My take on the Halo 3 marketing campaign:

Starry Night > All.

But on the "Believe" end, I can honestly say that I dug them and I think they deserve the lauding they're receiving. Did they accurately portray the game's tone and story to the tee? No, and I remember that when they were launched Frank and other folks said - repeated actually - that these pieces weren't canonical in nature, so I took them for what they were, emotional tethers to draw people toward the concept of a hero and how it worked within the trilogy's meta-narrative - much like the concept of the Spartans, both historically and in Halo.

Hell, my dad even noticed them and thought they were clever, knowing next to nothing about the games themselves or about the Master Chief.

Any changes from the one we were playing on last week?

"There are those who said this day would never come. What are they to say now?"

This was the quote that was read as I walked across the stage in my high school's gymnasium to receive my diploma. I pick em well.

haha I would imagine it would be hot has hell sitting in a gym all day wearing home made spartan armor instead of a graduation gown :P

Needs more single spikers like Epitaph.

:lol

A single spiker really does puzzle me.
There never seems to be any logical reason to pick one up, ever. Yet sometimes I do.
I remember in the beta when dual spikers were murderous. At least then, you'd pick one up to go get the other.

It performs a weak Scoot combo. Not totally useless. And mixing it with a Mauler feels really stupid/awesome.

Would any of you guys possibly have a complete overhead view of Colossus?

I've tried looking, but can't seem to find any good images for the map.

I'd say the new maps brought some folks out. Over 60k in the Mythic playlist when I was on ealier.

gg Luke, Urk, Sketch. Thanks for going easy on us. :p

Halo 3 matchmaking acting up for anyone? Live seems to be sluggish and nonresponsive
I'm having problems with Bungie.net right now. Awhile ago it quit displaying how many friends I had online. So I'm assuming so.

Surprised it did it tonight and not last night.

This will be the third map in a week I've sketched out, budgeted, done some rough designing out in Forge and then killed because I can't get blocks to say put next to each other when I actually start building it. I've done this corner a few times now, and it they blocks won't stay put.

From what I can tell, the "Block, Double" doesn't like being next to the "Block, Huge", and non-default objects don't play well with default objects. I didn't run into these issues on my last map, Entrenched, because I didn't try to line up blocks in multiple rows or mix types next to each other.

I know Bungie said there's no further updates planned for Halo 3, but this really needs a patch. It undermines a lot of the functionality in Sandbox. At the least, I'd love to hear an explanation for the problem and some tips to work around it. I have a lot of ideas for Sandbox maps, but I keep scuttling them because they require constructed flat surfaces and I have yet to make even one of them stay flat.

I don't know why but I think I'm going to start a new, BTB map this weekend. I should've learned my lesson but for some reason I feel compelled to complete my set with a surface map.

Ghaleon, do you interlock? Can get kind of crappy at times, since you have to pace your spots and what you plan to do, but it generally helps. Putting objects together but placed incorrectly can look ugly on Sandbox.

One thing I really liked about Foundry's objects is the box looked pretty good forged together. The steps I miss, too.

Got my maps, donged the heck out of some GK (good kids) on orbital, they wanted us to believe they were going for some "achievements" but only seemed to try to stick us. Totally owned them, they mad, they called us "bad kids" cawg

I haven't tried locking them together, though I would run out of resources in my current design if I tried to space them evenly, with one block overlap. As it, it takes a few hours to line up long rows of objects because I use a guide block to make sure everything lines up just right. I'll test interlocking and see if it helps. But I don't think I have the patience to lock 70+ blocks together....

...though I did just go back and try one last time to make that corner flat. 30 minutes and about a dozen attempts later, I can't do it. I tried deleting and placing new blocks, tried placing them together extra gently, tried having different blocks spawn in after I had the ones next to them placed...nada. Not one single pair of blocks formed a surface flat enough; I popped into the air every time, and these are just placed flat on the ground of the basin.

This may well be a skill, and I just don't have the skills. But it really feels like something is broken here.

In my experience, interlocking doesn't seem to help. The whole bump thing seems really hit or miss. I get it all the time, while a few people on my friends list have never seen it in their maps.

first, make sure the blocks are placed with the same side down

next, check to see if they are placed on sand piles - if so, turn off the higher of the 2 blocks and start a new round - with the higher block temporarily hidden place a gold column (or 3) on top of the lower block so that the higher block spawns slightly inside of the columns when it comes back - when the block reappears tap it once, it should get pushed into the sand and drop down to the other block's level - always save right before you do the tap - before you remove the gold columns do a save-n-quit to be sure the blocks remain in position after you return - it also helps if you frame the block you are moving with gold columns to keep it from squirming out of position

Yeah, it was crazy how many people were on last night. I think there was something like 401,000 when I was on, and I remember thinking how crazy that was for a Thursday night.

Urk's too cool to play with the old crew anymore though :(

There were over 16,000 people playing the Mythic playlist yesterday morning around 9 or 10 EDT. That is absolutely insane for a Thursday morning. The playlist struggled to see over a 1,000 most mornings it seems.
