I remember a joblisting for Microsoft's internal Halo team (Spawnpoint Studios?) looking for someone with experience in the Crytek and Unreal engines. Now that Crytek 3 has been announced, maybe the next internal Halo game will use CryEngine3, and perhaps even may be a show-off title at GDC? It does seem a bit early since ODST isn't even out yet, but Halo: Chronicles has been announced at X06 and we have seen nothing of it yet. /Rampant Speculation
Don't hype it up so early!

I am alive, no pics no proof you may say? Well I have pics, and said pics are juicy.

I would audibly woot in real life if this were true.

HOPE, man. It was Obama's campaign slogo and now it's mine.
In all seriousness, GDC will suck and E3 will probably be lackluster on anything big. =)

Nah, I was borrowing my friend's Xbox in CT. Now I'm back in NY and Xboxless for the next couple weeks :/

Your box hasn't come back in yet? 0_O

Mine only took about a week and a half....

Hmm...damn my xbox falling over and making me miss customs. I blame location.

Oh, and lol @ Deadpool. That's some homage right there.

That's cool. What program are you using?

I re-created the M6D in Pro-E but gave up trying to animate a bullet through it's bore.

*edit*

k, i looked at your pictures and your models are fucking amazing.

It's still currently in transit. It's been about 2 weeks so far. Only thing is that I'm up at school and won't have time to go home to pick it up until Easter. Fucking MS said that they couldn't ship it to my school b/c I have a Box # address (I called 3 separate times with 3 separate Indian people on the other end and they all gave me the same story). Fucking stupid considering my fucking friend had his Xbox delivered directly to the same school using his Box number address. Seriously, fuck MS.

3dsmax, and zbrush to make sure my subdivision is sound at high levels, and to check for pinching for accurately. Once I finish the model It'll be out of max and all zbrush for the little details and texturing. Then once I have that all set I will take it into Maxwell Studios, to render it with unbiased to life accuracy. Then when I have all of my passes done, take it into Photoshop for post-edits, and then posting it online.

Edit: haha saw your edit, thank you very much!

holy fuck at the details in your pictures.

Like, I can re-create the model to the best of my accuracy in 3d but I never had the impulse to add textures to it. how hard would it to use 3dsmax if the only 3d modeling programs i've ever used is Pro-E and SolidWorks? Also, how hard is it to add/create textures in zbrush if i'm a novice at Photoshop at best?

You're lying. The 3DSmax I'm using in my Scientific and Technical Visualization class in school is nowhere near that good. Or maybe I just don't know how to use it that well. :lol

Fantastic job, though. Even if I still haven't seen pictures of some space battles from you (yet).

I dunno, considering this is a model of his firebomb in 3dsmax I am assuming it isn't that difficult to create 3d models in it.

I've created and animated an engine in pro-e, so just creating a 3d model of something isn't difficult at all just. Really it's only time consuming and alot of thought would have to be put in the design process. What I want to know is how to create the awesome textures he did. I never got into detailing and photoshop, sadly I went the route of programming and designing databases when I was in high school :/

3dsmax is what I started with, and I have branched from lightwave, maya, xsi, and mudbox, it still manages to be my favorite. Honestly once you understand the UI, it is extremely easy to use and the rest just depends on personal skill as a modeler. Making textures in zbrush was very hard for me at first, but fortunately the software comes with a lot of tutorials and once I got the hang of it, it became very natural to me as if literally painting on the details with a real brush. Zbrush is much easier for texturing than photoshop, you know exactly where the details are going on the model and it allows you to be more creative in what you do.

Personally no matter what I model, I always come back to doing Halo things. The universe and design in it always inspires me and always presents the biggest challenges.

edit: I shit you not, its modeled in max. I model using editable poly and subdivision methods. I invite you to start modeling something, especially in the halo universe, in which case you can post what your working on and I'll give you pointers. I'll show you wireframes and screen caps tomorrow =)

double edit: Here is a screen cap http://i41.tinypic.com/24lqxqt.jpg

Do want.
Edit: yeah, I just don't know how to use the software.

wtf at those wireframes.

I don't know how 3dsmax works but the only time i have ever seen wireframes is for stress and heat levels never for the position in an xyz coordinate. what, do those lines become contorted when you extrude the object??

fuck, there is so much cool stuff to just waste time on and do but i'm soo bogged down by school work. i have a fuckin midterm on wednesday and i totally blew it off... like i just found out about it 2 minutes ago wtf!!! :'( not to mention that i have homework due tommorow, a fuckin post-lab and pre-lab report due tuesday and a fuckin anthropology report due on thursday. MAN FML!!!!

You obviously haven't explored deep enough into the program, I am finally getting the hang of it and I can do a lot more with it than what I originally could.

*cough Work In Progress *cough (I know its not Halo related, but I'm happy that I'm learning the program more)

Thanks. I'd deleted the wrong iteration of my map by mistake, and REALLY wanted it back. It was in there. Thank god.

Man Ghaleon, you really like to torture yourself with that map! It looks like it came out fairly well though. How did it play during customs?

IIRC, didn't Bungie say that there were 3 really big easter eggs in Halo 2 and that only two of them had been found? Or was that Halo 3?
i found an Easter Egg on my second play-through of Sacred Icon - someone left a "i love you (girl's name, maybe Heather?)" message in reflective type in a small room near one of the Enforcer battles - i still don't know how i triggered it and we were never able to get back in there in while recording as there is an invisi-wall blocking the entrance - i sketched out the odd shape of the room and modders verified the layout, but they saw no message
Merguson said:
I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few easter eggs left in Halo 3. I liked the Canadian dollar buried in the ice on the Snowbound map. It reminds me of the story of when Canada won the gold in 2002 (in Ice Hockey).. there was a loonie buried in the ice for good luck.
although it turned out to be good luck for both the men's and women's hockey teams, the Loonie was buried for the benefit of the ref because the logo on the ice left no marking for the center-ice face off

It just takes practice, trust me once you understand the UI and basic rules its just exploring possibilities and technique.

Its all about pulling vertices, pulling out exposed edges, and welding. Then placing edge loops so when I subdivide the edges closer together become "magnetic" and tighter. Creating rounded sharp, yet subtle realistic curves.

I feel your pain, its why I can't work as much as I would like to. =(

Good work on the sniper, can you give me some close up wireframes of the trigger and magazine regions? I see some pinching and I could probably help.

Let me get an updated shot of the sniper, since then, I've learned about the real time lighting and clay render and stuff like that and how to tidy up the model, I'll get an updated pic when I'm done with class and a wireframe.

For all the time spent on this game M$ charges the consumers $60 for it.

Now looking at how M$ charges consumers $10 bucks for 3 maps, that comes out to $3.3 bucks per map. Applying that to the 11 maps that shipped with halo3, that means the 11 individual maps are worth $36.3 dollars and the rest of the game is worth $23.7 dollars.

I think this DLC ass rapeage is getting out of hand, kinda like the xenotropic virus like flood in halo3. What do you guys think, are the 11 maps worth more than the single player mode?

I think for the hours of fun (I think I have fun playing this game...sometimes I'm not so sure) we get the moneys well spent. Besides didn't you get the maps for free?

We should be complaining about the playlists!! not the money. Focus!

Redid the starting spawns on my map so they are not so blindingly bad (it was late), and re-upped it to file share. Should anyone test it, please use the new version.

I walked through your map last night and noticed that one of the little ramps that leads up to the tunnels on the upper level was missing. Nice layout with the base. I really like how they came out.

He's banned again? What for this time? :(

Prolly asking for more pronz.

As for the DLC....yeah, it sucks, but people vote with their wallets. I haven't bought too many games on XBL or such, but if I really want one, I'm probably gonna pay for it.....or get it for free, like SFIIHD :P
