I have to apologize for my last post a few pages back. I let my emotions get the best of me (2 Long Islands didn't help either). Some personal shit hit the fan earlier and I was on tilt. Needless to say, Bungie made my day/evening/now morning. The maps are great. Can't wait to play with you guys. I ran around Sandbox and Orbital earlier with Bluebur. I had some friends show up (at my house) and they were running around in them too. Orbital is def going to take some getting used to. Assembly ... straight butter, Sandbox .... some awesome stuff is sure to be birthed from it.

I can't help you there, but if someone had Halo for PC, perhaps getting a big combined screeny would be pretty simple.

I would also be open to varients. If someone made a BA-esque map, and there was a platform in the middle (so you can jump of the topmost floor on one side, land on the platform, and then jump to the bottom most on the other) I think that would be cool.
 
For the sake of furthering our understanding of the Sky Bubble's size, let's get into specifics.

Avalanche is a big map.

I put a Territory point in one base.



I stood on the opposite side of the map, backed against the cliff-side.



Let's check our distance.



You'll need to click the hi-res to be able to read it for yourself, but the distance reads: 314.9m


Alright, let's do Sandbox's Sky Bubble.

The Territory point, at the edge of the Sky Bubble.



Myself, at the other end of the Bubble.



And our distance is...?



353.3m


And so we have from one end of Avalanche to the other, a distance of 314.9 meters.
And then from one end of the Sky Bubble to the other, a distance of 353.3 meters.

Guys, why wont my legendary maps transfer from my other account? I bought some points from america on holiday a while ago to buy the maps and it worked successfully for a while (by buying the maps on an american account and they appeared on my normal one). Has this trick been stopped for the NXE? I want to get back into Halo, but if I cant even play the maps I have bought then I may just sell it

Should still work. Do you still have the American Account on your 360 and connected to the Net?

I've bought a few XBLA games with an American Gamertag that I then play on my normal one.
 
As far as I can tell you can no longer merge scenery together... In forge mode I couldn't get objects to not spawn at the start (the method used to merge objects). If I set the object to not respawn at start it would anyways but I wouldn't be able to interact with it as the monitor yet they're still physically there (can't put objects through them and can stand on them). If merging is no longer possible then that's fucking beyond lame and cripples what would otherwise be Sandbox's ridiculous potential.

I hope I'm wrong.

Edit: Turns out I was, kinda wrong. You can't set the objects placed on any of the Mythic maps to spawn after the start of the round, thus you can't do any merging with those objects. New objects placed on the map can have delayed spawns and used to merge though.
 
Call me stupid (I would) but how exactly do you "merge" objects in forge and can the merging be witnessed during the actual creation of the map? Obviously if they have taken it away from Sandbox it won't be of great concern to me as I intend on doing the bulk of map design there but it's still useful to know in case Foundry ever rears its head again.

Also, damn the sky level is huge. Crazy Banshee and Hornet Dogfights!

I would have thought with the stupid amount of free codes given to certain people here poor Dax would have be given a bone. =(

Did you get them too? I still haven't gotten anything, and with Sai-Kun getting them (given that he was going to buy the Halo Wars LE just like me) I thought I would be getting them as well. The update said come codes will be given out next week, but the longer it takes, the more I feel my chances dwindle.

I'm surprised how many people are getting codes for the maps. I guess I didn't complain enough about MS. Maybe I'll just wait for ODST to drop.
 
Does anyone know how to get screenshots that are on your HDD to upload to bungie.net? I took the pictures offline when XBL was having issues, and the images never uploaded after connecting later. It'd be annoying to retake them since they're from a long campaign session.

Sky bubble is so awesomely huge. Bigger than avalanche, and 100% open. I'm really glad we're only waiting "weeks" instead of months. I don't know if I could wait longer. :lol

As I said before, if you had all the parts of Sandtrap together, it's easily the biggest Halo map.
 
Question is: are there enough objects available to take advantage of the huge spanse of Sandbox? I would love to see giant BTB maps constructed, but I doubt that there are enough objects in-game to take advantage of the space.

In 5 weeks I'm expecting to play on Hang 'em High, Ascension, and Headlong. So get to work. :D

I don't believe that's what's at work here. Bungie has always done things like this for their fans, regardless of the context. In my opinion, no other developer can even touch them when it comes to community support and involvement -- which is one of the reasons you see so many dedicated Halo fans here, one of the reasons this thread is so huge and one of the reasons you see so many people pulling for Bungie when marketing decisions spin the community sideways.

So much thanks to Brian, Luke and Eric for their work here. I seriously doubt I'd be as invested in Halo as I am right now, if they weren't as invested in Halo fans as they have been for the last seven years.

Also, I played like shit last night. I got sleep afterward so... never again. Orbital is growing on me at a decent pace. I think I'm going to pull together something for people who are still a bit confused by it. I've had a blast on all of the maps so far and I think, just considering the untapped potential Sandbox has (which is considerable), this may well be the best map pack ever -- for all Halo games.
 
Took my ODST screenshots last night, tagged 'em, and that would be around the time I realized that I am really horrible at taking screenshots. :lol

Side note: I'm a little disturbed at the bits of senses of entitlement I've been seeing over the last few pages...complaining is not exactly an attractive way to go about it.

Agree with you 5000$. It's the main reason why Bungie is my favorite developer even.

All I wish is that more mapmakers received codes... that way there could actually be really awesome maps when the rest of us get them.

How is that picture shit supposed to work? kinda like a viral? I've seen people send me pictures for recon and i always thought they were rumors started by an 8 year old.

*edit* ha, i checked the thread and there were 5,607 posts asking to get it. So far you have about a ~ 00.09% chance of being picked. BTW I expect that number of posters to grow quite a bit by moonday.

I'm assuming they'll probably search for people with them on their fileshare, and than out of them they pick some randomly.

And as of now you have a 1 in 1124 chance
 
Thinking about it, I going to try to remake Turf (Halo 2) first. Ascension is probably too complicated for someone like me.

Anyone have a good amount of screenshots of Turf? Maybe some overhead shots? The one in the wiki is too small.

Good grief. Say what you will about how Halo 3 maps might play compared to previous entries, but one thing you can't deny is that the Halo 3 maps are labors of love. The amount of detail and scale that goes into these maps is incredible. I really need to learn how to get out of the maps like Voc here...simply amazing.

Too bad the Brute Plasma Rifle won't be a part of this remake (say what you want, I always thought it was sweet.)
 
ughh... you are all looking at it wrong. Why in the world would you remake Turf???

Why don't you focus on remaking some real classics like LIBRARY and COMPLEX.
 
Hey guys. I re-sized and re-uploaded all the same pics that I've posted using Photoshop since the previous images had a lot of artifacts. I deleted the originals so the new ones should pop up in their place due to them having the same file names. I still see the original ones in my previous posts though (especially those terrible looking Sandbox pics).

I've cleared my browser's cache. Any reason why I'm not seeing the newer higher quality versions in my previous posts?

I've done the same. I think I'm going to spend some more time trying tomorrow though. Reviewing campaign films for screenshots is something I didn't really do all that much before, but it's quite enjoyable. Anyway my first effort is here, if anyone cares to have a look.

I'm a little annoyed that I didn't realise that you can't rename screenshots on B.net. I've had to just comment the intended names in, which is a bit dumb.

Also I never realised that the Brutes yawn and stretch. I guess I was too busy killing them to notice...
