Yeah, that makes sense to me. If they're going to make an open world environment for campaign, why not use its non-linearity and asymmetry to their advantage and cull out segments which might serve as good competitive arenas.GhaleonEB said:What we know:

I'm at a loss, however, as to what it could actually be. If I were to guess, I'd put my money on it being something which specifically leverages the unique elements of being an ODST (ie. the health, mobility and gadgetry) in a Halo game, but how that could be integrated into multiplayer is a bit of a mystery to me. Every time I try to think of how it might work, I recall existing games like Rainbow Six and Counter-Strike -- but, if there's one thing you can be fairly certain about, it's that Bungie will buck tradition and come up with something unique.
I'm also wondering what they'll call it, they have clever names for everything else so I'm assuming there will be something similar for this.
Is it because you will be the first one on the list? :lolxxjuicesxx said:This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Can't believe I missed this earlier.
This is my thinking as well, though I'm also at a loss for implementation. ODST's visual scanning system would naturally lend itself to a smaller, cat and mouse type of play than traditional Halo, I think. I'm still wondering if there's some out of nowhere reveal coming as well; with Halo 3 is was co-op and Forge, two things we're now used to but are still pretty crazy non-standard features.Mr Vociferous said:Yeah, that makes sense to me. I can see some vehicle action in big parks.GhaleonEB said:I'm also wondering the status of vehicles in the game, and how they will be implemented. Will New Monbassa be open enough to drive around in? Or is it all sneaking through the shadows?

I'm sure there's going to be some surprises. Wouldn't be Bungie if there wasn't.
- New campaign, up to four player co-op
- Full suite of Halo 3 MP, including all previously released maps, three new maps and all features (saved films, screenshots, Forge, etc.)
- Some other kind of MP functionality. Current speculation is that the campaign environments - perhaps the hub world - could be used.

The big surprise features for Halo 3 were Forge, four-player online co-op and the campaign meta-game, all of which seem to have gone down pretty well. And that's not including the saved film and file sharing systems, or gameplay changes like the heavy weapon class and equipment, or the upcoming render to video feature on b.net.Silly.Mikey said:And im also sure it wont be anything we really want or expect. Just like every other Bungie surprise.

Halo
Silly.Mikey said:Ya but Im talking about the surprises they talk about from time to time. Not the games. Halo3 delivered for me.
But every time they hype some big changes are coming or big announcements, it turns out to be disappointing. Like this secret MP thing for ODST, im sure it'll be over hyped and nothing that i really want. Like oh lets say, a custom server list!
Merguson said:I'm not even sure there's "new" MP in ODST to begin with.
To this very day I'm still surprised VIP existed and is still in MM (regardless of the weighting). Another big surprise is that The Heroic and Legendary DLC playlists were more comprehensive than Mythics. Does the Social Team DLC playlist even include Mythic?GhaleonEB said:The big surprise features for Halo 3 were Forge, four-player online co-op and the campaign meta-game, all of which seem to have gone down pretty well. Dunno. I can't think of any Halo 3 surprises that didn't go down well.
Aside from the removal of three plots.
The thing is, Bungie isn't doing the hyping in many of these cases; especially not this one. The only evidence about an extra MP feature comes from an incredibly vague snippet of an old interview with one of the story writers. It's the rabid fanbase and high standards we've come to expect from Bungie that create this hype.Silly.Mikey said:See, its already overhyped.
This and the PDA system. I'm wondering if both will see play in multiplayer and then add this:GhaleonEB said:This is my thinking as well, though I'm also at a loss for implementation. I got high priority on my 360 last time my red-ringed. I got it sent out and received back home within 7 business days. I can't see why this isn't done consistently. You give those public libraries 5 cents dude and soon they will be asking for 7 cents. Fight the good fight!!!KevinRo said:Public libraries charge fucking 10 cents for a page. Even my fucking University charges money for printing! I just go to the Grad lounge and whore their free printing![]()

I was really close to a Running Riot, but the other team somehow managed to pull the flag out the back of the base when nobody but me was there. Lame.

the problem with that is the size of the ground floor.Mr Vociferous said:That'd be great, but no one has spoken about it yet that I'm aware of. At this point, I'd hold off on any assumptions.
After taking in some of the awesome GAF's done on Sandbox, I have a question for the forgers out there... Have any of you considered the possibility of getting a group of three or four talented people together, coming up with some design schematics for a large-scale map on the ground floor of Sandbox (w/lasers blocked) and just making it happen?
I know that the whole geo-merging bit is somewhat tedious, especially on that scale, but I wonder if it would be easier with a few like-minded people separating the workload into individual jurisdictions across the map, but with a consistent design concept. Rather than people working on a pair of ornate and gargantuan structures, they could work on a dozen smaller and practical ones which work within large scale/heavy vehicle combat flow.
I'm thinking its improbable for reasons I haven't considered or possibly just too time-consuming, but I was just curious what everyone's take on that is.
