Yeah, that makes sense to me. If they're going to make an open world environment for campaign, why not use its non-linearity and asymmetry to their advantage and cull out segments which might serve as good competitive arenas.

I'm at a loss, however, as to what it could actually be. If I were to guess, I'd put my money on it being something which specifically leverages the unique elements of being an ODST (ie. the health, mobility and gadgetry) in a Halo game, but how that could be integrated into multiplayer is a bit of a mystery to me. Every time I try to think of how it might work, I recall existing games like Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike -- but, if there's one thing you can be fairly certain about, it's that Bungie will buck tradition and come up with something unique.

I'm also wondering what they'll call it, they have clever names for everything else so I'm assuming there will be something similar for this.

Just got done calling 4MyXbox not once but twice and I think they may have their shit figured out. Says the process will take about 2-3 weeks so there's something to look forward to.

This is my thinking as well, though I'm also at a loss for implementation. ODST's visual scanning system would naturally lend itself to a smaller, cat and mouse type of play than traditional Halo, I think. I'm still wondering if there's some out of nowhere reveal coming as well; with Halo 3 is was co-op and Forge, two things we're now used to but are still pretty crazy non-standard features.

I'm also wondering the status of vehicles in the game, and how they will be implemented. Will New Monbassa be open enough to drive around in? Or is it all sneaking through the shadows?

I can see some vehicle action in big parks.

  • New campaign, up to four player co-op
  • Full suite of Halo 3 MP, including all previously released maps, three new maps and all features (saved films, screenshots, Forge, etc.)

I'm sure there's going to be some surprises. Wouldn't be Bungie if there wasn't.

And im also sure it wont be anything we really want or expect. Just like every other Bungie surprise.

The big surprise features for Halo 3 were Forge, four-player online co-op and the campaign meta-game, all of which seem to have gone down pretty well. And that's not including the saved film and file sharing systems, or gameplay changes like the heavy weapon class and equipment, or the upcoming render to video feature on b.net.

Dunno. I can't think of any Halo 3 surprises that didn't go down well.

Aside from the removal of three plots.

Is it because you will be the first one on the list? :lol

More like because that would eliminate 90% of players. Sure HaloGAF has a good record of quits, because you guys seem to coexist in some happy universe that loves AR starts on Standoff and finishing up games where everyone on your team quits, but A LOT of people truly don't enjoy getting spawned and getting killed over and over for 10 minutes in MLG...

So you have fun with your idea

PS. SometimesImEpic, would not be first on the list. Something with #'s or an A would be.

Furthermore your dealing with cutting off peoples abilities to play online over quits, and people pay for this service, Bungie would have some angry players on their hands when they all of a sudden lose their ability to play online that they paid 50$ for a one year account for when its not written anywhere that you cant quit.

The option to quit is there because its a fucking video game, and if you aren't having fun you quit out and start again.

So take your pick for why its the dumbest idea, I'm sure you'll just go with I have lots of quits (Mostly all disconnects, AGAIN which I mention are mostly disconnects, I don't quit that often mainly only when my entire team has left already). People who do actually play with me will say I no longer leave games randomly during nights anymore if you really don't believe me.

but then again you're always right so enjoy. you have so much halo honor.

Halo

Ditto, rang them yesterday and they said the same.
Cannot wait to get back to it.

Ya but Im talking about the surprises they talk about from time to time. Not the games. Halo3 delivered for me.

But every time they hype some big changes are coming or big announcements, it turns out to be disappointing. Like this secret MP thing for ODST, im sure it'll be over hyped and nothing that i really want. Like oh lets say, a custom server list!

I'm not even sure there's "new" MP in ODST to begin with.

To this very day I'm still surprised VIP existed and is still in MM (regardless of the weighting). Another big surprise is that The Heroic and Legendary DLC playlists were more comprehensive than Mythics. Does the Social Team DLC playlist even include Mythic?

Anyways, as far as MP components in ODST, I would be very surprised if it included a remotely big versus mode. Although I think it'd be this shit if, kinda like L4D, there'd be a mode where the humans start at one point in the hub world and have to reach a destination while the opposing team spawns as random covenant (ok, a lot like L4D) and tries to stop them. Points would be awarded much like L4D for survival and distance traveled along with Halo stuff like sticks and multi-kills. What would make it even more amazing than L4D's mode is that unlike the linear campaigns in Valve's game, the players can travel however they wish within the entire hub world.

Imagine how bad ass it would be to spawn as a jackal sniper and set up an ambush with you brute jetpack and hunter buddies.

Seems like that is way beyond the scope of such an expansion as this mode a lone would warrant a $60 purchase from many but a man can dream.

Whatever the mode will be, it'll be nothing like Halo 3's as that'd just cannibalize the community. Conservatively I'd say that if ODST does have any unrevealed MP features, they're probably along the lines of survival/horde or like RS3's terrorist hunt.

Silly.Mikey said:
See, its already overhyped.
The thing is, Bungie isn't doing the hyping in many of these cases; especially not this one. The only evidence about an extra MP feature comes from an incredibly vague snippet of an old interview with one of the story writers. It's the rabid fanbase and high standards we've come to expect from Bungie that create this hype.

This and the PDA system. I'm wondering if both will see play in multiplayer and then add this:

Halo
I got high priority on my 360 last time my red-ringed. I got it sent out and received back home within 7 business days. I can't see why this isn't done consistently. I blame their inconsistent and faulty, at times, marketers.

I still haven't received my shipment label, so I'm getting ahold of them tomorrow and trying to get this shit done ASAP.

If I have 5 render minutes, this means I can render an HD video. How long can my HD video be? One minute?
Yeah, that's my understanding.

Also, these films aren't much, but I take any opportunity to show them off. If you haven't seen them already, now you have no excuse!

Best of luck to ya

Maybe you could print it off at a public library.

Public libraries charge fucking 10 cents for a page. Even my fucking University charges money for printing! I just go to the Grad lounge and whore their free printing :p

Since my 360 is broken and my render points are going to waste, if anyone has any particularly awesome vids but doesn't have the render to video feature; I'll be more than happy to upload the videos for you.

Win Win Just being good... nothing special... triple kill.. double kill.. with a shotgun on Rat's Nest.

Saving Self Saving Self Induced from a mauler

Awesome suicide Not that awesome.. but I kill myself trying to kill a guy when a power drainer explodes and kills me

Betrayed Niterider2004 betrays me... one of a many betrayals... but I lost all of the clips... so it's a fresh start... I had a better betrayal from a long time ago... I got that clip from Storm30's fileshare.. but he doesn't have that anymore :(

Not asking you to do all of the clips.. but you can pick one.. doesn't matter to me.

Actually, can anyone confirm that if you render a video in standard definition.. but let's say, you want to render it in HD later, is that possible?

Merg, you and I were absolutely devastating yesterday in that game of Squad Battle that we played on Rat's Nest.

I was really close to a Running Riot, but the other team somehow managed to pull the flag out the back of the base when nobody but me was there. Lame.

Yeah, I was trying to kill the flag carrier but warthog and another guy were focusing their fire on me.

The "Win Win" clip is from that game.

Hah, that game was awesome. I was like 5 feet behind in the man cannon and Niterider comes swooping in and delivers death. That was great. I'll try and remember to re-upload it for you.

Would it be safe to assume that Halo 3: ODST won't have any weird issues installing to the HDD?
That'd be great, but no one has spoken about it yet that I'm aware of. At this point, I'd hold off on any assumptions.

After taking in some of the awesome GAF's done on Sandbox, I have a question for the forgers out there... Have any of you considered the possibility of getting a group of three or four talented people together, coming up with some design schematics for a large-scale map on the ground floor of Sandbox (w/lasers blocked) and just making it happen?

I know that the whole geo-merging bit is somewhat tedious, especially on that scale, but I wonder if it would be easier with a few like-minded people separating the workload into individual jurisdictions across the map, but with a consistent design concept. Rather than people working on a pair of ornate and gargantuan structures, they could work on a dozen smaller and practical ones which work within large scale/heavy vehicle combat flow.

I'm thinking its improbable for reasons I haven't considered or possibly just too time-consuming, but I was just curious what everyone's take on that is.

Ugh, Team Oddball in the Multi Team playlist just doesn't work. It's painfully frustrating every time you play it and it's just no fun whatsoever. Remove it, Dungle.

Ugh.

Edit: Oh, what do you know? Another complaint from me. Why THE FUCK are there Banshees in matchmaking (Sandtrap CTF in Squad Battle)? It makes the entire match completely one-sided and just fucking terrible.

the problem with that is the size of the ground floor.
when you block the lasers the amount of space you have is ridiculous (i think its the size of the skybox) a map wouldn't work because of the amount of space you have to move around in.

as for tag teaming a map i know people do that on forgehub but i'm not sure about the practicality of it

So I hoped onto my roommate's 360 to upload some old files so that I could render them.

Went ahead and rendered this vid for Merg

Here's a 2 min video of an epic comeback we had on Standoff bomb (AR starts). Warning: terrible filming

Here's a snippet of some of my choppering during the game I went 31-6 with 26 chopper kills.

Exterm on Narrows. Lotta assisted kills.
