So do you level up 1 EXP each game you play in (DLC) FFA?

I've been coming in third place some times and still leveling up, not sure if the EXP system is broken and handing things out too easily or that's just how it works.

Argh. Since I won that game which should have given me 7 EXP in total, I've only played tie games of Big Team. :/

I guess I could try another playlist, e.g. the one specifically set up for this.

Remember remember the fifth of November - gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder, treason should ever be forgot.

In FFA, you get EXP for placing in the top half. So if there are 8 people, you can place 4th and still get EXP. If there are 6 or 7, place in the top 3.

I played some matches in the Icy Treats playlist and they were the most frustrating matches I've had in a long time.

Agreed. I got irritated at it and went over to Social Slayer and got my 7 on 7 there instead.

I forgot how much I love this picture. :)

But if nobody likes playing it in the playlist it does show up in, kinda makes you wonder why anyone thinks a dedicated playlist would succeed on its own.

So much for "everyone wants this," hm?

That is some of the poorest logic I have ever seen. The reason people don't like it in other playlists is because it's not what they are looking for in that playlist! If you make a specific snipers playlist, then when I want to play snipers I will go play it, as will other people. But when I'm going to play team slayer or social slayer, I want it to be straight up ar or br starts and the whole array of weapons at my disposal. The reason they hate it is not because it's snipers, it's because someone put peanut butter in my chicken soup. Both are delicious but not together!

On another note, the heavy gametypes suck. It's very simple. You put tons of vehicles AND tons of anti-vehicle weapons on the map, who has the advantage, the vehicle or the anti-vehicle? The anti-vehicle does. There's no point in even having the vehicles on the map with that many anti-vehicle weapons.

I think a better argument about heavies being it de-legitimizes ranked play. Two nights ago we had 3 heavy matches in a row, and it was the kind of experience where you question why you ever liked the game in the first place.

On maps like standoff, a lucky few spawns and a guass hog jumps up +10 kills on the other team - or they just blow up with all the vehicles and its sniper domination time. It's just silly. It turns gameplay into this weird sniper match, where those on foot either die on spawns, hide indoors for long periods of time, or get massive kills with a lazer. 'Whats the point' comes to mind.

The random placement of walls and fusion cores on the heavy maps really add this cheap, 12 year old messing in forge kind of feel to the map and cheapens it further.

I'm mostly at a loss as to why it's in there. I guess it's fun in a social setting, but I've only ever done that on 8vs8 which adds in tons of lag. So that goes particularly horribly, where you usually dont even see the lazers light up and you blow up over and over. It feels like the additional vehicles and crap strewn about causes some additional hitches. It's in these cases where it feels like something that was mostly play tested over a LAN and didnt compensate for the online experience. Just at a loss with them really. They are the new 1-sided VIP.

Thank God I'm not the only one that hates Heavies.

It does seem to get veto'd alot so hopefully its not just we the vocal minority.
I'd really like to see it fully removed from ranked play, but at worst have it pop up as often as those neutral bomb matches.

I'd like heavies if they'd only have one or two lasers on the map. Maybe even have more rocket launchers or missile pods instead.

I'm thinking one laser, two missile pods, two rocket launchers. Make longer respawn times.

At least with missile pods you have a chance to get behind cover or outrun them, and rocket launchers are more of a "I have to stand directly in the path of the vehicle to take it down" type weapon.

I like heavies... its a choice of try to control the vehicles by destroying them, or control them by keeping the anti-vehicle weapons down. Played a few games of it last night and its not that hard to control the anti-vehicle weapon spawns with the vehicles... just a matter of who can get control first.

Dude, I'm so not telling you where I sit. How does it feel that I know who you are and you don't know who I am?!?! :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

First, heavies should never appear on maps like valhalla and Standoff. Right now only Sandtrap and Avalanche are feasible for good games of the Heavy variant. Secondly, as everyone knows, there are too many frickin lasers
Drevil.gif
. I remedied this by only allowing two lasers, one in each base. This grants each team a laser, making it balanced (instead of fighting for random lasers in the middle of the field) and the lasers are also on a 2 minute delayed respawn. Therefore, there is no lasers for 2 minutes in the beginning, allowing for heavy vehicle-based combat, without the fear of getting cheesed immediately.

To offset the lack of lasers I added more rockets. While rockets are still quite effective at destroying vehicles, they require a good deal of skill to take out vehicles from afar. Also I put rockets near the Mongeese. Why? Cause what else are you gonna do with a mongoose on a heavies game? (besides it's fun as hell)

Finally, I added more stickies, plasma pistols, power drains, tripmines. Anti-vehicle stuff without the ridiculous lameness of Lasers.

Oh and the vehicle respawns. Scorpians do NOT need a 45 second respawn (150 seconds). Even WITH lasers those things can be a huge pain to take out.

I duno, its a scary prospect to have a guass hog or a scorpion tank in any slayer - running wild. I'll just cross my fingers that they don't try and save this gave mode and 'fix' it at the detriment of Squad Battle for the sake of extra playlist variety.

just one assholes' opinion.

Then the question becomes, is this any better then just playing default team slayer on these maps? Just seems like a game mode that will only pile on the frustration for the loosing team. Sort of like watching a Saints game where you just want to tear your eye balls out after.....

....

..

.

I do agree with Heavies that it would probably be a little more enjoyable if the number of lasers were reduced. The idea should be to have a big vehicle battle, and not a battle of who can camp the multiple laser spawns better.

I also liked someones idea of making the laser not spawn immediatly...

I'm all for vehicle combat... the vehicles are one of the big parts of Halo multiplayer being different from other multiplayer fps games.

I agree with this. One laser in the center, perhaps on a slightly faster respawn than normal, plus a bigger mix of other anti-vehicle equipment. I realize it's been excised from matchmaking for the jump bug, but the Flare equipment would be interesting in Heavies, for tossing in front of vehicles such as the Scorpion; boarding them would be a lot easier and it would add an interesting layer of tactics to at least temporarily distracting major threats. I really miss that equipment.

Alternately, each team starts with a laser, but only three shots are in each one. A Missile Pod is the object to fight over. Something like that.

The problem is that Gauss Hogs and Scorpion Tanks can't co-exist alongside the other vehicles without requiring the drastic anti-vehicle measures, they just throw everything off. I think everyone just needs to embrace the default loadouts of these maps for ranked team slayer, they work really well and have a level of polish not seen in the heavy variants.
I don't think anyone is recommending we remove large scale vehicle combat from Squad.

I just don't see Gauss Hogs and tanks working in team slayer. I mean they pretty much demolish all the other vehicles so they render them as useless as the lazer does.

Sorry I quit out last night, I just cannot stand Sandtrap Heavies. It was frustrating me to no end.
It's alright, I put the controller down and left the room after they jumped up 60 - 30, I hid in the elephant. I wasn't about to play another loosing round of heavies. But hey, at least Metroid didnt have to suffer through another round of Multi-flag Valhalla!

Dude.

I vetoed the Sand trap game heavies game along with the rest of you guys.

As for that Valhalla game...I actually hit the veto button as soon as I saw the map. Just didn't feel like playing Valhalla, sorry for ruining your entire evening. :D

You are pretty damn good in doing just that. Mr. I dont want to play Valhalla.

I think the bigger issue is the fact that Multi-Flag Valhalla and/or what you and dirtbag play in Halo 3 is what makes your evening. ;)

I do not think you should be making fun of anyone who does not enjoy Heavies, as you jump into to the ghaus hog every freaking time. The people who are on foot do not enjoy the mode as much as you might. And yes playing Valhalla does infact make my night. Sandtrap and all its varients are worthless. Heavies makes it even more worthless.

This actually has nothing to do with Heavies and wasn't my intentions with that remark earlier, but since it went there I'll go with it.

Only reason I enjoy Heavies is for the Gauss Hog and that's it. Nothing else.
Well, maybe some Prowlin' with Ram

Like dirtbag said, Heavies should not be in a ranked environment, but in social, I think it's alright if it pops up once in a while, but not weighted the way it is.

Multi-Flag on Valhalla heavies
I honestly don't mind heavies on Valhalla and not just because of my unconditional love for the map. Some of the extra scenery (the shit on the top of the hill) is embarrassingly strewn about but it's my most tolerable heavies map to the point of prefering it over some other maps in SB
High Ground and Construct
. I think the teleporters add a little something to the map, there are only 2 lasers (maybe a third in the middle but I think those are rockets), and the vehicles aren't overpowered but can still be taken down if you play smart.

Vaaaaaaaaaaaaaalhalla!
