Sure thing, dude!

Back on topic, I had an interesting thought the other day. I don't really post much anymore because I believe that if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. I pop in here and there with compliments now. Maybe one compliant.

But there are a lot of negative dudes around these parts (well, GAF in general). I can't help but wonder if Juices has inspired, or better yet, provoked some of these dudes to join the anti-Bungie/Shishka cause. Its really ridiculous around here sometimes.

I don't really remember anyone being like Juices until Juices showed up.

griftball is fantastic.

I was getting my ass beat but at one point I got like 5 dudes in a row with the gravity hammers.

felt good.

Scoring was tuff tho

More like people who actually play Halo complain because the playlists have remained stagnant for a year now. Half the people in this thread are level 15s with 600 games played who just like to circlejerk day after day. As time goes on and less and less is done with the playlists, or the changes that are made are nonsensical trash obviously created by someone who doesn't play Halo (Shishka) then it becomes more and more frustrating for those of us who play frequently.

Halo 3 has so much potential but it is continually held back by one former Bungie.net moderator who spends his days yelling at Forge communities. I mean you could take just about anyone here, have them play Orbital for 15 minutes and they would realize all the equipment and nade spamming isn't fun. Somehow these major flaws are ignored by Shishka who instead makes these wanton changes like reducing BR starts on Standoff month after month.

I'd just like to once again point out that these "circlejerking" people don't exist. That they are figments of the imaginations of those, like spermatic cord, juices, and yourself, who are often assholes. All the people I play with feel the same way about the stagnant state of Halo 3 MM yet the difference is they aren't ignorant enough to jump on an internet message board and begin to personally attack someone.

I can't think of one person, besides Dax maybe, that if you asked right now they'd say MM is where it should be. If I'm somehow mistaken and these people do exist, please point out who they are. But I think it's safe to say that, like with every other time I point out these people don't exist, that you won't be able to.

i think that at the core of their curse filled ramblings are good points.

we have a great game on our hands, but matchmaking has become stale and the fact that the most popular game on xbox live doesnt get at least occasional matchmaking updates that have substance is ridiculous.

the fact that they post the same thing whenever they come into the thread (shishka doesn't play halo and he sucks) put them on my ignore list.
a couple of weeks ago pretty much everyone was talking about changes they would make in matchmaking (most of it centering around community generated content). it was all thought out and presented in a way that shishka would actually read it. I mean we all have an idea of changes we would make to matchmaking but if you want the person in charge of it to read it then saying that he should be fired and that he doesn't play halo is not very likely to get your opinions heard if anything it will get you on his ignore list. i not saying that you should praise shishka/bungie in every post (or any for that matter) but make your argument and leave out the personal attacks

Because Shishka honestly doesn't listen to the part of the Halo 3 community that actually give a shit about the game. It seems that Bungie as a whole is too focused on wrangling new players than keeping existing ones.

And that's the issue. Why ramble on forever about a point that was made in the first couple of sentences?
no offense to our wall of text contributors
Why carry on the negativity and bring the rest of the thread down with it? Constructive criticism is vastly different from the complaints and juvenile attacks we've seen here as of late.

They came first for the BRs,
and I did not speak up because I was a BK.

Then they came for Lockout,
and I did not speak up because remakes are awesome.

Then they came for the map control,
and I did not speak up because I like random spawns.

Then they came for the skill,
and I did not speak up because I had none.

Then they came for the smooth textures,
and I did not speak up because I was Ray Charles.

And then..... they came for me..... and there were no Ogres left to speak up.

Stale? I don't get it. You complain about the lack of matchmaking updates, yet Bungie is consistantly refreshing the playlists and tweaking things. You may not agree on the whole with some of the changes, there maybe also changes you feel should be implemented, but these issues do not change the fact that the playlists are looked after and given attention.

I'll give you one example. Heavies. That gametype has little to no fans around these parts, yet the population on the whole seems to enjoy it. Bungie are aware that most folks enjoy it but a vocal minority aren't too pleased. If they didn't give a crap, they would let the majority rule, leave it be untouched. However Shishka has revealed that he is working on some alteration with the Heavy map/s. Bungie cares enough to throw a lifeline with heavies, but they are taking a considered approach, they don't want to upset the majority that do enjoy it, so they won't rush in a few changes just to shut up the vocal minority. That doesn't mean they don't care.

I'm pretty sure Shishka is taking a considered approach to many of the so called "big issues" some folks have with matchmaking. He has access to more data, he knows what players like or dislike. Thankfully, he is also smart enough not to pander to a few folks on some internet message boards that want their specific changes above other players wants.

One of the biggest criticisms has been the lack of forged map variants in MM, since the release of Mythic, actually it could be said it started before then, Shishka has been making people more aware of the reasons behind this. He's pushed ATLAS to get people submitting their variants and more variants have gone into MM in the past while than ever before.

I can understand where some of the criticism comes from and also personal disapproval over some decisions, but you can't fairly just say Bungie/Shishka is doing nothing.

Eazy, I played BerBer Creek last night with some friends--despite being a little cramped compared to the original, it was a lot of fun. I didn't think Beaver Creek was a map that could be recreated sufficiently in Forge, but I was wrong! We all really enjoyed it. Are you still working on it, or is it totally finished? It's a shame the crypt wasn't just a liiiitle bit bigger to accommodate it.

Tell me more about the current matchmaking situation having not played Halo since the beginning of February.

Nobody knew a new matchmaking update went up yesterday.

While I understand what you're saying, it shouldn't have taken as long as it has to fix Heavies. Play it once and you'll immediately see what's innately wrong with it: too many lasers, Gauss Hogs which are nearly impossible to take down on maps like Standoff where 3/4 of the spawns are out in the open, just too much anti-vehicle weapons and not enough actual vehicles. I think some of the people here are peeved that it has taken this long when we've been complaining about it for literally months, since it's conception. Sure, Shishka might be working on a fix right now, but really what has taken him so long to do so? The whole situation surrounding creating and modifying playlists doesn't seem all that difficult (just create and test alterations of maps) and personally, I don't understand why it takes so damn long to complete.

While we're on the topic, another thing that I just can't seem to comprehend is why the amount of playlists is such a big deal. Does Bungie have like a limit to the amount of playlists that they can have at a time? Why not just create a handful more playlists that people have been asking for and keep them in permanently? Is it all about server space or something? It just doesn't seem logical to me. Someone fill me in.

kylej, do you do anything aside from complain about the playlist manager?

Seriously, every single post. Go moan elsewhere, just because you're on Neogaf doesn't mean Bungie employees are going to give a crap.

That doesn't mean it didn't go up. It did, along with the changes it brought.

Remember one thing dude, we are in the minority on the heavies issue. True, most of us on here hops onto a heavies game and we come back with a list of similar issues we are unhappy with, but most people playing those games don't have the same issues we have. as the lasers piss us off, the majority may like that particular aspect. We just don't know. Shishka, I'm sure, has a better insight into this, which is why I'm willing to consider that changing it isn't as easy as we think. True, he could just pop in a new variant, less lasers and all of us on here would be happy and celebrating, but what if most of the players didn't like it and decided not to join that hopper anymore? I don't think anyone wants to see a hopper's population fall.

There's no certainty that if people leave one hopper they would join another. a good example would be the MLG hopper with folks that consistently stay exclusively in that playlist. What do you think would happen if they introduced a change in that playlist that most players did not like for the sake of pleasing a minority? Players would just not log on anymore (at least until it was fixed) and the population would fall, which leads to a worse experience for everyone. I'm not saying the possible situations are the same, but you get the jist.

Playlists juggle what the people online play. More playlists mean the players are spread more thinly. A couple extra playlists could be costly to smaller playlists. It's the reason why there aren't playlists for every gametype, it would just spread the player numbers more thinly, diminishing the experience in all playlists.

I think April's "MM update" is complete bullshit and it doesn't make a touch of sense why there aren't proper DLC playlists when Sandbox has 7 variants so the MMP is more flexible than both the Heroic and Legendary packs. Is this the part where I start personally attacking people?

Yeah, but when you look at the stellar post-release support that competing games like CoD4 is getting you can't help but ask yourself, "why not us Bungie? Why can't you update your game as frequently as them? Get raped BK."

I'm glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, it the crypt is significantly smaller than BC so a lot of sacrifices had to be made.

I think I'm done with the map unless anything is wrong with it. I'm still taking suggestions on how to improve it if necessary.

I really hope the default MM Sandbox gets replaced by a custom version sometime in the near future (or at least supplemented with a few custom versions). The original just feels... bland.

Has CoD4 be updated more frequently than Halo? I was under the impression there has only been 1 map pack released but I don't follow CoD at all.

He doesn't attack Shishka in every post, but he does complain in every post.

@ Eazy: Matchmaking isn't at where I think it should be; there are a couple of changes I would like to see. For example, the return of the trip mine on Valhalla! Overall, though, it is satisfactory.

perfect example of stale:

I have not been able to play a single game of squad battle, going in alone or team in the past two months easy.

I cant even play my favorite playlist anymore and its been 2 months. im quite unsatisfied.

IDEA!!!!!

How come we never see ranked playlists like team objective become the double xp weekend.
Talk about an easy way to help the population of team objective once in a while.

One of halo 3s strongest pros for me is the sheer joy from being able to just have fun with other people with fun games. Rocketrace was one of those games and now there is almost no chance to see it anymore save from the rare double xp weekend.

How bout make the right variant of zombies, i mean the fun version, put it as a weekend playlist with no xp just to try it out. No one is going anywhere, why is bungie so scared to implement and experiment with different things with THE WHOLE COMMUNITY instead of "play=-testers"

Its been almost 2 years since the game came out, and we have more mlg map variants then user created maps that can be used across the board. i find that absurd.

Question to all who hate the current Heavies gametypes:

Have you tried playing your own variation of Heavies with 8v8 with your added/removed weapons/vehicles? If so, how did that go? Did the removal of the Gaus hog fix the gametype? Did the removal of lasers lead to more vehicle movement?

CrazedArabMan said:
If only the tripmine could still stick to vehicles.
Did Bungie ever give a reason for why they changed the tripmine? I thought it was actually somewhat useful in the beta. Now I never even want to pick up the damn thing. It's completely worthless now.

I don't believe so, all I can remember is our giant discussion in this forum topic about it, but that was a while ago and I don't think any Bungie employees responded as to why it was changed.

interesting idea i might toy with some heavy variants for either this sat or next sat customs.

OT
everyone should broaden their horizons and watch the champions league where man u will lose and arsenal will win

I loved that you could stick it to a hog, fill a hog with people, realize it was stuck there and the only option was to drive slowly around so as not to set it off.

It was. And that's one of the reasons it's gone. But I loved it.

Me too. I remember accidentally recreating that one scene from a vidoc where the guy dies and gets splattered, but his trip mine goes off too. :lol :lol :lol the greatest!

Just thinking, wouldn't be interesting to have Bungie sanctioned challenges, maybe over a weekend, similar to valentines day stuff, whereupon folks are rewarded for particular weapon/equipment kills across, say a weekend? I'm sure we'd see some good stuff.

It'd be a good excuse to throw up some map variants, say, like today's flavour, the tripmine on Valhalla. I'm sure they could come up with some newer or better ideas.

I'm watching Man U right now. I'm hoping it gets to be as crazy as the Liverpool-Bayern Munich game.

Now it's under powered and shitty. I didn't really see it as over powered before. It was glowing, easily visible, and made a lot of noise.
