Congrats to those who have received codes early!

Wish I could have joined for some GAF Customs this weekend but I'm out of town without an xbox. :(

Now, now sir; I think all of us would gladly do what your tag says and take one (or ten) for the maps. Don't knock the dude.

Great for Bungie, though. I applaud their community management, really, it's some of the best out there.

please don't take my question the wrong way - i have no qualms with the way it is now - it's just one of the many questions i face every Grifball weekend that i have not yet been able to answer

a few of the other questions i get: (answers)

you built the Grifball court? (yes)
did you get Rec0n for building the grifball map? (no)
do you work for Bungie? (no)
did you invent Grifball? (no)
i made a Grifball map, want to see it? (does it have Mancannons?) yes (no!)
did you get Rec0n for building the grifball map? (no)
which character do you play on RvB? (i don't)
can i get a picture of you wearing your Rec0n? (i don't have Rec0n)
you're a Grifball General, do you have a life? (no, i retired early, i spend my days building maps for other people)
can i join your Grifball team? (it's full)
can you turn team killing off? (no)
oh, yeah, if i had a BR you wouldn't stand a chance against me (look around, we're in MY backyard now!)
cummonnnnn, let me see your Rec0n!...(i...oh nevermind)

Vhfive, GM Bullfrog, Dani, Sir Fragula, Botolf, Self Induced, TDG, Chinner, Backflip... hope you guys get one. You guys deserve it.
Let's just say I've learned the lesson of not putting a contact email in the mod's Bungie.net chapter. If I wasn't so tired the delay and the excitement would be killing me.

I feel so guilty for playing FIFA 09 before even downloading the maps. It's like being a child and throwing away perfectly good food.

I had a league game, I swear!

I'm eager for some GAF impressions, once you guys pry yourselves away from the Xbox. As good as you dreamed, or better?
Assembly is the same it was when I played it at PAX from as far as I can tell. It a very solid arena-style map. I look forward to many 4v4 games on there (and maybe one day FFA; I can dream can't I?).

Orbital is better than I would have expected. Its reminds of a lot of Elongation minus all the suck. It is an asymmetrical map but both red and blue areas look to be nearly the same. Its odd. It is a visually stunning map. Imagine Cairo Station but with a ton of shine. There's intricate detail to all the walls, computer stations, monitors, flooring, etc. It puts all other human Halo 3 maps to shame. Oh! And just like with Terminal, you can overhear messages over a speaker while you play. I have yet to really pay attention to them yet though.

And Sandbox is exactly as we all have seen. The Sky Bubble is just a ton more expansive than I ever imagined though. It covers more feet than the ground area does; it stretches beyond the monoliths' killzone. The Crypt is huge as well. Its perfectly sized for Grifball and I imagine is going to replace Foundry on its own.

Hello from Sandbox. I'm really surprised with the amount of codes they've given away; major props Bungle.

Is it the shot, or are you more... pink than usual?

Congrats to those who got the maps early. Once again Bungie proves to be the best in the business when it comes to taking care of their fans. Kudos to them.

Unfortunately, I won't be able to play the Mythic maps for a while, (certainly not before they go up on Marketplace), since Halo Wars isn't really my cup of tea-- and I'm too poor to afford the LE anyways. I will of course be ready for ODST on day one, though.

In the meantime, I expect to see some inspired fan-made creations and plenty of tales of triumph and anguish. :D

How do you get into the bottom section of sandbox? Also sandbox has blown my mind. Can't wait to see some of the stuff that comes out of this.

Can't wait to walk around in Orbital. Your description matches how sweet it looked in the videos.

It's been revealed...

but there is a hole in the middle of the map, theres a block "blocking" the hole. Remove it via Forge and drop in...

I've played single-player for about two hours and I can't find any ODSTs for pictures. Where are they??
The very beginning of "The Ark."

For those who didn't make the the first batch of invites, I'm pulling for you. Looks like there may be more down the pipeline.
That include me, right? ;) Thanks, Voc, and I'll make sure to download this when I get Sandbox.

For those who didn't make the the first batch of invites, I'm pulling for you. Looks like there may be more down the pipeline.

For those who did and are interested in forging a map completely in the sky bubble, I've done you a favor. The object count is wasted when you delete a default object, and you're further penalized when you try to create new one later which would be like buying something for twice its price, as I understand it.

To eliminate this, I've organized all of Sandbox's default objects (including the game-specific pieces for slayer, ctf, assault, oddball and koth -- other gametype items are still below) inside the sky bubble. This means that all of the objects which are normally laid out for the default version will be available from the start. Here's the download for it and below are some screenshots to give you an idea.

Enjoy it, those blessed.

I expect good fucking maps in a couple of months.
Not sure if this will be a good map when it's done, since the other maps I'm working on are smaller and more arena-styled, I had to make good on my promise to do a Bespin platform-esque remake and so here it is, Aphelion.

It's still a ways off, but it's an interesting setup. The map works with a number of man cannons and a pair of teleporters which lead to and from the island platforms, while the main hub is an arena style environment. I even added a second sun, as seen in the last image. This is just a small example of the potential of Sandbox/Forge. My hat is off to the team behind Sandbox. It will be a big reason way Halo 3 will continue deep into 2010. I can't wait to see what's in store for us down the road.

I think the maps I'm going to have the most fun working on are the small, symmetrical ones, of which I've already got a few mapped out. Anyways, I heart Bungie. And I'm pulling for you folks who are looking to get in. Good luck.

Nice stuff Voc :) I'll show you guys my stuff once I actually get to work on it, right now my friends and I are screwing around in forge.

Awesome, I spent a few minutes doing something similar (far less organized) on the ground level but you went all out. Downloaded it, thanks.

Curse you! That was the first thing I was going to do.

Thanks though, will use.

edit: a quick question for anyone to answer. Will entering a code online that's meant to be used on your 360 still work? I fudged up. First time I entered it, said it wasn't valid. Second time, said the code was already in use. I can only hope the code is tied to my account now and is waiting to be used on my console.

Dude, that's freaking beautiful. Fantastic job on getting all the objects so organized up there. Putting in my download queue now; this will definitely come in handy.

Also, Bungie: I love you. Forever and ever and ever.

Uhh, what exactly am I missing here? Is there some sort of beta for the mythic maps or something?
Regular posters of HaloGAF are receiving early codes to download the MMP. Self Induced, Botolf, Fin, Dani, GM Bullfrog, backflip, Botolf, and I still have yet to receive a code (as far as I know). Don't know if I'm on the short list to receive a code (I am a regular), but I hope I am.

Hi.... :/

I just did submit some ODST pics to try my old luck, but man, I forgot how much fun the old Halo screenshotting can be. Found one ODST seemed to have taken a shine to another earlier:

Think I might replay the campaign and just screenshot it.

Dani said:
Are you guys allowed free reign on pics from the new maps?

I wouldn't mind showering in some Orbital goodness.
I'm not sure. I imagine screenshots of anything but the skull locations would be fine but I'd like to get the A-OK from our resident Bungie folk. Luke?

It'll get give me something to do with the maps aside from messing around with Sandbox.

kylej said:
you people have had map codes for hours and not one picture of a lockout remake yet? shameful.
I'll leave that remake up to the pros. One thing is for sure though, Sandbox has the tools to recreate that map perfectly.

To be safe, don't talk about the skulls.

Too fun to get, though. Had a blast trying to get them.

Are those with codes allowed to post screens and vids? That'd be swell if so. I'm especially curious about Orbital and how much you can see outside...
