Wow, and all this time I thought I was special for knowing how to get into the Phantom and fly away on The Covenant.

Didn't know you could fly the damn thing. 0_o

Where did this picture come from?

Larger pic if available please :D

(Fan art. Amazing fan art. Check his other stuff too - hit the 'Back' button at the bottom of the page.)

And voc - HOLD THE PEPPER was inspired. :lol :lol

Not much of a story to go with it, but last night a friend and I were playing Rocket Race since it will soon be leaving our beloved matchmaking. Anyway, we ended up having one of our most epic, unexpected moments ever. It was good enough to make me create a Gamevee account just to grab the video. :lol

It's a shame the quality isn't a little better, but you'll get the gist: we flew across the entire width of Standoff to steal a point right out from under Green's noses.

:lol Thats crazy. God bless the Halo 3 Theatre. Without it, shit like this would only ever be a story you told, it would never be seen, and my days in work would be far less interesting :D

Ugh it ws in response to the mod on you're boards.

Also don't blame me.

Why are you responding to a mod on their boards here?

Mcfly?

Indeed, it's silly. Those guys are bastards.
I was kind of going for the, 'why not go to the source' angle. I personally can't stomach posting on bnet at all, and it's got very little (if anything at all) to do with the mods. My only knock on the mods at bnet would be: 'how did you let a forum get so bad?' But I'm not sure that even a mod as feared as Bishop could tame those twelve year olds that post at bnet.

Hey guys, voc has just published his write-up on Assembly over at the Ascendant Justice Blog. I think that it turned out really well and it goes a long way towards helping me get a grasp on this map that I may not be able to play again for a while.

Also, he drew an awesome sketch that shows a view from above the map. It really helps those who didn't (and did) play it to get a grasp on its layout.

Awesome.

I'm of the opinion that more developers need to just give in and start imitating what bungie does in the multiplayer space (at least in terms of functionality). You would have thought playlists and matchmaking would be industry standard by now (really by 3-4 years ago) but that still isn't the case. I have this feeling that Bungie and IW are going to tango with multiplayer features / options in the coming future.

I keep forgetting this but Luke and Shiska kept using Magnums during the Recon matches. Any particular reason why they would do that? Maybe AU2 has something to do with it??

When your grenade play has you often referred to as a "heartbreaking visionary," having a headshot-capable starting sidearm is divine.

I see where you're coming from.
I don't think such eloquent use of the English language was necessary there though.
;)

Great point! This is why in my opinion The Orange Box failed on Xbox Live. Orange Box with Halo 3's multiplayer set up would have been downright awesome. I'm hoping that Epic learned from their mistakes in Gears 1 and will have the "Halo System" in place for Gears 2.

I think I've heard it said multiple times that Epic "just ran out of time," with Gears 1. Honestly, the awful menus and party system are probably what kept me from enjoying Gears 1 as much as I wanted to. So, yeah, here's hoping they replicate and build on what Halo has been doing since 2004.

Yup. Gears had great gameplay but their matchmaking system ruined it for me. I played it a lot, but finally stopped due to that. Also, the people I played with only played Ranked games and we had to constantly circumvent Epic's stupid "you can't team up with friends in ranked matches" rules.

Valhalla and Avalanche are very good maps, but the other big battle maps do not hold any specific qualities to make them on par with the likes of Headlong, Waterworks, Relic, or Terminal.

In addition to Valhalla and Avalanche I also enjoy Sandtrap, but nothing can touch Headlong, Waterworks, or Terminal in my opinion. Especially sweet sweet Headlong.

I personally can't stand Sandtrap. I think it's a really poor BTB map with terribly used space in the middle. The narrow hallway sections under blue base are particularly blah also. I've rarely enjoyed playing much of anything on Sandtrap... those times are usually referred to as rocket race.

Rat's nest is another map that is hit and miss for me. Flag matches go way too fast and the general map flow just seems so random given the left / right / or middle divided nature of approach. I've enjoyed TS matches on it though, and there have been a handful of CTF games that have been worth a shit. It's just a rather awkward map in how it plays out.

I personally like Sandtrap for CTF and its an ok map for slayer and territories. Rats Nest can be fun (sometimes), but mostly its frustrating to play on any gametype. Especially in flag or bomb when the opposing team puts vehicles on top of the flag capture or bomb plant point, and then when its blown up, they put another one on it.

Sandtrap makes for some epic 2-flag games as well as some intense BTB Slayer. If you're not into vehicles then Sandtrap is not your map to be sure.

In this skybox, the Scarab’s carapace emerges from a gargantuan facility into what appears to be the immense bowels of High Charity. Against the brightly lit sea of coolant, the vehicle’s chassis is transported across a familiar looking gravity bridge to a conductor just above the map itself. It is here where the Scarab is first powered, lighting up as though it has been brought to life. It is then carried down the conveyor to the far side of the chasm and into a separate housing facility, presumably to be finished and sent into battle.

Good grief. You see this happening on the map?

I know I mentioned this when I was in a party with you guys a while back, but I wasn't able to get a definite answer... And the problem's still there. :/

Game's saying I'm restricted from plaing user-created content, can't view films, screenshots--nothin'. Nothin' bad's been on my fileshare, the game disc seems fine, problem started around the time my Bungie Pro subscription ended, iirc.

What's goin' on? Wanna watch my films. :(

If I play campaign on co-op, can I still get the achievemnets for getting "x many points on y level"?
Yes. I did it with my friend for his achievements (and mine). We each just held back while the other took all the kills. It was fun!

Sandtrap is a glorious map as long as it's not a ridiculous Ghost-flooded Covie game. It also remains the only map with default choppers.
