Sorry I didn't join your guys game today, I was playing with a group of my other friends. Sounds like you guys had a great time. I realized that I'm really rusty right now, the games I played yesterday were the first actual online MP I've played in a good few months I believe.

It doesn't matter how rusty you are, it seems like Backflip is rusty all of the time :D

The cinematics are great yes, but the voice acting almost kills it for me :lol The elites sound like something on a shitty tv show with bad acting, like Power Ranger villains. I would've rather had them speak Sanghelli with subtitles than talk like that.

Yeah, the voice-acting and dialogue isn't the best by any means. But at least they look good.

Just finished the videos. I agree, Coco: Thursday can't come soon enough. On the second mission, there was one path that the player chose not to explore. I will check that out once I get the demo.
I'll have you know the second line is more than tolerable.

It's me!

The customs tonight were really fun. For those of you who couldn't join us, try and make it to the one next week. The plethora of maps was a nice mix of competive and stupid fun.

Will the Halo Wars demo have XBL MP, or will you just get to play against the AI?

Every now and then something wonderful happens in matchmaking with pure randoms. Just had the most epic comeback game I've ever experienced. No spectacular pics, just watch the score.

Down 63-84 we come back to win 100-94, outscoring Blue by 37-10 in the last two minutes. We finally took control of the hill, got a fresh laser and our Banshee and Hog spawn and go on a tear. I go on a streak and don't die in that same stretch; we all just caught fire. Craaaaaaazy.

It's still really bad.

"Take us home."

Couldn't be happier that Bungie is no longer MS's bitch.
Hopefully they're working on another FPS Halo universe game, and won't pull BS like this.
Of course, MS will force them to price the DLC at a premium price.

Q: Can Bungie still use the Halo name/Halo universe setpieces, or does MS totally own that now?

Considering how MS have been closing their devs lately, im glad they left. Halo or not.

And both of those lines are awesome. Especially the former, in context with Earth's situation and Hood's state of mind.

The incessant bouncing on the jump to conclusions mat, Claude, does not. :D
There was no bouncing at all, sir. I posted a link I found, and outlined the basic inference that came from it. I said nothing about the cinematics not being in-engine, and the reason I commented about using outside talent instead of internal resources (even though you'd done exactly that for Halo 3) was because I thought it was interesting that you were doing it again with a project so much smaller than Halo 3.

In fact, Ghaleon pointed out the B.net news piece on D.A.M.N. FX less than an hour after Kibbles' post, for anyone jumping to conclusions. (I probably should have done the same in the original newspost - my bad.)

If fear of overreaction drives what news gets mentioned or not mentioned, I'm wasting my time even RUNNING a fansite.

Whatever.

You think those lines are good but "open sesame" is bad? They're both terrible and extremely cheesy.

There's also what Miranda says when you are on the beach at the beginning of "The Covenant," how the rings will destroy us all.

Dax01 said:
"Master Chief, this is either the best decision you've ever made or the worse."

That line & Miranda's bs "to war" lines were terrible, I've always said this.
In fact it's one of the things that disappoints me most about Halo 3.

The writing is un-even in terms of quality. From Truth's death (holy shizbot Arbiter, you're a freakin' badass) to Hood's pathetic whimper at the Chief (which doesn't even make a whole lot of sense).
As for you using this as a counter argument to bashing of HW's not-so-fantastic dialogue & voice work I appreciate your optimism, but ever since the flood have been revealed I've looked at Halo Wars through apprehensive eyes.

I'm not defending Halo Wars for it's (apparent) terrible dialogue. It's just that there is mocking of the dialogue in Halo Wars when there is equally terrible dialogue in Halo 3. Both games' stories seem to be on the decent to bad side of things.

NOW do you understand why some chuckle at your behavior relating to Halo Wars?

TDG said:

No. If someone else in another thread was making fun of the dialogue in Halo 3, I would interject with "Yeah, the story in Halo 3 is bad, but the Terminals are worth a read. They almost make up for most of the cheesy dialogue found in the game."

Also throw me in the group with the people who liked the "Shoot my way out...mix things up a bit" line. I thought it was quite cool.

Ditto. Being able to poke fun at yourself is a good life skill for all the Halo kids out there. If only more people took the life lessons of Halo to heart.

I agree. A bit of self-depreciating humor was a nice touch.
Dax01 said:
People are chuckling at hilariously bad HW lines, and you attempt to deflect by bringing up hilariously bad H3 lines that we all laughed at 18 months ago.

...as if you're in here doing damage control. As if you're trying to make sure that the tone doesn't get too negative towards HW. It's like watching a PR guy in action. :lol

Isn't the Halo series meant to be a big dumb blockbuster action series with cheesy dialogue and kick ass moments?

The amount of serious discussion around some throw away lines boggles my mind.

If anything they should be cheesier!

I get the feeling that the story is supposed to be taken seriously (and it is taken seriously around here,) which means that the dialogue is fair game to be critiqued, in my mind at least.

Not my fault that I quoted you before your stealth edit. You see, it doesn't work that way. When you write something, and it's responded to, and you edit it later, you tell the person that you edited, you don't get mad at them for not quoting what was your entire post after the edit.

What custom game types/user content would you guys recommend for 4 player local? Anyone got any good experiences or able to point me in the right direction? Me and some buddies have been playing a lot last couple of weeks due to saving some money and not being able to do much and we're finding most fun comes from creating different game modes and keeping it fresh.

I'm afraid I don't understand what you're getting at.

Anyways, Sandbox. I think a genius on Bnet has it all figured out. He deserves better than Recon, like a gold helmet or something, with a disco ball.

Here is my theory.

The Orbs are NOT <----NOT base markers. The base markers are the little pillars that have either the red lights or the blue lights. THE ORBS ARE NOT BASE MARKERS YOU PILE OF CRAP!!! haha...just joking. Anyways, what I believe these 'Glowing Orbs' are are terrain and nature filters...allow me to explain.

"Sandbox combines large-scale vehicular combat with a limitless amount of Forge customization. Boasting a tiered, open-world layout, “Halo 3” players will be able to build their own unique game experiences using the Forge map editor. Sandbox is a map unlike any Bungie has ever created."
-From Bungie Weekly Update: 1/30/09

MY THEORIES

Main Points

○ large-scale vehicular combat
○ limitless amount of forge customization
○ open-world layout
○ build their own unique game experiences
○ a map unlike any Bungie has ever created

Explanation

Obviously, those three sentences are incredibly powerful and store lots of information. It is I who have brought the information out.

The Theory

My theory that ties in what you have seen previously in the bulleted list all together. The map is pretty much what we all have been waiting for: A Large-Scale Foundry Map Editor. I believe that those little 'glowing orbs' are really terrain and nature filters. I mean, why can't it be because Microsoft even said that it is unlike anything that Bungie has ever created. I think that the blue orbs are for the terrain you choose and the red/orange graphed orb is for the nature effects. I believe that when you go into forge, it is really a blank graphed canvas that you saw in those videos a long time ago...I cannot remember their names but you know what I'm talking about. Well, you first get to choose what type of terrain you want the map to be built off of such as:

○ Sand
○ Grass
○ Dirt
○ Water
○ Snow
○ Floating

You then can pick the land formations you want such as:

○ Flat
○ Hill 1
○ Hill 2
○ Hill 3
○ Hill 4
○ Hill [etc]
○ Canyon
○ Stream
○ Cliff

and place them on the maps just like you would a crate or a traffic cone. Once that is configured, you can add buildings or 'flat plates' that you saw on the bottom of Sandbox.

○ Class UNSC (foundry)
○ Class Covenant (snowbound)
○ Class Forerunner (avalanche)
○ Class Brute (sandbox)
○ Class Flood (isolation)
○ Class Nature (trees, bushes, rocks, etc.)

In each of these categories, there would be relative objects such as for example:

Class UNSC

○ Crate
○ Ramp
○ Etc.

Class Flood

○ Infected Tree
○ Flood Infection Form Sack

You get the point. Anyways, after you assemble all that together, you can add Nature Effects such as:

○ Sunset (sandbox)
○ Sunrise (sandbox)
○ Moon (night)
○ Sun (day)
○ Snow
○ Rain
○ Wind

Either way, you understand.

EDIT: I must have lost my train of thought because I forgot to add something about the Guardians. Depending on which map you are on, you will choose like boundaries and ways for the Guardians to kill you...such as the Sandtrap tripmines, or even a Rocket coming from outer space and blowing you to hell.

Why can't we read the last press release and extract information like this? Failures we all are.

I would say 2v2 on Cold Storage would be your best bet for a map. It is free on marketplace if you haven't downloaded it yet. I am not sure if you can download it with a silver account though.

He deserves something, all right.

If those were Forge filters, you wouldn't be able to see them in that screen; they'd disappear like the lighting filters.

Not sure about the nature filters since the orbs seem to appear in a regular game, as shown in the screen. (I'm assuming it's not a forge screenshot because there are no spawn points visible). If they were filters, it wouldn't be visible. I highly doubt we'd have all those classes and stuff either. I'm amazed at how detailed information he gets from a screenshot and a sentence. :lol

It is he who has brought this information out. To him, we must be eternally grateful.

Yeah, for some reason the dialogue in Halo Wars hasn't really bothered me -- at least not in the way that everyone else is getting hung up on it.

But like you, I first became concerned with Halo Wars' inclusion of the Forerunner environments and the parasite. It seemed to me that this was a direct attempt to piggyback the original games rather than expand on them. Watching the first cinematic with Regret has assuaged that fear somewhat, being that the writing is doing exactly what I would expect it to -- setting up the story for the elimination of all evidence. It seems to indicate that by the end of Halo Wars, the only people who might know about the Forerunners and the Flood would be the Prophets and possibly ONI, both of which only reinforce elements presented directly by Bungie.

Right now, I'm more excited about the Mythic Maps and ODST than anything else, but Halo Wars looks like it might be a lot of fun. I'll reserve my judgment on whether its purchasable or not after playing the demo.

There was plenty of mocking of Halo 3's dialogue (and earlier games') WHEN WE LEARNED OF IT. It's mocked-out at this point.

Halo Wars, on the other hand, is new - and ripe for mocking.

I've got a gold account I can use, still paying for it despite never using it lol. I was wondering if there were any particularly fun or just plain different maps/modes I could download that people have created in forge.

He said the thing in the middle is an overshield that you can jump to.

After playing the Q3 Live beta for a while I hopped back into Halo three last night.

Two points, Wow, Halo feels so slow all of a sudden, yet I still can't react quickly enough. :lol

Secondly I suck, I majorly, majorly, terribly suck.

Definitely Juggernaut.

3 buddies and I had so much fun with that on Ascension for Halo 2.

Valhalla seems like a good choice for Halo 3 but I haven't tried it yet.

The Overshield on the center pillar is indeed an Overshield. The red and blue orbs are red and blue respectively. I wouldn't expect them to part sandy seas or conjure swarms of locusts.
