sorry dude, the top ten is reserved exclusively for generic no scopes and 'oh maa gawdd look at how far he threw that stick' and with some generic shitty metal (metalica).Super Johnson said:If you guys are still doing the GAF top 10, I think I might have an interesting submission. There's no real skill involved, but I still think it's an interesting submission.

EazyB said:I have to agree with Blood. Being and ODST would sure feel like a step backwards IMO. But what character would be able to one-up the chief? Maybe some alien but that would bring other issues into the equation. This is why I wanted their next big project not to be set in the Halo universe. We've already played as the most powerful being in that universe and played through the most epic events during that time span. Everything else will feel like merely a sideproject in a universe we've already explored.
A squad-based shooter? I was hoping for Bungie to redefine a new genre, and while I know they are plenty skilled at shooters, IMO 3rd person shooters are practically the same as first person shooters. The only difference is the camera is pulled back a foot. So while this can have minor changes to the game such as seeing your character's animations and peeking around corners, the differences are very little. So while it may've been a pipedream for me to think that Bungie was going to explore, and redefine, a different genre; I'd still be disappointed if it turned out to be another shooter.
I'm sure whatever they're making will be amazing and at a class reached by very few developers, so it's only a matter of how outstanding this experience will be for me.
Really? I don't feel that way at all.EazyB said:A squad-based shooter? I was hoping for Bungie to redefine a new genre, and while I know they are plenty skilled at shooters, IMO 3rd person shooters are practically the same as first person shooters.

Shake Appeal said:EazyB seems to believe that the next Bungie title needs to be on a bigger, bolder, brasher scale than the previous one and that the Halo universe offers nothing that could top Chief/Cortana's Next Big Adventure. Personally I love the idea of exploring smaller, nicher pockets of the fiction. It doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing fate-of-the-galaxy sci-fi epic for me to be happy. The idea of having a more personal, intimate shooter (first or third person) on a human world fighting the Flood or the first Covenant invaders sounds just swell to me. In fact I would be more excited for that than anything but a Halo RPG of some kind (which I would love, but have no hope of seeing).

you play one (or all) of the pelican pilots that flys the chief to his mission and pics him up later. in between you could do some missions. think about it, could be pretty awesome.
drop the chief at the beach (the silent.., halo 1) then do some dogfights, pick the chief up...
that actually sounds pretty fun. maybe not a pure survival horror but definitely not a kill everything then go to the next room kind of gameShake Appeal said:Shake's ideal 'Superintendent' game: prior to first contact with the Covenant and the SPARTAN program etc. there was a Flood outbreak on some outworld/prison colony/pirate world that ONI subsequently hushed up. You play an ONI agent(s)/ODST investigating the outbreak and end up stranded in a Flood-infested urban environment overseen by a demented/rampant AI. How such an outbreak might occur I leave in the hands of more capable and knowledgeable fiction ninjas. In the original trilogy you play an eight foot supersoldier protected by shielding and armour, and the Flood are still intimidating at times. Let's see how they appear up close to a few unprepared human soldiers.
Gritty, gloomy Halo survival horror yes please.
Dirtbag 504 said:So, assuming this game is as far along as we've been told and might see a release sooner then expected. Knowing how little we know (next to nothing), what do you guys think in terms of release dates. I guess my gut says holiday 09 sometime. I know MS was always keen on the idea of Gears / Halo / Gears / Halo... for holiday releases. Seems like it fits in with MS's strategy to show a game only about a year from its release.
I wonder if this game is far along enough (and MS is crazy enough) to put this puppy out in February 09 and battle killzone.
I say "MS is crazy enough" because:
A). I don't think you rush a bungie release - if of course this date would rush it.
B). I don't know if that is significant time to get the advertising / game previews / hype train in full swing.

What's so different about 3rd person and first person? I feel Halo had the formula perfected, 1st person for the majority of on-foot shooting and third person for select weapons and vehicles. I never felt like I wanted the camera pulled back when using the BR and in 3rd person shooters the camera always goes 1st person when scoped anyways.TDG said:Really? I don't feel that way at all.
I'd be really pumped by a ODST squad based shooter. I think Bungie could do some really interesting stuff with the fairly untested genre.
Sheild regeneration was initially a Bungie invention and ever since it's been adopted by some of the biggest shooting franchises. COD1 switched to regen when it went to COD2 and Gears (developed by a huge PC developer) decided that was the way to go as well. It would feel very archaic to go back to a health pack system. And to say it's more realistic is laughable. Unless I have to go to a medic, have surgery, and do rehab for a months; it's not going to be realistic. And IMO the regen is the best formula for gameplay.Ramirez said:If they're going for a more realistic approach, then the whole shield regeneration thing kind of kills the mood in that department of shooters.![]()
I know I came off that way, but I personally don't care much for another epic story ala-Halo 2/3. I've already ranted about my disappointments about the story. It felt sterile and there was almost no humanistic qualities. It felt like a forgettable sci-fi flick. But I know why they went that direction as opposed to the deeper story of Halo 2, the masses just want dem explosions and nothing else. I would be happy if they just forgot about that demographic but it doesn't make sense to do so. What they're left with is trying to squeeze in a flashy side-story. I'd love to be proven wrong.Shake Appeal said:EazyB seems to believe that the next Bungie title needs to be on a bigger, bolder, brasher scale than the previous one and that the Halo universe offers nothing that could top Chief/Cortana's Next Big Adventure.
