The Official Halo 3 Thread

All of you people in this thread are locked on for termination. If any of you say anything negative about any other game, assholes will look at your post history and find that you only post in the Halo thread more than any other thread, which will then get ridiculed and made fun of before they mass request a ban. The Halo Hate on GAF is amazing.

Too bad really, they should see what a proper FPS is made of.

Besides Eazy, and Dirt were both in the middle of the active Hive. (main reason i did not even bother posting in that thread)

well when you put it like that, it may as well read.

So back to Halo 3. Anyone have a sweet ghaleon picture story?
Not a sweet one, but it's one I had on archive.

Neutral Assault, GAF Customs, Entrenched

We've just had a failed arming attempt. Someone - can't remember who - is cowering in the corner hoarding the bomb over my corpse while the rest of my team gets mopped up.

But I have a plan. The plan is to get into the Warthog and drive back over. That'll show'em.

(I still see the face.)

Hi guyz.

They blew me up right after. But I count the plan as a raging success.

I'm liking the new maps so far. I got my extermination achievement on team slayer on Orbital, first time on the map, so thats good :D .

Nice job, dude on the Extermination achievement. :) And Team Slayer, of all hard gametypes to get it on.

Actually, I got it pretty easily. We were low base, they were high base. We all ran to the top middle (I followed, lol) as thats where rockets are. I grabbed a set of stickies and a BR on the way. When I got there, my teammates were dead. I chunked both frags and weakened the 2 guys there. Then 1 shot them with the BR for a double kill. Along comes number three charging the rescue, stuck, dead, triple. Then the last guy shows up, and I drop a sticky beside a box and he walks right by as it explodes. Then, 1 BR shot, overkill, extermination, and achievement. About the luckiest I've been in Halo3 in a long time. :lol

So I went back to read the Halo 3: ODST "Everything We Know" article from IGN that came out a while back, and I don't know how I missed this part:

First of all, while Halo 3: Recon did originate with the goal of building a 3 to 5 hour campaign experience, I can safely say that as is always the case with Bungie, the team is continuing to put more and more into it and the final product will end up being some order of magnitude more than the initial design.

Knowing Bungie, I wouldn't be surprised if we get blown away in terms of the initial length of the game. At least, I hope.

Its going to be 60 dollars. Go ahead and make peace with it now.
If shadowrun was 60 dollars, this will be 60 dollars.

I went back to the source of the quote and found another tidbit that I'd forgotten: http://nikon.bungie.org/bwu/index.html?item=204

Paul Bertone, design director, was quoted as saying that part of the design process involved finding a story that would fit within a "3 to 5 hour expansion pack." There are a few points to make here to provide more context and allay some concerns people seem to be having over their expectations for the scope of the game. First of all, while Halo 3: Recon did originate with the goal of building a 3 to 5 hour campaign experience, I can safely say that as is always the case with Bungie, the team is continuing to put more and more into it and the final product will end up being some order of magnitude more than the initial design. Game Informer also touches on the new structure to the campaign experience and how there are basically two separate components to the campaign. The initial play time targets were focused on one of those components. And lastly, there are still plenty of things we're not talking about with Recon that will further enhance and add to the experience, play time, and replayability of the final package.
Now, at this point we knew there would be extra MP maps included with the game. And we knew the Halo 3 feature set of saved films, four-player co-op, etc would be included. Placing that in the later context of Staten's other comment about there being more to MP than Bungie is talking about right now, it's clear something is up.

Two maps from Atlas have been approved for the May update.

Those being Punishment by DEATHPIMP72 and Utah Mambo by Cosmic Rick (alexhughson).

My map, Neosho, was tested for the update and rejected. D:

Not too bad really considering that was the first map I have ever attempted to build. Now I just have to make it better.

Yup.

Bladed just submitted it a few days ago (on the 17th), so I'm assuming Shishka didn't have time to playtest it for the May update.

Edit: The 2 that made it in were both originally posted well over a month ago.

Watch it be Horde mode.

Yeah, no. ODST horde? The idea itself is appalling.

It's not that appalling if you think about how a major theme of the game is being more vulnerable and trying to survive. Name it Survival mode and it's an easy way to superficially increase the game's length. I never suggested it was a good idea, it just seems to be the trend to add that feature these days.

Ah, I didn't realize that was a GAF entry.

It wasn't bad, truth be told. The spawns where players were facing their own base were the primary annoyance, but I'd say the biggest issue were the teleporters. Similar to spawning facing a wall or the abyss, teleporting into facing the wall or the abyss is very disorienting. I would recommend rebuilding the teleporter areas such that the teleporters are facing into the map instead of out of it. Further, consider replacing the teleporters with one-way versions. Either Blood Gulch style where you can teleport from a base to the middle, or the reverse where you teleport from the middle to a base.

The Forging on Utah Mambo was excellent, and I liked the idea of multiple structures to take control of on the way to the main base. I didn't love how it played, but it will be nice to have a one-sided map in the mix. I didn't see what playlist it would be included in over at Atlas, though. BTB would be nice.

Makes me want to get Entrenched submitted even more.

Yeah, we tried it with the one way teleporters out of the base a few times. Never even thought of doing the opposite.

I'll tweak it sometime. It won't be the last time you see it.

Regarding your map, did you ever think about making an additional entrance (symmetrical) to each base on the bottom where they face each other?

This, I found it extremely annoying when I fell down there to have to climb my way back up or go on the outskirts.

I could agree with this. It would have to be tested after though...But still Ghals map was my favorite from the other night.
