Yeah, I agree with this. My guess is that we'll get it next year. Possibly as a lead up to Halo Wars in late winter/early spring - when Gears 2's authority begins to wane.
This is batshit crazy. I mean, if this even resembles Microsoft's reasoning...

You are all acting like a puppy that has been kicked in the past, and fears being kicked again.

That's what I'm sayin', brah.

How's that road trip coming?

Staying in Coeur d' Alene tonight. Tomorrow I will cross over into Washington and let my poor, reliable Honda have an extended, well-deserved rest. Still no clue when I'll be back on Live. Hopefully the friend I'm staying with has reliable service I can leech off of.

I need a fix.

Cuz I'm going down.

Look, surely Microsoft knows their audience. They know that hardcore gamers -- who like hardcore shooters -- buy many, many games a year, and play for many, many hours. They know that people are willing to pay 800 points for three maps, so of course they'll pay 1200 or more for six! And they'll pay that while still dropping cash on Gears. And they'll play both titles happily, and often. Halo 3 does not drink Gears of War 2's milkshake, Microsoft.

Post improves with paragraph breaks. Truly you are an astute editor.

Just find out where Luke lives, then play popular Xbox Live title Halo 3 with me and eat pizza (and profit??).

The original draft did not accurately capture the rhythm of the material being sourced.

I just got an awesome idea. When the NXE comes out I'll install Halo 3 to my Hard Drive using a friend's disc, and maybe my disc will still work well enough so that it can verify, or whatever reason it needs to be in while playing off your Hard Drive. :D That way I don't have to go buy a new disc. Rawr.

I find it funny how a lot of people have been claiming this is Microsoft's hit on MGS 4 when it's clear that it's supposed to go up against Killzone 2.

I wonder if it'll be PG rated content. The trailer seems to be very gritty and human. I would be surprised if there wasn't any cursing given how you're one of the ODST and will probably be partnered up with quite a few through out the game. Soldiers need to abuse.

Uh, what? Of course it does. It's practically an identical target audience. Just about every non-GAFer on my friend list who plays Halo right now is fully making the jump to Gears 2, probably including myself. That's not to say Halo 3 will still not be in the top few played games on Xbox Live, but that's crazy talk. Probably because you're angry right now, like an irrational woman.

I play with Daravon nightly. Sometimes his wife cackles in the background.

You actually haven't been on much lately, we've only played once or maybe twice this week. It's sweet that you miss my wife though.

You really think the price will be that low? I'm guessing it'll be a pretty fleshed out game, and plus a map pack? I'm already putting $60 aside--especially considering MS is still the publisher.

Banjo and VP2 both launch at lower prices.

Obviously we don't know what amount of content to expect from this expansion yet, so this may come a little premature.. But I think I would take issue with paying full retail price for a campaign and map-pack, given what we've come to expect from a bungie release in terms of content.

Too soon I know.

I just want to know the status of the Mythic Map Pack. :(

EDIT: Eurogamer interviews Luke and Brian; Mythic Map Pack coming out early next year as DLC.

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=256303

Eurogamer: How long has the Recon project been in the works?

Brian Jarrard: It's only been in full production for a couple of months now. This isn't the typical, huge, three-year cycle for our studio; it's one of three products we have going on, so it's a little smaller in scale.

Eurogamer: So the idea to do this expansion definitely came from you? It wasn't something Microsoft forced you into?

Brian Jarrard: Yeah. We had a lot of ideas on the table the team were eager to explore. This is not going to be more of the same; there's going to be a little bit of a new twist. Playing as the Orbital Drop Shop Trooper will bring about some new experiences for fans, and hopefully it will be a pleasant surprise.

+100 Bungie. :)

Eurogamer: You've confirmed there will be new multiplayer maps. Will there be any new multiplayer modes?

Brian Jarrard: Umm...

Luke Smith: For the purposes of this [interview], we're really just focusing on the campaign stuff.

Brian Jarrard: I can tell you that even before this product's released in the Fall, we do have a Mythic map pack that's coming out early next year. There hasn't been an exact release date set for that. The Halo 3 Recon retail pack will continue to expand, and I think enhance, people's multiplayer experiences.

Eurogamer: Have you settled on a price for Recon?

Brian Jarrard: We haven't. Ultimately it won't be down to us to settle on that, it will be something Microsoft determines. Hopefully it should represent a really compelling value for our fans, but it's not a full-game release as far as we're concerned.

It could possibly be 49.99 or less! :P Either way, day one.

I don't think so," he said during an interview in Tokyo. "We've already put a couple of map packs out, we do have more maps on the way. We actually have a Mythic map pack coming out early next year. We don't have firm details or a date yet, but we do have one more map pack coming out, and then we do have some maps associated with the actual Recon retail release.

I figured as much, if true.

Focusing? So that is not all?

Wow, completely forgot about Banjo and VP2--though one could argue those prices are due to MS's casual push. Don't get me wrong though, I dearly hope your right--$40 is pretty much perfect--but if it turned out to be full price, I wouldn't be too riled up. If I can dish out $60 for other pure SP experiences (see: Bioshock), I wouldn't really mind doing it for a game that will hopefully be Bungie's freshest SP related project since Halo 1, considering there's no multiplayer to worry about and they're not using a new engine.
Edit: Possible multiplayer, not that long in developement? I think the Eurogamer interview might pretty much ruin all my points--fuck! :lol

You see, we have different issues. IMO, it cold be only 3 hours long, come with a Cat Helmet edition, and as long as it has graphics that can challenge the best of 2009 (the complete package, since gameplay is in good hands) then I would buy it.

...

Eurogamer: Righto. How long is the campaign, compared to the campaign in Halo 3?

Brian Jarrard: It's hard to put a number on it. It's going to represent hours of new campaign gameplay, but it's not a full, entire game like Halo 3. I think we have a lot of value on the disc.

There will be a lot of replayability as well; we have tons of new Achievements, four-player co-op, all the social features we had in Halo 3. It's a standalone disc as well, so you won't have to have Halo 3 to experience Recon. There might be a surprise later that we'll talk about, that might benefit people who have Halo 3, but it's not a requirement.

And I would be punching walls. I would be angrier at Bungie than I ever have been (not-very-angry-at-all upgraded to actually-quite-angry). Releasing the achievement list and mentioning the names of all these maps that are probably in a near-to-finished if not finished state, and then holding them back until the next calendar year at least? Madness. And Halo 3 would die on its knees.

Remind me to never piss you off.

Guys, come on, now. We all know Recon will be a $60 title.

Let's all just assume that, so if it is something else, then it'll be a pleasant surprise.

Wonder what it could be.

Good
-ish
news about the Mythic pack. Knew we wouldn't have to wait that long but it's still a bummer we'll have to wait a couple of months.

If you joined a playlist as party, which is what makes Halo's MM so glamorous, you wouldn't have players randomly away.
:lol I can't remember the last time I've sat down to play Halo without a party. It's not a a personal complaint, for I think it's awesome to go into BTB on Avalanche and mop up kicks recklessly driving around trying to get achievements, but the majority of players less fortunate to have a consistent group.
Furthermore, any game that can fit on a single DVD is a piece of shit that I rather not play. I'm all about the BR now, the Blu-Ray.

If Bungie themselves label Recon as "not a full game like Halo 3" then I really doubt they'll sell it full price.
I'd pay it.

"Early" next year is sorta vague. If something like the 1/9 date is true, that's not too bad, but still kinda eh. If it's something like March, then that's crap.

The thing is that's Bungie's hopes versus Microsoft's plan.

Dehype, brothers!

We need some better questions :S Will Recon use an enhanced version of Halo 3's engine? Seriously, as much as I like Halo 3, the graphics will probably look bad and outdated compared to all other games in Fall 2009.

Good stuff man.
I thought you were the one that you was a bigger Halo fan than a Bungie fan?

Personally, I'm glad they're giving Halo a rest after this. And I'm equally glad that they have just started this project recently so it's only about a year's worth of work. That means the year leading up to now has been spent on brand spanking new stuff :D

Eurogamer: 12 dollars? Just say higher or lower if you like.

Luke Smith: What is this, the Price is Right?

I am a fan of Halo, yes. I say good stuff to the fact we're going to get the map pack a lot earlier than Fall 2009.

Early next year will probably mean before Halo Wars (business wise) and Halo Wars comes out March/April 09?

Mythic next year? That is so disappointing.

Well, with so many games coming out this fall it looks like my copy of Halo 3 is going to be gathering some dust.

Credit goes to Storm (from IRC) for scrutinizing this line from the Eurogamer interview.

I'm speculating that Bungie will continue to provide DLC following Halo 3 Recon's release. More maps. Like Frankie once said, Halo 3 will have a shitload of maps.

I'm actually relieved its not being held until the fall of 09.
Still sucks knowing we are at best 3 full months out from the next mappack, likely more then that.

Can't believe some of you are surprised at the maps not hitting this year, I mean really. :P IT'S A GEARS OF WAR 2 CHRISTMAS!

I think the Achievements being leaked at PAX then being released on Sept 25 is more than enough of a reason to expect them soon.

Im not buying GOW2...fuck MS. GOW2 is probably THE reason the maps arn't shipping this fall. I blame GOW. I was expecting Sept 25, along with the new achievements. Then I was expecting Decemberish, around the same time as the Heroic pack. Halo 3 needs some more maps!

I'll play LBP, Banjo, Left 4 Dead and Sins of a Solar Empire expansion. Fuck GOW

>8Z

oh and rocket race is the shat

The start of next year for new maps? For fucks' sakes.

Time between Halo 3 and Heroic map pack: A bit less than 3 months.

Time between Heroic and Legendary map packs: Almost exactly 4 months.

Let's pretend that the Mythic pack comes out in early January! That would make the wait between Legendary and Mythic nearly 9 months. Oh, and during that time, Legendary maps are only appearing in a few playlists because they aren't free or required. What a load of horseshit.

BUNGIE

MAKE IT UP TO US

STANDOFF HEAVIES... THAT SHIT AIN'T RIGHT

HAVING TO WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR... THAT SHIT AIN'T RIGHT

AVALANCHE EXCLUSIVE PLAYLIST Please

Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaseeeeeeeeeee

Recommend me a playlist in order to find these so I can achieve my achievements. I'm having a tough time finding them. :(

2 separate map packs.

I wonder if mythic is not all 6 rumored maps, but instead a typical 3 map-pack release and then the other 3 release with H3R.
