I really liked the Halo 2 ranking system. It was actually a challenge to acheive a high rank. In H2, you barely ever saw a 50 (yay black halo thing), but in Halo 3, you see 50's in every game you play. I also liked clans/clan matches in Halo 2. It was pretty sweet. We could have a HaloGAF clan and then we could play together and have a clan rank.

My biggests let down for Halo 3 ranking was how easy it was to earn a high lvl, and the lack of awesome rank colors and super cool symbols for higher lvls.

it can be done with geo-merging

- set 2 Crates and a Send Teleporter, the Teleporter must be upside down or it will not work

Thanks a ton. I'll try this!

EDIT

Ugh, I got it to merge with the open box, but I tap it and it only stays until I move. It doesn't seem to want to drop into the ground. :\

I do miss those colors. I really liked the mid to late 30's.

The high 40's and 50, though, were kind of eh, because people cheated just to get that near their name.

At this point, the ranking system is a total non issue for me. Actually, no, besides me getting matched with people at my level or greater, it's a non issue. You could take away the numbers in MLG and I wouldn't give a shit even though I busted my ass to get that 50(and keep it). I'm happy with just getting matched with people around my skill level.

And they reset ranks what, twice for Halo 2? I wonder if resetting the ranks back to zero would fix anything for Halo 3...

Only if they modify the ranks so that resetting them means something. They have already introduced a new ranking system into the game without having to reset ranks, I am almost certain that won't have any reason for resetting ranks in future.

i was under the assumption that if you go into slayer with a new account it doesnt help you boost at all. It just places that players rank at yours until it gets higher.

The only way i see matchmaking at the high 40s without playing generals is to play with friends in the low 40s, but im pretty sure that would decrease your chance of going up when you win. idk
With a new account, you have zero games played in a particular playlist. You move up and down much more quickly than, say, if you had played 100 games in that playlist already. Because I didn't really allot that much time to Halo 3 when it first came out, and often lost games, I'm now essentially being penalized because of those losses. As Juices said, Truskill was created to come up with competitive matches. If I'm crushing people who are at my level or even higher time in and time out in almost every playlist and still not moving up, are these matches truly competitive? No, they're not. For instance, yesterday when I was winning all of those SWAT games, I didn't go negative in a single game. Throughout most of the matches, my K/D was over 2, and yet I only went up 2 ranks after winning 14 games in a row. Is the system doing me an injustice? Objectively speaking, not really. Is it doing the people that I'm playing an injustice? Yes, because I keep figuratively shitting on their faces. Trueskill is broken, and the matchmaking system in the next Halo game needs to be fixed.

And juices, sorry for quitting out on you. I'll be on a bit later tonight.

Eazy should be saying this first, but...

CHOPPERS ON SANDBOX

(Mythic maps count for the Legendary achievements.)

Mongoose on Ghost Town.

:P

People would lose their fucking minds if ranks were reset. At this point, I think a decent chunk would stop playing Halo 3.

I'd laugh like a drain at all the people that paid for lvl 50 accounts :lol

Oh man, I didn't think of that. :lol On second thought Bungie, reset the ranks hahaha

Good riddance.

And does anyone know why Cold Storage isn't featured Team Slayer?

I remember the excitement from the Bungie Day release died almost instantly.

MS marketing proven. Give away stuff for free and you get 0 interest. Charge full retail price for it and you get instant replay value!!! :lol

Holy shit. I've never seen Halo 2's 43+ rank logos before. They should have kept the 50 rank a Halo ring, IMO. Looks totally awesome.

lol except when you saw it in matchmaking because that meant you were about to get cheated against.

Now that you cant really bridge host and standby and mod the H2 system would work EVEN BETTER!

Think about that shit yo.

PS: If you had a 43+ you probably weren't legit. I loved the 50 being unobtainable gave more meaning to the rank you were instead of just attempting to reach general and calling it a day with the ranks.

i just realized the pic (#4) showing the teleporter merged with the box is the one that did not work

the hexagon shaped pad at the center of the teleporter must sticking half way out of the end wall of the box

How many hours does this stuff take to figure out? :lol

I really understand how the Bungie folk feel when they say they were surprised at how Forge was taken by the community and bent to their will. For a map feature editor, it's pretty amazing what folks can do with it.

Hmm, kind of getting your idea. This does seem a little tricky. What's your GT?

Ah, Level 37 was such an awesome thing to have in Halo 2. It actually meant something.

38+ was cheater heaven though.

lol yeah. I remember when being a 18-19 was the shit before the changed the system the first time. I also remember how excited i was to get a 28. oh good times.

But it was the chillin in the mid thirties and working my ass off to get to he purple and blue that really made me love those ranks

Nope it really was that good.

I really wouldn't know. I was playing Halo 3 online for over a year before trying Halo 2 online and I was far from impressed. Hearing about all the cheating that went on sours the thought too. I'm sure they didn't reset the ranks twice for shits and giggles.

You could be right though, maybe I just missed the boat.

that one took about half an hour - the first method had the teleporter hanging from the ceiling - it worked but looked silly

runNOKYARDrun (Forest Gump reference) - also on GhaleonEB's friends list - i will be on in a little while and can help if you want

and, just noticed this : HaloGAF OWNS Sandbox, 5 of the top 11 maps

My friends and I played customs with Joey last night. His gametypes are mad fun. Like, way more fun than matchmaking. Like, he made objective Epitaph fun. His Narrows Territories is the most fun I've ever had with a Territories game, and I have 8,000 games of Halo 3 played.

He's got Recon so Bungie must know about him. Shishka, if you do ONE THING this year put some of his gametypes and maps into matchmaking. They are too good to fade away into the ether.

Because it's a garbage, piece of shit map. Maybe they should throw more power weapons and powerups in such a tiny area. You know, like put a Sword and a few Maulers in it.

-Was called a "fucking noob" constantly in my first game by the only other guy on my team who had a mic. I tried explaining to the same guy that since we were both playing MLG, it meant we were both pro because MLG=pro. However, if I were to leave the playlist, I wouldn't be pro anymore because I wouldn't be playing MLG. He said "okay noob" but I don't think he understood what I was saying. MLG=pro, and if you're playing anything MLG, it means you're pro. Simple, right? I guess it isn't... I also asked the dude if we could be even seeing as how we were both playing MLG and that meant we were both pro but he simply said "shut-up noob." After the game, some people on the other team started complaining about host and whatnot and started called the victorious team (my team) noobs and yelled out how we sucked and everything.
-Played MLG (pro) Guardian for three games in a row. Ugh. There are like, what, four weapons to choose from? Carbine, BR, Sniper, and Mauler, right? I could find more variety from picking my nose.
-After my third game, having been abandoned by two teammates in the middle of thegame, I was told that I should "shut-up" and "can't say anything" because I sucked and I lost.
-Fourth Game
*in pre-game lobby with other players*
Me: I hope this gametype has AR starts.
Some Guy: You can't be serious, right?
Me: I'm being serious.
Some Guy: Dude, don't you know? This is MLG: there are not AR starts.
Me: Why not?
Some Guy (being all serious): Because it's... pro.
*I burst out in uncontrollable laughter: to hear someone actually say that and sound serious about it was side-splitting.*
*after I've stopped laughing*
Me: What aspect of MLG makes it pro?
Some Guy: Because guys get payed a million bucks a year to play this.
Me: ...
Then some other guy on my team jumps on "some guy" and calls him a "dumb fuckwad" for saying that players get paid a million bucks a year to play.
-After my fifth game I was told I sucked by some guy on the other team despite only going negative one. Also after the game, I received a message from one of my teammates saying, and I quote, "You fuckN suck." This guy's motto is "They call me 'Mr. Pro.'"
-Sixth game I was being yelled at for half the game for not knowing the "call-outs." I think this is the third time I've gotten Amplified.
-Seventh game was actually quite pleseant besides the fact that I had to play on Amplified for the fourth time in a row. I think there are three weapons on the map. Pro people's vocabulary must be very limited because I guess they've never heard of the word "variety."
-Eighth game on Amplified. Whole blue team quit before the game ended. Pleasant game, though.
-Ninth Game: HOLY SHIT CONSTRUCT. And there are like, five weapons: the carbine, sniper, rockets, plasma pistol and BR. MLG variety never felt so good.
- My god. The Piton my tenth game. There are like, four weapons on that map, too! Not wanting to take chances, I had previously partied up with the guys from my previous game. We lost, and got called "fucking losers" and told "we sucked" after the game.

I came for shits and giggles and that's what I got... I hate MLG.

I don't know about everyone else but Cold Storage is fucking awesome.

What's the point of including ranks like Level 40 to 50 in a game like Halo 2 if it was basically unobtainable unless you were cheating?

I can't consider a ranking system like that to be any good if no matter how good you improved or how good you were, you wouldn't still to level 50 because they were "unobtainable" unless you cheated. That's flawed, it's too rigid.

Halo 3, on the other hand, it's a bit more bearable for everyone. I'm not going to type a lengthy paragraph, but if I can dominate several generals (and to be fair, several generals have dominated me) then I can't say it's perfect either.

If Bungie makes another game with a ranking system.. I think somewhere in between Halo 2 and Halo 3 is just peachy.

The system Halo 2 did once the second breakthrough happened, it was the tops, in my view. A good player could be in the 20's and low 30's. A better player reaches 32's to mid 35-36.

I'm sure there were legitimate ranked 40+ players. Difference is here, you won't see average players (like teens) dominate these players in games, much like I happen to see quite often in Halo 3.

I really like how they kept the rank so high and difficult to achieve in Halo 2, albeit cheaters or no cheaters. Making it a sure challenge to attain a solid and accomplishing rank, pending the playlist, was something to feel good about.

You got what you were looking for. If you truly wanted to give the MLG playlist a fair chance why would you start a conversation that you know will immediately alienate you from your teammates?

The higher 50s should be reserved for pro level players IMO. Thats where they would land in H2. Minus the cheaters.

Congrats on making up a bunch of shit to try to justify your 'spergin love of boring weapons and crappy gametypes.
