I'd say the new maps brought some folks out. Over 60k in the Mythic playlist when I was on ealier.

gg Luke, Urk, Sketch. Thanks for going easy on us. :p
It was pretty -- how can I put this? -- overwhelming to see that before Wednesday, the playlist never got above 6,000 people, then on Thursday, there were 25,000-38,000 people.

Got my maps, donged the heck out of some GK (good kids) on orbital, they wanted us to believe they were going for some "achievements" but only seemed to try to stick us. Totally owned them, they mad, they called us "bad kids" cawg
They were probably going for the "from the grave" achievement. Doesn't change the fact that you beat them up good, though.

Since when?

Also, since many people have probably just recently picked up the Mythic maps and many more will do so as they begin their weekend, I'mma bump the map list.

Oh, I see now Bladed, I was confused earlier because they're both labeled v2.1 so I thought the link was up to date. I'll fix that and remove Ghals map now.

Wait, are the new maps available on the marketplace now?! Sorry if I missed that somewhere.
Yeah, they were released yesterday.

Ghaleon, didn't you have a Mythic map thread a while back? You may want to bump it or just make a new thread so everyone knows.

Awesome news! So what's the general consensus about them? I'm sure I'll download them regardless, but was wondering what everyone thought of them.

Assembly and Sandbox are premium, but orbital seems to break down into a big throwing grenades around corners fight in slayer game types.

Step 1:

NOKYARD said:
first, make sure the blocks are placed with the same side down

next, check to see if they are placed on sand piles - if so, turn off the higher of the 2 blocks and start a new round - with the higher block temporarily hidden place a gold column (or 3) on top of the lower block so that the higher block spawns slightly inside of the columns when it comes back - when the block reappears tap it once, it should get pushed into the sand and drop down to the other block's level - always save right before you do the tap - before you remove the gold columns do a save-n-quit to be sure the blocks remain in position after you return - it also helps if you frame the block you are moving with gold columns to keep it from squirming out of position

Step 2 repeated 70x:
GhaleonEB said:
But I don't think I have the patience to lock 70+ blocks together...

:lol

Good call on the blocks being the same side down NOKYARD. I think that may have been the cause of one of the issues I had with my map as well where I laid down 2 opposing sides next to each other.

The general consensus is very positive. Many think it's the best map pack yet (though if it weren't for sandbox I'd say the Legendary pack is comparable).

My opinion:
Assembly - a great addition as there aren't any good arena maps for Halo 3. A little too cluttered for my taste but definitely something new and refreshing.

Sandbox - Default setup is passable but the real sell here is the forging features. And unlike Foundry variants, which only a few, mostly mediocre ones found their way into matchmaking, Bungie already has 6 other map variants made by them waiting (for whoever wants to actually put decent DLC playlists up). Also take a look at some of the things us GAFers were able to create over the month.

Orbital - Absolute garbage. It looks amazing, but the level design is unlike anything seem before. Think of it as Isolation's retarded aborted fetus.

Overall:
You'll be happy you purchased it.

totally agree with this

completely agree with assembly and sandbox but come on orbital really isn't that bad. It's not the best map but i don't think it's one of the worst either (epitaph, isolation, and snowbound). I think wider halls and two lifts to go from low to high (one on both sides) would drastically improve this map but i do love it for swat

my Skybubble Grifball map has been released (with video)

please feel free to use the (more or less) smooth floor as a base for your creations, although it does use most of the Block Huge and Block Doubles and is extremely close to the kill volume

So how are the Mythic Maps? Any general feedback for someone who's considering getting back into H3 and buying them?
Assembly - great small/mid symmetrical arena map
Orbital - confusing yet linear smallish map. Think longest doubled over a few times. Fun for BR fights and SWAT. Gorgeous. Eazy's favorite.
Sandbox: awesome Forge map, but Forge has some issues. Still, if you like to build out maps, it's worth the price of admission alone.

They're awesome and just about all the regular posters in this thread have 'em. ;)

Sky Grifball looks like its a lot of fun. It'll see some action this weekend. Curious, how did you handle the ball respawn time since it's in the air?

Awesome video as well.
Adam Pisani (LBCountry) of Achievement Hunter made that amazing video - i thought he was just going to encode some game play footage but he went all awesome and made a complete introduction video - i will have to ask him where he found that stunning acoustic guitar track when he returns from his skiing trip
FourDoor said:

changed it to 10 second respawn with no other changes (except some of the clips in the video were using a low-g game variant)

It's unfathomable to me the amount of love Assembly gets. I absolutely hate it. It's easily the worst map in Halo 3. I have yet to have a fun moment on it let alone a fun game. It's atrocious.

I like it, although I kind of wish a Rocket wasn't on the map. At least it if is, put it in a place that isn't so heavily covered and a piece of defensive equipment below (Bubble Shield). I would have rather it be in place of the Regen, and the Regen be placed below that structure. (at least with a Regen below, you can still kill the person on the Regen with BR fire and grenades).

Awesome! I've been waiting for a grifball court up in the sky since I first downloaded the maps.

Also, I'm going to sneak my map into the map list since I think its to the point where I shouldn't have to do any more tweaking on it.

Am I the only one here who hates assembly, I just don't find it fun, I know it is supposed to be an arena style but I just think it plays badly, sight lines suck, the one way glass is kinda retarded. I hate not knowing if there is a guy camping on the other side of the glass or not and he can see you but you can't see him at all. Rockets also should not be on the map. Maybe I need to play it more or something but overall, its my least favorite, and even BR starts on it doesn't make it worth my while to play it.

The other 2 are great, except the Rockets on Sandbox seem to spawn to quick, even though they are at 90 second respawn I believe. Orbital is also a blast for swat games too and looks amazing.

Narrows is a blast. Assembly is torture every time I play it.

Butane, thanks for providing links and setting up your post to fit the existing format but I can't copy it unless the info is outside of quotes. So simply PMing me the info or posting it by itself is the best way to go. I've added your map as well as Nokyard's grifball map to the list. I also put the grifball high map under tools so that people may use it as flooring. The drawback though is that most of the default objects have probably been deleted as well as spawns and other objective things. People may want to use the grifball map as an example of how it's done best and just replicate that themselves using something like Voc's skybox tool.

yea, narrows is pretty boring. i dont know why there are so many symmetrical or opposed-base maps in Halo 3, especially on disc. what happened to the cool flexible maps like ivory tower and ascension and lockout (at least they corrected the last one). too many halo 3 maps are about running from your base to the other guy's base

the worst one to me is construct, i never have fun on that shit. if they decided to use man cannons instead of teleporters in this game to make things less campy and random, then what is the point of putting those man cannons into tubes?

snowbound is the next shittiest. isolation is boring because its base vs base again but i dont know why it gets so much hate. its like snowbound only without the horrible basement and you actually have some cover on the surface

epilogue is ok too, but again its made purely for ffa. why couldnt it be as flexible as the halo 2 maps i mentioend above?

Are the mythic maps in social/ranked team slayer yet? I have yet to come across one...(yes I have the pack)

Here's what's slated for the April MM update as seen in the 4/3/09 BWU:

April Matchmaking Update

For those wondering what the upcoming April Matchmaking Changelist looks like, here's the scoop from Shishka:

General
• Default Orbital updated to address hiding spots and issue with players killing themselves when they touch the ceiling in the lower base
• Default Sandbox updated to address issue with Rocket Launchers spawning with different timing

Ranked
Team Doubles (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)
• All objective gametypes set to skip after veto
• Added Assembly
• Added Sandbox variants “Cubed,” “Plurality,” “Tundra,” “Vessel”

Team Objective
• Team Flag on Smashed removed

Social
Rumble Pit (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)
• Added Assembly (default), Sandbox (default)
• Added Sandbox variant “Cubed”
• Added infection gametype “Save One Bullet”
• Added infection variants “Dismemberment” (Assembly), “Andromeda” (Orbital), and “Spooky House” (Sandbox)
• Removed Hammerzeit

Hardcore
Team Swat (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)
• Added SWATssembly, SWArbital, Tundra SWAT

MLG
• Updated to v6 map variants

Team Snipers
• Grenades removed from Team Snipers gametype

Double EXP Weekends for April (In Order)
• Team Flag
• Grifball
• Team Melee (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)
• Living Dead (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)
• Fiesta (Mythic Map Pack added but not required)

7 on the 7th
Avalanche (for the last time, I promise)

Footnote
When you see a hopper with Mythic appearing as “not required,” expect that to mean that Mythic will be required the following month. For Double EXP weekends, this means that the next time they are used, they will require the Mythic Map Pack.

Team Mythic isn't going anywhere in April. You'll still be able to play all Mythic, all the time under its tweaked title, Mythic DLC, for the remainder of the month. From May onward, we'll be looking to integrate the Mythic maps into Matchmaking in a more permanent sense as noted above, with more and more Playlists soon requiring the Mythic Map Pack.

So yeah, if you're hoping to play the Mythic maps outside of Team Mythic, you've gotta wait a few more months for any sort of decent DLC integration.

Opps, didn't even realize I left the quote brackets in there.

Since we have such a talented group of forgers here, I'm asking for HaloGAF's help in fixing a spawn issue with my map that I am having. For some unknown reason to me, the red team in every CTF game I have played has spawned player #4 on top of the base as opposed to inside the base next to the starting spawn. Blue team does not have this issue and the spawn point layout is identical to my knowledge. From reading the spawn documents and threads out there
since Shishka has yet to publish his howto
I read that the host of the game spawns first in the starting spawn. Then the surrounding spawn points turn into a starting spawn area for the map. This is why there is only one starting spawn for each team. So I followed that rule and checked out some of the default maps and came up with my starting spawns inside the base. I tried moving the spawn points on the red side closer but it doesn't appear to have fixed my issue. Pics to illustrate:

Spawn point issue with red base on ctf games:
AirStream24.jpg

Red base CTF Spawn points:
AirStream25.jpg

AirStream26.jpg

Red base outer spawn points:
AirStream27.jpg

How do I fix the 4th member spawning up on top of the base? Do I have to move the spawn points inside the bases closer together? Or do I have to remove the spawn point on top of the base since it's just above the starting spawn point? Or do I cheat and add 4 starting points inside the base? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Not trying to be mean, but you actually think people are going to play that map? Changing its name isn't going to even matter. The actual map needs to be changed.

Names are important, and he is talking about a name, not the map's play or layout. Quit prodding.

When I look at a name like "Age of Empire" I think to myself, "Holey moley, what a poopy name, I'm never gunna try this ever."

But when I see something to the effect of "The Map Formally Known as Age of Empires" I can't help but think, "Hot diggity, now this is something I can see myself playing. I'mma boggy on over to Bnet and download it. It's a good day to be alive."
