Hypothetical question.
Let's say you've had a good job for five and a half years. And that your company has been doing lots of layoffs, but they have subsided and you think you have survived them. And then today your boss tells you the company is doing a "voluntary separation" program for a select handful of employees. And you are one of the employees. Take it, and you get a few months pay and benefits. Don't and there's the "possibility" that you will go anyways, but with a less generous package. You have one week to decide, and you live in the state with the second highest unemployement rate in the US (Oregon).
Oh, and you're just on your way home, and tomorrow is your 10th wedding anniversary. Now decide: pick up that anniversary gift for your wife, or don't because income might be disappearing soon?
