG JOHNSON QUOTES AWESOME.

I think he says "frakkin" XD Omg this is hilarious. "'scuse me while I whip this out!"

He sounds as mean as the scout does in TF2! Awesome.

Good update. Shishka, Ballerina outfit and webcam for Bungie Day? Trying not to put two and two together in my head...

The Johnson soundbytes were hilarious. "Sorry! I can't hear you with my bullet in your mouth." :lol :lol Can't wait for more minutes. I also preordered ODST at my local Gamestop today.

I had a few hours before work today so I decided to learn a bit more about photoshop and made my first gif. It's inspired by something Cocop and Nutter were talking about last night.

The problem is,
it was shown that Johnson was able to survive unthinkable odds and then the game turns right around and destroys him just like that.

If you set a standard for a character, keep with that character's standard. I would have agreed in that I would have had no problem Johnson dying on Halo, but the fact is he didn't and instead died by something much less likely to kill him. It turned the plot into something that was, quite frankly, laughable at best.

As far as Miranda, I didn't really care for her character at all. She was no Captain Keyes, and I think it'd be hard to even find a replacement character for him. Sometimes characters don't need replacements, they just need new and unique faces.

No, my problem goes farther than Johnson (although I find Johnson's death laughable) - I personally don't think the aliens should have had any connection to the humans. I think it would have worked much better if the Arbiter had to work with the Chief and both of them couldn't understand the other (we, being the Chief, would not be able to understand the Arbiter either and so we would have to make a decision on whether or not he is to be trusted and this would be based solely on his actions). Gravemind was a cool concept that was executed poorly.

The Halo series just never stayed up to the quality of storytelling that the original had. However, I plan to go back through the whole series and see if I can get a fresh take on the story. I've been trying really hard to like the story of the whole trilogy but I just can't do it - the books were so good that I got really invested in the Haloverse but the games didn't live up to what I was expecting (storytelling in the vain of the original Halo).
