Okay, this was uncalled for:

I see Avalanche regularly in Squad Battle, and Ghost Town and Blackout in SWAT. The Legendary maps show up in many places - they're just not REQUIRED, so if Avalanche is picked in Squad Battle, and not all 12 players have it, it'll be ignored, silently.
I'm well aware that the legendary maps are already incorporated into the playlists. However, it doesn't really matter, considering that they rarely come up.

I've never played Avalanche or any legendary map in Squad Battle. I've played Ghost Town twice in SWAT. Blackout comes up occasionally in Team Doubles. Other than that, unless I want to waste my time in the unranked DLC playlists, they never come up. So if you're getting to play them consistantly and you think you got your money's worth, good for you, but I don't feel the same at all. Essentially, personal anecdotes FTW.

My feeling is, Halo 3 had a poor selection of maps at launch. Since launch, to the average online player like me, who pops into Team Slayer and Lone Wolves and occasionally Squad Battle or Team Doubles, there have been three maps added in the year since launch, and I've payed for six, and that's incredibly disappointing.

Wow, bummer. I'd send that message - if I were tired of the bullshit, I guess. I'm finding I'm playing Halo 3 more than I ever have before.
By "bullshit" I'm referring to Microsoft holding back maps, and not allowing the legendary maps to become free. You're okay with this happening?

Wizman23 said:
I don't understand the big deal about waiting until next year for the Mythic Maps.
The big deal is that there continues to be a lack of variety in the matchmaking experience when it comes to maps due to the maps being held back.
Wizman23 said:
No reason for all the MS hate either. From a business standpoint it makes no sense what so ever to launch the maps now with Fable 2, Gears 2, Left 4 Dead, and a slew of other games due out over the next month or so.
But who cares whether it's a good business decision? When I'm playing online matchmaking, and I'm getting bored because the same few maps that have been coming up since last year are still the only ones coming up, the fact that Microsoft made a smart business decision isn't going to comfort me.

You can't blame MS for holding back the maps. It would be a really bad business decision to release downloadable content for a year-old game in the middle of a season full of blockbusters. It just doesn't make sense. Sure, the hardcore fans would come back and buy the maps, but the vast majority of players are going to be too busy with the half-dozen other awesome games to even boot up Halo 3 and notice that there are new maps. You release them for two reasons 1) To make money, and 2) To increase excitement about a game. Releasing them right now would only do half of one of those.

Not only would this be a bad time to release six new maps, it is literally, like, the worst possible time ever to do it. I thought last fall was rough with Assassin's Creed, BioShock, Mass Effect, and H3 - but this season is even more packed.

The maps will get released when things have calmed down, and players are looking for something to return back to.

I agree. I am perfectly happy to lay Halo 3 aside for a while and pick up some other games. It will then be all the more glorious to get the new maps in "early Winter 2009".

^ Yeah I'm glad they aren't releasing this fall. I'm going to be too busy with games like Gears of War 2 and Far Cry 2. Winter 2009 seems great.

Luke really must hate us. :lol

I must be one of the few, the proud, the limited here... :lol

I can only play other non-halo games for a couple weeks tops without getting bored and going back to Halo. So far the competition I have seen on my friends list for Halo3 since the launch was:

COD4
GTA IV
Fable II
And I'm sure GOW2 will be the next one.

I can see GOW2 taking over for the next couple of months so hopefully I can still gather enough people to play H3 at night as I refuse to enter matchmaking with randoms.

PM Domino Theory for Week 2 lovin'.

Pretty much. :D

And I think the 10,000th time I'll say this: If you want to get into week 2 of Favorites, Send a FR to "NGHC" and recommend your content to the GT. I gotta work on Week 2 sometime this week.

Dom, Two Boxes is going into Week 2?

If urk allows the shits and giggles of it, yeah.
And if Shake sends NGHC a FR, plug #10,001

You should see the lolly screen I'm putting up on behalf of EazyB. Should be great. :lol

No, not really. But I also don't see boycotting the service to complain as a useful (or even appropriate) response.

Your reasons are totally valid - for you. If I saw things as you do, I'd be on to other games right now. I'm pretty sorry about that, because you've been an enjoyable part of this (mini-)community, and it sucks that things have worked out leaving you this bitter.

We all have our limits, I guess.

Wow, I hope so. The crap that the B.netters gave AJ over our pan-cam environment shots will be nothing compared to what they'll do when confronted with Two Boxes.

I expect major lulz.

Meltdown. Sweet, delicious meltdown :lol

I just got cheated out of the Yorick achievement! Oddball on Ghost Town in Team Doubles (which means, yes, every oddball kill takes two hits if they have full shields). I get two oddball kills, then beat a guy down at the very end for the third... and no oddball medal pops up, just the regular beatdown medal. So no achievement! Bungle owe me big.

This is all true, however, by the end of November, the NXE will have been released, Left 4 Dead, Gears 2, Banjo, etc. so I don't see why the Mythic Maps couldn't come out mid December or on Christmas. :)

And what's The Plateform?

My attempt at being a nice guy.

I had an idea for a flash or java-based program. However, I lack any knowledge in flash or java to create such a tool, and I wanted to know if it already existed somewhere on the internet anyway.

It would consist of several different top-down versions of the Halo maps and a palette of various color-based lines and denotations of flags, enemies, bombs, vehicles, weapons, or territories - basically, all the key points that would be necessary to elaborate a comprehensive strategy on a whiteboard-like canvas.

If anyone knows of such a thing, could you send me the link?

It's good to see that we're finally up there. Thanks Urk for puttin the work in to make it happen. And doubly thanks for the Smalhalla shout out (don't think it made the favorites though). Again, thanks you Mr, Omlet for stepping up and organizing it.

Can't wait to see the reaction to Number's The Plateform
:lol

I would be upset if Smalhalla wasn't in week 2 :)

Making yourself a prime target for account theft...

Yeah, I could make a pretty compelling case for getting Recon, but even if I got it I wouldn't want to wear it and have to deal with the possibility of account theft and dealing with the bullshit that entails in getting fixed.

You suck.

Shake I'm sorry I deleted that box. :( I swear I didn't press delete, it may have disappeared when I moved the teleporter into it.

Anyway, more importantly:

We have preventative measures already in place.
Besides, a screenshot doesn't have any information tied to it.

I'm just curious as to how many downloads we could rack up on a single screenshot.

Well, it's not that I'm really boycotting, it's just a thing where I've bought two of the map packs, and with both of them for several months afterwards I've almost never played them in MM, so with the next round of maps [barring something unexpected, like them being immediately required for my regular playlists] I'm just going to pass, since they'll be in Recon, which I will [of course] be buying.

And if you're referring to my playing Halo 3 and looking at the most played list, that's not me boycotting either, I'm not actively trying to not play, or asking others to not play. I'm just not playing Halo 3 MM unless a RL friend wants me to play or something. As for the XBL Most Played List, when I saw Halo 3 retake the top spot this week, I just had the same sort of reaction I have when I look at Wii sales numbers. I sigh and say, "this is probably sending a message to [Microsoft/Nintendo] that is counter-productive to what I want from them.

But hey, I'm glad that you understand, and I appreciate the kind words, bro.

Welp we hit mid to late 20s and 30 in Squad Battle. No more matches for us.

Shishka where are you*~*~

Looking at the skill distribution graph for Squad. It's a fairly interesting curve. Not very different from RBTB.

Edit: In other words, there's not much I can say to help you. There just aren't many players on above 20 right now. You can try setting your priority to "quickest" to see if that brings results, but that could come with some drawbacks (latency, skill disparity, etc).

Still angry about this, but not as much as I am about finishing Portal: Still Alive twice today and somehow not getting the 'Out of the Blue' achievement either time.

Hey cool NeoGAF featured on BNET. I take the week two faves are already selected or is someone still reviewing them here to pass on to bungie?

Congrats guys!

I'm blaming them. They just want all us Halo fans to buy their 'BIG GAME'
GOW2
for the year. Before anyone replies, once again, about making the 'correct business decision'; we get it MS likes money. But I'm not falling for it, fuck MS.

A screenshot (or any content from a game played with multiple people on XBL) is tied to the game the content was pulled from. Take WhiteBoy's Bungie Favorites screen for example
and laugh at all the comments while you're there
. If you scroll down under the screen there's a button "view game" that'll bring ya to the Post Game Carnage Report with the names of all the players. If you trust your preventative measures enough to do it anyways, good luck.
