Have you ever attepmted to program anything in your life? You cannot simply "switch" the two AIs in and out of different skins. The two enemies are comepletely different in nature. The Brutes are organized in packs and are more prone to brute force attacks. Elite enemies are far more tacticle and not prone to simple maneuvers like the brutes. The Elites are a lot like humans, they take cover and shoot from a distance while occationally lobbing grenades.
And as someone above said, if you just switched the AIs, then have you really changed anything?

Can't believe I'm about to say this but.....
I agree with Juices (here, on this ONE issue)

I think you totally can just switch the AI's, I didn't notice anything different from the brutes in H3 vs. the elites in H1-H2 that would make me think the AI played terribly different. It's not like the elites AI even stayed the same from H1 to H2... so why wouldn't they get more advanced for H3 (this is the nature of video games). Add to this the nature of the encounter playing differently as an ODST, and everything will feel a bit different anyway. I don't see the big deal.

If anything, I'm really surprised that the perfectionist nature of Bungie seems a little slack around the story fiction here in lieu of the timeline.

Realize that a BUNCH of the AI in Halo is just covered by difficulty levels changing damage taken, damage given, accuracy, and rate of fire.

And yes I've read the AI Bungie.net publications, it was like hanging out with Captain Obvious.

If I remember correctly, and feel free to correct me if I am wrong, in Halo 3, the AI is the same across all difficulties and isn't affected by the player's choice of normal, legendary et al. The only reason why a player would think so, is because in higher difficulties the enemies generally live a lot longer and the player has longer to witness the AI acting out over a longer period of time.

Also, from observing the AI behavior in Halo 3, I seriously doubt that damage taken by the player is considered in the variables much, if at all, or the accuracy or the rate of fire.

The AI, from my observations, is mostly dictated by the immediate environment, direction of threat (from where the player is approaching) and kill count (for example, grunts shit themselves if their leader is taken down). There are probably a host of other variables, but these seem to have the most effect.

I can't comment on ODST's AI at all because I've seen none of it.

I am not flaming you, or your team. I am trying to help. I can provide assistance, free of charge, and uncredited, if you choose to make the game with Elites.
I realize you are rushing to a deadline and not creating a work of art, so it is excusable. I was just pointing out to the OP, who may not have seen the Brute AI, that is not amazing.

<3 Ghal for jogging that memory.

:lol

Nice ninja edit, Urk.

Elites would not charge upon losing their shields, as their shields will actually recharge unlike Brute armor.

A straight swap of A.I. would not do justice to the elites that we hold so dear.

All games are mostly tons of copy and paste, a few new textures and you wouldn't know the difference. =)

Again Copy Paste EDIT

You do not reinvent the wheel here. The AI tree is there, you would take what is similar between brutes and elites, take whats kind of similar and edit it and remove what wouldn't be used.

Yes Stormtrooper I've done some basic AI programming along time ago but thats not important I'm not saying I could do it I'm saying I understand they could swap the code in any basic OOP.

Again my thought is I don't feel its a technical limitation they reached, elites are not in ODST because that is how they wanted the story to go. I don't want to go off on tangents.

You're totally right. An important part of programming is code re-usage. You use old code and tweak it for the new needs that you have. You think they make Madden every year from scratch??

I would hit it so hard I would have to take out a court-sanctioned restraining order against myself.

I honestly thought for a second that was Viggo Mortensens face on Legolas.

Elites fight very differently. Becuase Elites have rechargeable shields, they will take damage and retreat in order to recharge. Brutes don't have this luxory, so encounters tend to be quicker and much more close quarters oriented. Brutes have a set amount of armor that will not recharge, so as they take more damage they just keep getting closer because they know that they will die soon if they dont act quickly. It chages the pace of gameplay.

Elites don't have as strict a hierarchy as the Brutes do (gameplay wise). ELite squads work pretty cohesively, with the leader doing as much fighting as the subordinates. IN a Brute pack, the cheifton sits back and supervises; he only eneters the fight when he feels like using his hammer-o-death.

I have no idea how deep Bungie's AI code is, though. I'm assuming that this is how they behave, but they could infact be a lot more simpler in the game. I may be mixing in some stuff that I've read about in the novels.

Nice medal, but looking at the actual carnage report, lame.

Let's see. Two guys quit. Of the two remaining, one wasn't good enough to get a single skill, I take it he just stood there the entire match getting killed, a stander? Or a really shit player? The other, highest rank 15, an obviously very low skilled player. Considering he had four guys to face, it's imaginable there would be someone that he couldn't kill.

Looking at the map overview, it appears that you spawn killed alot too, so it increases the likelyhood that of the two guys that did not quit, one was a stander.

Very lame perfection dude, it basically handed to you as you trounced through the other team that, not only had quitters, a possible stander and only one guy (that's very low skilled) doing the proper fighting.

I wouldn't show that off, it makes you come across as a bad winner. Did you teabag the poor guy too? =P

You're better and more capable than that dude.

Lol Buzzkill dude. Kids on my team were dieing so the other team was doing something and you look at the DNF it was late in the game. I'd watch it, fun things, people should post more file share videos, alotta people have the same shit time after time and I enjoy watching stuff.

Jesus Christ, Dani shitting on Juices confirmed!

I'm not shitting on you, btw! =P

I'm just very analytical and your link provided me with a chance to see if I could figure it out.

Btw,
=P
The main guy had 15 kills, one quitter had 2 kills, one quitter had 0 kills and the other guy also had no kills.
=p

I agree with you though, more post match analysis, it's fun. I'll definitely watch the video in a few minutes to see how correct or wrong I was.

Righto Juices or anyone, enjoy a clip of mine. It's not a perfection or a kill streak or anything. I was in a match, not fairing too well and it was obvious my team was going to lose. I wasn't really on form either. Except, for a moment, I felt like god. For a brief moment, it was my turn to poop on the better team and poop I did.

Wow, just finished Ghosts of Onyx. All I can say is WTF.

Really? Like, really?

I'm not entirely sure, but guessing from the title names of the last two books they wont touch on the future of the group trapped within Onyx. So, I'm going to have to wait a while longer for the this story arc to continue... poo

But, you guys were right. The books only continue to get better.

I've yet to read Ghosts. Would you recommend it someone impatient such as myself? I blow through books so it wouldn't be an issue and I've enjoyed whatever Halo stuff I have read in the past.

Considering my next monthly to read list and wondering if this should should bump off an old star wars book for me for next month.

My only issue is reading multi-book stories without access to the next part or conclusion. Drives me nuts and sometimes I find it hard to recall some story parts because I read a lot. Annoying as I like to follow a story properly, especially sub-plots and minor things whch tend to be forgotten if I have to wait between parts.

I can tolerate it if there aren't too many sub plots to follow.

One of us! One of us!

Glad you enjoyed them, they're good fun

If you liked First Strike I see no reason why wouldn't enjoy Ghosts of Onyx. The cheesiness in the series has started to recede but still enough for me to knock the series for it. BUT...

The main problem I have with the series is the numerous times I have to open the previous books to remember the times/dates and all the shit that happened. I've confused myself a couple of times and I had to re-read some of the old books to implant what had happened due to the fact that there are time blocks between the books that were filled in through the games.

Oh and the book starts slow, kinda like all the books in the series.

---

I'm going to go buy Harvest and Cole Protocol. It's too bad they cost so freakin much. WTF, 8 dollars for a paperback? COME ON!! I'm a poor college student here give me a break.

Hmm, I hate checking facts, and the reliance on stuff from previous books? Annoying, oh well, it sounds like it would be best then if I just clump all the Halo books together for another month (Star New Jedi Order style!).

I don't care about slow or fast starts, I'll finish the book for certain, very few books have ever caused me to give up on them and in those cases, it's never been because the title started slow.

And Halo paperback novels over here in the UK cost about $9.50. =P

Totally OT question for anyone who's had RRoD (everyone?).

I got my system back yesterday, and it has the same serial number as the one I sent. But I had to download NXE again, reset all of the settings, etc. No big deal.

But when ever my wife or kids sign in to their profiles, all of the Arcade games turn to demos, and they can't play the games they have saved. I've found they can go into a game with my profile, and then switch, and find their saved game that way. But it's pretty annoying that they can't do anything from the dashboard. Has anyone else run into this?

1) 2 years, 1 month, no RROD.
2) I think the DRM transfer tool solves that. Or, try re-downloading them by going to download history.

Probably the whole DRM protection going on.

Are their profiles signed into Live? If so, it should work, if not, then they need to be signed into Live to work.

I guess you could try transfering your licenses using the DRM transfer tool on Xbox.com.

Every time I do that it takes me through the full sign up process, including billing info, etc. as if they have to pay. So I never finish the process.

yea it sucks. I got a new xbox because my old 360 died and I was out of warranty and now I can't play Halo on my other accounts because it says I don't have the new maps. How am I supposed to beat up on bad kids??? :P
