I am so incredibly horrible at Grifball.. I cannot kill anyone for the life of me with that hammer. I think I got more kills with the skull in some games, than I did with the hammer.. :(

The Hammer is extremely inconsistent over Live. I either go plus 20 or minus 20. It seems very host dependent.

It's all about learning how to juke with the sword.

Not a great deal of fanfare over the arrival of these maps on Marketplace. Not seen any news reports on gaming sites. Forums are dead regarding Halo 3 everywhere.

The thing that annoyed me about the diorama ads was that it had nothing to do with anything. When Master Chief armed his grenade? What fucking grenade?

Just checked out a coagulation remake. It's on the middle level, and the creator blocked off the towers so they can't shoot at you. Didn't realize how big the middle level is when you have access to the entire area. Also there was a boarding action remake we tried, and it looked awesome. It had three levels to it on each side.

I'm sure it will sell a lot with the ads on NXE. I think people have seen so much of these maps these past few months that many feel they're old right now. I almost don't even care anymore because I've seen so much of them. They impressions have been pretty mixed too. If I had the points right now I would bother getting them.

Yeah, it's pretty much sky bubble-sized, just without the ceiling of death. Someone here has a template map with the lasers blocked - I can't remember who, but I'll throw it up on my FS if you can't find it.

I'm one of the elite who doesn't own the maps. Not sure when I'll download them though.

My friend who is an avid Halo player just got the maps this morning (he doesn't like RTSs). We've been playing all morning.

It wasn't his grenade. It belonged to the Brute who thought he had the demon. But the Master Chief is a pretty cool guy who doesn't afraid of anything.

Yeah, but what I mean is that there was supposedly this giant battle with the Chief and a huge army that culminated in the Brute Chieftain holding his body up as a trophy, and Chief blowing him to hell. And yet from Halo 1 to 3 we see Chief from stasis to stasis with no ambiguous breaks. When the hell did this happen?

I've not read the books - did it happen before CE? If so, it seems a weird way to advertise Halo 3. If not, then what the fuck.

Disappointment over not seeing that battle is so 9/26/07. Just an ad.

As a mere plebeian who just now got the Mythic maps, but lurks this thread a bit, could someone kindly link to the post with all the GAF made Sandbox maps?

that's very odd. mine only has a team slayer option.
hopefully soon a lonewolves and objective will show up.
What are you talking about? There is a playlist called "HaloWarsMythic" that contains team objective and slayer variants.

It's supposed to be emblematic - not just of Chief, but of humanity as a whole. Supposed to show the struggle of the individual against overwhelming odds as a symbol of humanity's heroism in the face of a far greater foe.

Humanity is a pretty cool guy.

Can't wait to finally get the Mythic maps. Hopefully they'll become relevant in the Fall. w00t

I wouldn't get my hopes up. It's been 9 months and Cold Storage still isn't relevant. :(

Cold Storage + Multi-Team = Win

I wonder who is most excited today? Bungie, seeing their hard work finally going up for general release or Microsoft sales forecasters?

If Mythic does half as good as Legendary, which we were told was still selling thousands per week just a while back, I'm pretty sure whom it is.

Believe will go down as one of the greatest video game advertisement campaigns of all time. Eventually someone will come along and do one better, but this one did it first (arguably influenced by the impact of Gears of War's serious/somber Mad World spot).
It will forever be a foot-mark on marketing videogames. Those ads made the game feel larger then itself, and hit a tone that the games weren't even able to achieve.

I'm secretly hoping that the release of ODST in the Fall changes things somehow...

You could even say the ad was very misleading.

The Madworld Gears ad, as you mentioned, captured a great feeling of scale, very sombre. Perhaps too, in a way, it was slightly misleading. The Believe ad, showing, in pretty detail, a scene that never existed? Hinting towards a massive ground confrontation?

It overshot the mark. I know of a few folks that were disappointed with the final game asking question about cut content and whatnot.

I know I was hoping for something similar to what that ad showed. It's still a brilliant ad though. Easily one of the best game ads of all time.

Not gonna lie, I wept the first time I saw those plastic figurines stretched out across a table.

A suggestion for the next ad campaign: Kronos Quartet. The Requiem for a Dream song slays me every time I hear it.

I'm gonna admit the adds were pretty cool.

But, I also thought the adds were excess and a waste of money. I honestly could tell you that the average person watching that video would be like 'wtf'. I would've targeted new audiences instead of trying to appease their fans through bombardment.

Why appease your core fans when you could easily do that through some of that viral crap( does the Flash website and that NYC stunt ring a bell?) you had going on? Everyone knew the core fans were going to buy the game the question is how could they draw in new ones. Those adds did nothing to do that. The only thing they did was make your die-hard fans get a hard on and remind your non-die hard fans that they have to wait 2 months for the game to come out.

If you subtract those negatives though I think the sum of its parts equal that of other great video game adds.

I do wish the game had some more drama/emotion like those ads, or at least an epic open world style city fight. But that is why we are getting ODST. :D

Question about the new ranking:

I see a lot of people with White General logo's beside their name, but when you go into their service record, they are only a major or something similar.

How does that work? Can you no longer change your ranking in your service record since they changed the ranking...or how does it work now?

I'm getting close to 45 with Lone Wolves which will give me Brigadiere, and I don't want to get screwed :(

You just get enough experience in the playlist to become a general. It doesn't matter what your highest skill level is.

Call it a fake general, they have the experience in the playlist to be one, but there skill level isn't high enough.

So I can still get the REAL General when my level is 50 and I have the EXP?

The white "logo" is the amount of experience in that particular playlist.

For example, back when the DLC FFA playlist was up I was a General in that playlist. I had accumulated 500+ experience in that list. My overall rank was a Brigadier Grade 3.

Each playlist you start at 0 exp. When you win you get a xp point added to your overall EXP as well as EXP in that list.

With the new ranking system, it's basically there to see how good someone is in a particular playlist.

So when you reach 45 in Lone Wolves, you will still have Brig listed in your service record.

Yes.

With Xbox LIVE Gold and Halo 3, you can now:

* Play and chat with your friends in an Xbox LIVE party and Video Chat.

* Gain access to exclusive game features only with Xbox LIVE Gold, such as additional multiplayer map packs.

* Create your own devious multiplayer maps using ‘Forge’ and share them across Xbox LIVE with friends.

Microsoft's spam mail really does a good job of selling the new content. =(
All of this could be done the day NXE launched.

Just found out there's a Film of Mage v2 gameplay on Bungie Favourites. Only thing is its an old version with crappy killball spawns and the guy playing doesn't do a good job of making the map look fun :lol

Oh well, its better than nothing i guess :/

Hmm, it might since it means the Arcade kids can get in on all of the DLC action. I'd love to see Bungie finally utilize the maps across matchmaking.

Suggestion/request: when editing/updating the GAF map list, please don't do so in a block quote. That makes it impossible for me (or anyone else) to quote and then roll it forward. For the OP, I grab the list every few days and park it in there. I can't do that for the last few updates, so I'll have to manually paste the changes in. Because I'm such a lazy bastard, I'd rather do it the easy way. :)

BTW, I'm going to retire Sandstorm tonight. Going back to it, I still really like the design, but the top level is embarrassingly chunky. I've learned a few tips for making things better, but my first pass at ironing out even a few blocks was just too time consuming, and it's chunky enough that I'd rather pull it.

The list in the OP is a tad outdated. So updated it with fixed links will just make it confusing when it comes to addressing problems with the actual list. Again, PMing me or just posting the change in the thread would be easier. Bladed, I'll go ahead and fix your link now (Edit: Umm, it seems fine to me.).

Can't wait to see the maps of those who haven't been able to own the Mythic maps now that they've hit XBLMP.

I'm really surprised at how few news sites have mentioned that the general public can get the Halo 3 Mythic Maps. Probably because the press already has 'em.
