I only visit 2 threads in GAF. Halo3 and now the ODST thread.

Hah, I used to read the ODST thread, but I got tired of the all same questions asked over and over again. Now I only read this thread. Good ole HaloGAF.

As far as games I'm looking forward to, I am very interested in KOTOR: The Old Republic
even though I hate MMOs
, Kingdom Under Fire II, Dragon Age, and maybe Mass Effect II. Other than that, no games really stand out for me. I havn't even looked to see if there are threads for these games, as I never visit the forum portal.

I didn't really like playing as the Arbitar that much. But, having spec ops grunts was pretty freaking awesome. I think that if they had spent a little more time making the Arbitar parts more robust, I would have enjoyed it more.

I think Ghaleon mentioned something about Half Life 2. I really like the game and its story is great, but I agree that telling a story completely from 1st person detracts from the potential of it. I love Half Life, but I think it could have benefitted from a cutscene or two for those epic moments.

Edit: Infection with parties is fun. But team Flag is amazing and probally my favorite.

So me and my buddy decided to play tonight after not playing for a long time. We hop on ready to play some team doubles. Says we dont have required map packs to play, so i back out to see if I have them all. I see the mythic for 800 points the only one I dont have. Go back in and we cant play any ranked nor social gametypes without the map pack. WTF? So now to even play halo 3 online, im required to pay an additional $10, on top of the game purchase and live cost.

Yep, came out just a while ago. Another map pack in a few months time, another $10 will also be required before the end of the year.

Also, online co op, with the next map pack, will be included and enhanced in the next map pack too, so you will need to spend more points for this feature too.

Before the end of the year, screenshots and saved films will also have points attached, but they will using Bungie points for them and the new video player on Bungie.net You'll have to pay $5 to trade or share any shots or videos (just $5 a year, not per video).

BTW, give Urk a PM to find out how to purchase Bungie or MS points.

We had it good for 2 year with Halo 3, but dedicated, lag free servers aren't cheap, and we get the same benefits with more.

Any gametypes? There are a few playlists in both ranked and social that don't require paid map packs.

I massively disagree with this. Cutscenes would have cheapened the epic events in the game, it was much better to be there to see them personally. The restrictions Valve works with gives their players stuff cutscenes simply can't. Involvement is one of those things, it can make a scene "connect" with a player. That sort of connection is helped along by Freeman's silence, there isn't any interjections by him to cause ripples in that connection.

Having said all that, cutscenes are very nice when they're done well. What slightly annoys me about Halo 3's was that a large amount were really... unnecessary. A cutscene can show events taking place far outside the player's own perspective, and we got a lot of that in Halo 2. With the loss of all the Covenant perspectives, we saw the Chief constantly, even when it was unneeded.

You can't tell me you wouldn't have liked to actually be sitting in that Pelican cockpit as it descended down to the Ark. It would have been really sweet.

Nope all require the dlc now, all except mlg and team snipers which I have no interest in playing. I guess back to pc fps for me, dont have to put up with paying more money anytime I want to play. It wouldn't be so bad if i could just play some unranked slayer or something, but alas.

Hey Urkster, is the new fire fight map that was shown in today's article about Johnson the infamous "SC-140" map that was discussed on the ODST podcast recently?

All require the Legendary and Mythic map packs? Unless I'm missing something, Long Wolves, Squad Battle, Social Slayer, Social Skirmish, and MLG only require Heroic (free) if anything.

Hmmm so you are right, guess i looked over it, but you should still be able to play the other and if a map comes up u dont have it should just boot you.

Nope.

Eh, I used to love the Halo stories up until...(Halo 3 spoilers)

Sergeant Johnson, one of my favorite characters, gets killed by the most annoying character, 343 Guilty Spark.

Was anyone else a bit disappointed with that part of the game? I would be excited about ODST's story a bit more if it wasn't for that little blunder in Halo 3.

Is Marty O'Donnell still afraid of black people? I know he has said in the past that he can't "figure out" and doesn't "get" hip-hop. The master composer, the physical embodiment of music itself at Bungie ignoring the most progressive genre of music in the last 30 years. Love it.

I don't "get" hip-hop either. Then again, I don't "get" much modern music anyway.

I'm a dinosaur, yay!

Johnson's not dead. He survived one ring asplosion before, he will again! ;p

Black people should stop whining about institutionalized racism and labeling by society and pull themselves up by their bootstraps.

^ This post is a re-occuring just different copynpasta.

See HaloGAF, I'm not one to rub it in but I told you DLC requirement was stupid. Oh well, who plays Halo anymore. :lol ::plays double xp weekend::

This, sadly they got the whole implementing maps into MM down pat far too late. The other maps would have been good right away but with these user created sandbox maps that are badly forged right now MM looks just so unofficial. I keep getting these shitty maps in MM.

i like rap

and also fuck you xbox support fuck you
i will not stop until they fix their website

EDIT: back on topic. i actually cant wait for matchmaking when odst comes out. i think im more excited for new maps than firefight

Bladed and I were just talking about this last night while playing. Of course Wastelands comes up in TS and we don't know the map very well so we get stomped by some scrubs with their rockets that respawn every minute and overshield that seemed like it respawned every 30 seconds. Seriously, Bungie what the fuck is that map doing in matchmaking? Oh and then let's put camo and sword right next to each other and give one team 5 or so easy kills every time that spawns. Christ that map is terrible.

Vindictive is also horseshit. The crane areas of each side are a terrible idea and even though I've won every time I've played on the map (due to my excellent BR skills and nothing else), it's really painful to play on. So, yeah, everybody submit your excellent maps to Atlas and have them rejected for some bullshit reason (and almost get banned - wtf?) and we'll get to play on these garbage maps forever.

And the worst part about it is that Bungie jacked up the rate that we play on these maps by a huge amount. It's rare that you get to play on any of the original maps. Looking at my games played last night in TS, we played Blackout, Assembly, Sandbox, High Ground, Orbital, and Sandbox in a row. Too much DLC. I just want to play BRs on the Pit.

While I'm complaining, I'll also take a stab at Sandtrap. I played a few games last night Squad Battle with Bladed and Shin and we got Sandtrap two times in a row. What the fuck is that doing in ranked matchmaking? It's obviously far too large for 6v6 and WAYYYYY too big for 5v5. If you can't come close to 100 kills on that map in the time allotted then trash the map for that playlist.

This is just sort of random - the last time I was online (Sunday), I played TS for a few hours, and it was a mix of old and new:

(in order) The Pit, Orbital, Sandbox, Construct, Orbital, Orbital, Snowbound, Snowbound, Valhalla, Sandbox, Standoff, Guardian, Standoff, Sandbox, Sandbox

There's plenty of both in the rotation - you just got unlucky (for what you were looking for). I've seen people complaining because the old maps come up too often for them.

You are correct. That would've been awesome.

I enjoy playing on it.

Spark isn't annoying, but I do want to talk about one part of the story: the aftermath.

Now, obviously all the Brute ships that participated in the journey to the Ark were destroyed, but those ships couldn't have been all that was left or remained of all the Brute ships in total. There had to have been some that were left in whatever part of the galaxy the Covenant controlled, right? And what about the Brute homeworld? The Brutes there or on the remaining ships aren't going to just not bother the Humans or the Elites. And what about the other Covenant species?

Then there's humanity. How many starships do you suppose they have left? Hopefully enough to at least put up a reasonable defense of Earth.

smh

I got bored and decided I'd attempt to fix some of the problems with Standoff. After looking it over I figured this to be completely impossible. Then all of a sudden a brief moment of sparkling clarity overcame me and I figured it out. For any TS gametype or FFA gametype all vehicles should be removed. All of them.

That ignores the fact that Standoff also appears in the Big Team playlists and Squad Battle. I asked myself what are the other problems this map presents? The main one is "oh great AR's on Standoff". I understand Bungie doesn't understand large maps need AR/BR default starts and that this is never going to happen so I started there and dug my joysticks right in.

82672996-Full.jpg

82672994-Full.jpg

Just starting up default Standoff in Forge I came across this glaring mistake. Right there in the base is a nicely placed AR. I mean that would be amazing placement of a weapon. If we didn't already SPAWN with an AR. I mean yes that extra ammo might go a long ways, but I feel a more beneficial weapon would be a BR, inside the base. Note: Before editing the map there are 0 BR's in the bases on Standoff. Seriously Bungie?

82672538-Full.jpg

82672539-Full.jpg

82672566-Full.jpg

# of BR's in base now? 3.5

82672973-Full.jpg

See this Spiker right here? Well we already HAVE an automatic weapon, sure the Spiker is an alternative weapon but is there really an incentive to pick this up? So in what will become known as the greatest edit ever in a Forged map I decided to DOUBLE the amount of Spiker weaponage at that location. This lends itself to the fact that the Spiker is a weapon that Master Chief can dual wield.
82672485-Full.jpg

BRILLIANT!

82672967-Full.jpg

All BR's are now respawn timed at 10. This ensures that when you want a long range weapon, for a map thats pretty fucking big, you'll have a long range weapon. Isn't that just fitting? Also notice the amount of spawns outside out in the open, this is where you'll spawn and get mowed down by a Warthog with no possibility of survival...bad design right there.

82672605-Full.jpg

82672586-Full.jpg

See these dishes? Fuck yea look at those! With barriers and barricades and shit. Now with spawns all over them. What will happen is when you spawn there you'll have like cover n shit! Yea so like now you won't immediately feel the need to get the hell out of that area. In fact the shielding now gives incentive to head that way when making your advance towards the other teams base. It also can add crossfire to the traditional standoff battle that takes place between both sides at rocks.

82672892-Full.jpg

Before
82672588-Full.jpg

After
The OS is just a better thing to have in the middle to fight over. Respawning at every 3 minutes be sure to pick this item up. A sure fire way to push forward. Fighting over a laser that allows one team to dominate the map with vehicles? A laser that is just too powerful on a large map without Snipers, yea thats removed.

"But how will we destroy vehicles?" you ask.

82672489-Full.jpg

Fuck yea, the missile pod. Respawning at a rate of 2 minutes, You'll surely have this ready in your base each time those nasty vehicles respawn. Be sure to use this wisely.

82672461-Full.jpg

82672700-Full.jpg

82672651-Full.jpg

New vehicles, Warthogs are mad lame.

I just found him annoying in the Library level. Ever since that level, I really couldn't stand him and then he had to do the unthinkable.

Since this was in response to my post, I felt the need to reply, but I haven't played Halo 3's singleplayer in over a year so I don't quite remember the details of the aftermath. I would discuss this with you if I had a fresh memory of the storyline (I plan on playing Halo 3's singleplayer soon just to see if I get a new take from it).
