Holy shit, did you just whip out a Wheel of Time quote? Awesome :lol

I haven't read the last two, I'm planning on re-reading all the books before the last one comes out this year.

Also I couldn't find this Booties post, until I realized it was on this page and I already had him on ignore, I don't even remember how or when that happened. I've got like half of this thread on ignore though, so it all kinda blends together :(
oh shit the last wheel of time book is coming out. i did not know that.
i think i have read them all but its been a while. gonna have to take a trip to the library

EDIT:

I just listened to a voice message from a guy:
I wonder how excited he was after playing a game with you. He probably was checking his armor permutations several times a day, waiting for that magical 11th option to show up. He's been wondering if he should send you a note, not wanting to be bothersome but desperately hoping his good fortune in running into would turn into a shiny suit of Recon armor.

And now the note has been sent, and the checking will renew again. Eventually his disappointment will spill over into sadness, and from there into anger, and eventually, depression. When he leaves this world by his own hand, you will wish you sent him that Recon armor.

Message was from Ghaleon's alt confirmed.

Played Halo for the first time in a while today - here's what happened:
Game 1: BRs on High Ground
I try clicking LS right away to sprint, realize I can't. Jump on mongoose, grab rockets >> we blow a fuse in our house.

Game 2: TS on Pit Stop
Laggiest game of Halo 3 I have EVER played - not exagerrating.

All in all, its good to be back :D

Voc, Ghaleon and I spent some time exploring The Storm today, trying to get outside of the level. We actually did get a short distance outside of the area you're supposed to be in, but, of course, we immediately ran into extremely low soft ceilings, and unpassable soft walls.

Were casual players in Halo 1 constantly finding themselves outside of the levels on accident? Was it a massive epidemic? A game-breaking problem?

As we all know, there are players that have, over the years, continued to play the campaign, breaking out of the levels and exploring - I submit that the number of those players is not only greater, but that they vastly outnumber the amount of casual players who accidently find themselves outside the level and unsure of where to go.

Yeah, I had a blast getting out of the levels and doing little exploits in CE and to a lesser degree Halo 2. It really is a shame they added so many invisible barriers and death walls. I supposed they did it so they game comes off as more polished. It may make your game look bad if all the youtube videos are of people "breaking" the game even though it's just campaign.

Woulda been awesome if one of the skulls let the player disable the invisible barriers.

That's the smartest thing I've ever heard.

But from a technical standpoint, I'd imagine it'd be near-impossible.

The game tonight really has me thinking about ODST. The hub world as described so far is a much more open environment than we've seen in a Halo game. It seems built on the idea of exploration, which is something the Halo series has almost always eschewed in favor of a more directed mission structure. That will be encouraging people to push up and out as much as possible, really explore those nooks and crannies. If it's as loaded with invisible barriers and soft ceilings as Halo 3 proper, it could be incredibly frustrating.

But if it's truly built with that kind of exploration in mind, it will be glorious. And another throwback to the fans in a game that increasingly sounds like a big gift bouquet to long time Halo fans.

Yeah pretty much. It's probably assumed that you're on an alt. account like everyone else in Matchmaking.
Fixed for accuracy.

Ghaleon,

Agree. I hope its worth given a sense of exploration.

And shiska, while you and your crack team are busy reading forums, you should tell the "banhammer" people to do their job too. I still see people exp boosting, rank boosting, and all that other shit those kids do, in every single playlist

Invisible walls are frustrating as hell. One thing I loved about Morrowind and, to a lesser degree, Oblivion is the ability to go where ever you could wiggle into. A good chunk of time I'd spend doing the following: See a mountain or structure in the distance, challenge myself to go there, and unless there was some extreme physical barrier I'd normally be able to accomplish this.

I've just recently started playing Fallout 3 and when I first opened that overworld map I got a big grin on my face because I was expecting a similar experience. I've sunk about 10 hours in and I've found many invisible walls and instead of being able to travel anywhere on the map, much of the map is blocked off and you use underground subways to essentially teleport from one point to the other. It's an increasing trend in games from Morrowind where you could go absolutely anywhere (especially with crazy potions and spells) to Fallout 3 and from CE where you could climb outside of maps and bypass portions to Halo 3 which is full of soft ceilings and death walls.

You can get out of some of the campaign levels in Halo CE? Can you give me examples and show me how? Whatever you tell me, I'll try on my next playthrough. I've never been able to glitch my way out of any of the campaign levels in Halo CE.

Do we know when there's going to be more information about Recon BTW?

They'll be telling us what Sandbox is the first week of February. Then on March 3rd they're going to cover the last three mythic maps. Which will be released with ODST. In June they will be annoucing the extra maps code-named "Recon Map Pack" which will have an extra 6 maps. So after that they will be going in-depth with ODST campaign, in July 2009. In case you're LTTP, Bungie has released a schedule of megatons, which you can see here.

Go crazy.

(They're sorted by date, so go to the end for the more complicated/cooler stuff.)

Also:

http://ducain.org/utfoo/ (especially Exploration)

Some of the links might be wonky on that one; if they are, change 'maphawk.ontv.com' to 'ducain.org' and they'll work.

I got a killtacular yesterday with an AR start on Foundry. Probably wouldn't have happened if I had a BR.

Also, Smashed is interesting. I kept getting stuck on things, but that might have just been this thread getting into my head.

Oh wow. Thanks, Wu!:D I clicked on the last link you provided, Exploration, and looked at how to get the Jeep on top of Silent Cartographer. It doesn't show how he was able to get himself on top of the island along with the Warthog. Do you know how?

Edit: It seems for most of the exploration glitches, he only shows himself doing it, not how to do it. Are there tutorials?

Hi guys i can't wait for Halo Wars.

It's like I'm really paying $80 to play Sandbox. :(

:(
We still don't even know what Sandbox is....
What if the map turns out to be the spiritual successor to Chiron TL-34, only desert themed?
Bet you'd feel extra-punked for buying the unlimited edition halo wars after that one.

FAILO Wars

Because the likely 2-4 weeks wait for DLC release will just be too hard to handle.
Y'all act as if this is the only way to get the
already a bit overpriced 10 dollar
3-map pack.

I don't like sand. It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere. Not like Chiron. Here everything is soft and smooth.

No kidding.

...I just hope we don't have too many people around here complaining about the Halo Wars CE pack-in who end up buying it. Those people should have the word "Hypocrite" branded on their buttocks'.

Playing Halo 3 on my projector makes it look pretty average because the resolution issue gets blown up (literally). But I played H3 at a friend's a few days ago on his 42" Plasma, and it looked SLIIIICK. Didn't notice the jaggies as much.

Definitely still a great looking game. Just wanted to say that. Even after playing Gears 2, KZ2 beta, Resistance 2...Halo 3 looks fantastic in MP.

I'm doing a youth event tomorrow night, 3 projectors, 3 360s, and 3 copies of Halo 3.

Unfortunately I only have one copy of all the map packs, my friends don't own them, so we'll have to stick with the maps that game with the game. I wish MS made it so those maps could be loaded over the LAN to the other 360s...it could take a little longer but that's a small price to pay.

Personally I'm wondering if ODST will have anti-aliasing or HD resolution. It could look very, very good if so. Halo 3 had everything else, just needs that.

Nothing has been confirmed to my knowledge, but the running assumption being that all multiplayer maps will be included. This could be something of a bad thing, as it could be justification for a higher price point from MS (causing some double-dipping for those of us that have paid for every release up till now).

Well, I suppose the good thing about that is that it would free up some of the space on my HDD that those packs are taking up... Not that I would pay $60 for that.

Remember that the Heroic map pack is free as is the map Cold Storage. But yeah, it's a bummer there isn't anything like the Halo 2 map pack disk that let everyone load the maps to their HDD by just slipping the disk in there. The event sounds awesome BTW.

They haven't really been talking much about the updates to the engine. I'm sure there are some (having the H3 MP component in an older engine version wouldn't upset anything right?) but we'll have to wait until we see some actual in-game media before we'll get the details.

Do we know if Bungie is developing a new engine right now? I don't remember hearing anything about new engines and we know that they have at least 2 games in the works besides ODSTDAC/DC. Wonder if they plan on iterating on the Halo 3 engine for those games or if they've been working from the ground up.

I can certainly vouch for the game looking the best at 42 inch. Best way to view it.
