Game breaker, not buying. It's like Bungie knows what we want and then does the exact opposite.

No I believe the automag pull trigger as fast as you can is the new ODST BR. I'm pumped. Sept 22nd!

Pretty much. Nobody ever said a word about wanting the old pistol back over the Battle Rifle. Nope, not a peep.

Me being a douche aside, I don't think many people are going to mind. The new mag is ridiculous.

Yea noone wants the H3 BR back anyways, weapons broke as shit.

I dunno if its been said but um I saw in the Firefight video that there was jackals and grunts and i saw a wraith, are we fighting brutes or elites for the "better" enemies?

I'm glad the BR is unavailable in ODST. The new weaponry looks just as satisfying..and dare I say, more skillful?

Q. I just checked the Field Guide and I don't see a Battle Rifle. What gives?

A. Halo 3: ODST’s campaign and Firefight modes don’t feature the Battle Rifle. I’d tell you to blame Luke, but don’t worry, once you get your hands on the automag, you’ll forget all about your precious BR. And of course the traditional Halo 3 multiplayer, which you’ll remember from earlier in our conversation, is found on the second disc packed in with Halo 3: ODST, doesn’t make a single feature change to Halo 3’s multiplayer. If you want to four-shot some scrubs, you’re only ever a disc swap away.
Fuck yeah.

AR made it though. Thank goodness.

I was wondering why GAF would be happy about the lack of BRs until I remembered that people here seriously care about and try to understand the hackneyed Halo canon. Microsoft please release an unlock BR piece of DLC on the marketplace I'll buy it. Thanks in advance.

How can you play Grifball so much? Thats insane! I'd probably GO insane :lol

Side note, I finally got back to 46 in MLG. Hard work...

LoL, I've dropped all the way from 47 back down to 41, I'm just completely terrible at this game now. :(

:lol

Something I've thought about since Halo 1... how does the pistol scope in, with no scope? =P That's one of the reasons I preferred the Battle Rifle over the pistol in early Halo 2. It could still be one handed and it had a scope for realism. However, they added 3 shot burst to the BR after the E3 demo, thus destroying all hopes and dreams.

Note: This is not a BR vs Pistol debate over ODST. I want that pimpin' pistol in ODST :D Just something that came to mind after reading about it. Oh and the SMG is hot now too. SMG > AR. FIGHT!

Just read the "no BR" section of the update.

All I have to say is: :lol :lol :lol

So awesome.

And I have a new desktop background in the form of Halo: Reach.

Edit:

It's funny you should mention just that small facet of this perspective, because I was thinking about it today. Back when Halo 1 was making its rounds, PC players were saying the game was a dumbed down sci-fi shooter and that its popularity would be short-lived. Didn't happen. When Halo 2 came out, the PC shooter fans had gone back down into their parent's basement and the new complainers were the Halo 1 fans, who wanted the pistol back among a long laundry list of other things - they definitely weren't feeling the BR, hit-scan or not because its bullets didn't even make it across most of the game's larger maps. Then there's the Halo 3's arrival, and all of a sudden Halo 2's BR is the untouchable, holy grail of Halo combat. ODST's almost here and again, the previous game seems to have held some unknown advantage against the new weapon.

Now, admittedly, I'm an unabashed H1 pistol whore. I like the idea of being able to kill the things that I shoot at when I'm playing a shooter - I'm crazy, I know. The Auto Mag, while stylistically is closer the H2 pistol, it's zoom and single-shot kills for headshots make it automatically better than the BRs and pistols of every game, save for Halo 1. This a victory in my book.

Absolutely, and I'm one of those H2 BR kids. Either way I'm really excited.

For some reason my DNS isn't connecting now. I did switch internets recently, and have Comcast. -_-

Going to try to re-connect as much if I can. If not, always tomorrow if you guys are on.

Wouldn't mind my Access map if we get 4v4 or 5v5, and maybe try CTF BRs, Slayer, KotH, or Neutral Bomb.

Even though the pistol is in ODST, it doesn't make sense not to include the BR. I mean, ODSTs used it in Halo 2. I don't really care, as the new pistol looks epic. But it couldn't hurt to have the BR in the game, could it?

Wow! This game makes me wanna fuckin throw babies down an endless flight of stairs!!!! Fuck getting matched with people living in Japan, fuck getting matched with people living in Australia!! And while you're at it, fuck having a match where 5 out of 6 people are in NY and NO ONE is full green bar. lol

/rant

But seriously, I don't know how much ranked I'm going to play at 4AM again.

And I get that Bungie can't do anything about people having shitty connections. Lol, it reminds of that podcast with Luke Timmins (right? Froman?) He said something about the game still lagging, something like, "Look, I tried really fucking hard" lol. It's not even about the rank either, I just hate losing so much.

Honestly I can't wait to fucking quit this game CoD cant come soon enough. Its so bad, I do the SAME thing every game and depending on the connection I do good or bad...so fucking dumb. FIX YOUR SHIT.

I think playing this late will usually result in us getting people from Japan or australia or some place in Europe. But with that said, the host differences in our games was fucking jaw dropping bad. And yes I do not care for rank at this point too.. I am already a 5 Star General, I just sort of hate losing because of something unrelated to my skill. If someone is better than me then so be it; but if I lose because of some connection issue then well that is just aggravating.

all the BR talk said:

from Cody Miller's post at HBO

How a game feels and how a game plays is extremely important to me, and that's what keeps me coming back. ODST has perhaps the best 'feel' of any Halo game I've played yet, in the sense that it's joyful to play, but also that the game demands my immediate action, and my actions have immediate consequences.

The pistol is back, and it is awesome. It's even better at killing covenant than the Halo 1 version. It's got this really fast rate of fire that allows you to take out a row of grunts faster than a sweep of the battle rifle if you're good, and you can pop jackals very quickly if you can aim well. Six grunts in under a second is doable.

The pace is up a bit by virtue of this weapon, and when more enemies start appearing its utility becomes very apparent. As the waves increase, it's necessary to pull off a string of mega quick headshots, not just for points, but for survival.
