whoa, this whole new map pack thing other than Assembly is all assuming that this Achievement List is real right?

If those achievements are indeed real, going by the (in the description) "After 9/25/08" achievement, we should get at least three of those new maps this month.
It would be a cool surprise anniversary release.

So, with the next map pack, Halo 3 will officially have 1 more map than Halo 2. :o

  1. Construct
  2. Epitaph
  3. Guardian
  4. High Ground
  5. Isolation
  6. Last Resort
  7. Narrows
  8. Sandtrap
  9. Snowbound
  10. The Pit
  11. Valhalla
  12. Foundry
  13. Rat's Nest
  14. Standoff
  15. Avalanche
  16. Blackout
  17. Ghost Town
  18. Cold Storage
  19. Assembly
  20. Citadel
  21. Heretic
  22. Longshore
  23. Orbital
  24. Sandbox

Damn.

Halo 2

  1. Ascension
  2. Beaver Creek
  3. Burial Mounds
  4. Coagulation
  5. Colossus
  6. Foundation
  7. Headlong
  8. Ivory Tower
  9. Lockout
  10. Midship
  11. Waterworks
  12. Zanzibar
  13. Backwash
  14. Containment
  15. Elongation
  16. Gemini
  17. Relic
  18. Sanctuary
  19. Terminal
  20. Turf
  21. Warlock
  22. Desolation
  23. Tombstone

I'd imagine these are the last maps bungie will be doing for halo 3 (The mythic disk's rumored release probably indicates this as well).

Also, thanks to foundry and what looks to be sandbox, I'd imagine we'll get a bunch more maps that are soon to appear in matchmaking.
You also forgot to list Epilogue, Sandtarp, and Boundless (I forget what the snow bound map was called, was this right? :lol )

I really doubt that those achievements were shopped. Whether or not that information was place holder, or even using final names is up for debate.

Yeah, I remember this pic from before Halo 3 came out, I asked someone where it was at, they said it was on the Zune (I have the Halo one) and it wasn't :\ The only place I've seen it was on AJ I think.. Someone may have used it as an avatar here as well.

They ARE REAL. No assuming. Mods at Bungie.net who went to PAX said they saw it themselves, though the Bungie folks weren't too happy about it when they saw kids going through the list of new achievements, they would turn off the monitor on them. Sure, mods don't work at Bungie, but they wouldn't lie on the forums they are moderating like this.

As a cautionary note, I do not work for Bungie, I am just a community member like the rest of you. But I was at PAX. I saw the "achievements" incident go down, and I saw what it took to reach them. It was no accident; at the end of the day, as Bungie and PAX were shutting down for the day, a PAX visitor sat down at a monitor and deliberately started clicking through to reach achievements, taking advantage of the distractions. Bungie employees were cleaning up for the day and had their backs turned, which is the only reason that the achievements were up for as long as they were. As soon as they noticed, they came over and turned off the television. The same PAX visitor who clicked through to view the achievements had also taken some photographs, and asked a Bungie employee if he could post them. The Bungie employee asked this person not to post them, and the person who originally looked at the achievements has, so far, held true to their promise and neither posted nor discussed the achievements.

What a lameo.

I understand that Bungie did want people to see these things, but in the end it's their own fault. To blame the fans for digging this stuff up and posting it is just dumb. If you have stuff to hide, make sure you hide it well.

I hope these 6 new maps aren't the end. Even if there's a slow period between this next release and any other after it I'd be happy. Desolation and Tombstone were released nearly two years after the H2 map pack disc and its new 5 maps hit store shelves. I love those maps (and I wish we'd get them in H3).

Any new maps after a year or two would be nothing but a plus in my book.

Where have they been blaming anyone? They gave the OK for the stuff to be put back up on Bungie.net.

My post was more an argument against the mod post on bungie.net, not necessarily aimed at Bungie themselves.

Halo 2 had great mid-size maps. I think Halo 3 has the BTB map crown at this point, with Valhalla, Avalanche, Rat's Nest, Standoff and Last Resort.

Assembly will be beloved.

Hmm... I think I agree.

I, for the most part, have generally agreed with the consensus (Halo 2 maps >> Halo 3 maps) but the more that I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion that Halo 3's BTB maps smoke Halo 2's BTB maps. Zanzibar was goddamn amazing, but we got that one back. And Headlong was awesome too. But Waterworks and the rest were awful to play on, in my opinion.

But yeah, Halo 2's mid-size maps are untouchable. Ivory Tower <3<3

Maybe by the time of your next game you guys (bungie) will be the underdogs again and we can all root for bungie instead of listening to this broken record blame game. At least people won't have the previous game to compare the sequel with for this new IP.

GAWD!

I wouldnt count on it. MS owns the IP now, so it's entirely possible that they may release some maps on their own... but I have a gut feeling that this is it on bungie made maps.

I think Bungie will support Halo 3 until their next Halo game.

when the new map pack comes out i hope they make the legendary pack free. its about time they get implemented into proper matchmaking

also between burial mounds and sandtrap i'm not so sure bungie should make desert maps

Both awesome maps for certain gametypes (BM spawns suck though). Some of the best atmospheres of any of the Halo maps as well.

And Sanctuary was a boring. Nowhere near as good as Midship, Ivory Tower, or Lockout. In fact, Desolation, minus the overshields, was a better map (the snipers ruined Sanctuary for me).

Hey guys, voc has just published his write-up on Assembly over at the Ascendant Justice Blog. I think that it turned out really well and it goes a long way towards helping me get a grasp on this map that I may not be able to play again for a while.

Also, he drew an awesome sketch that shows a view from above the map. It really helps those who didn't (and did) play it to get a grasp on its layout.

There are no words.

Didn't realize I was experiencing as much awesomeness as I thought.

And now I know where the Rockets are, finally! ... :(

So, the maps like Orbital, Heretic, etc. have been confirmed? Orbital sounds like the Moonbase Alpha they spoke of before. I figure a space station level, similar to Elongation...

I don't agree. Valhalla and Avalanche are very good maps, but the other big battle maps do not hold any specific qualities to make them on par with the likes of Headlong, Waterworks, Relic, or Terminal.

Last Resort -- I do consider this map perfect for 6 vs. 6, but for 8 vs. 8 it felt a little crammed. Possibly if they played more 1 CTF than Slayer on it in Ranked BTB, it would be a better comparison.

Standoff is a terrible Ranked BTB map. Again, I think it would be excellent for 6 vs. 6 - I suppose we'll find out.

Walshy vs Bungie @ PAX Video: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/Pj5WFTkJPFY.html

lol,

Luke(I think?): I guess that means I'm not good enough to be on Instinct.
Walshy: True... though you could be on Final Boss, that's the thing... good enough to be on Final Boss.

HAHAHAHA Metroid and Nutter are in the video at 0:46 and 0:47 in the back.

EDIT: Just saw Eazy there, too, a couple seconds after, but only for a split second. :P

Too bad no one took the video of Luke and Shishka destroying Walshy. :(

Edit: You guys are clearly better when you don't know that you are playing Walshy. The pressure got to you when you did know! :D

Well, I disagree, but it will never be settled. I loved - loved - Waterworks and want it back, but Bungie ruled it out.

There'a different mix of map types in each game. But for the comparables, Avalanche >> Containment, Valhalla >> Coagulation jumps to mind. I can't think of any map similar to Rat's Nest in Halo 2, which might be why I love it so. Standoff will work very well in the new 6 v 6 playlist, as you said it's too small for 8 v 8 (except for Slayer, IMO). Really, my only wish is for another one-sided BTB map; we only have Last Resort. But I don't see that happening.

Opinions, and all that.

Nutter and I are Internet stars, now.

I'm sure Luke still has his fond memories.

I keep forgetting this but Luke and Shiska kept using Magnums during the Recon matches. Any particular reason why they would do that? Maybe AU2 has something to do with it??

It was too ugly to post, even with an M for mature. Such senseless slaughter.

Magnum secondaries on AR starts now, IIRC.

The Veranda (hold the pepper) !!!:lol :lol :lol :lol

Awesome.

EDIT: That's like 3 awesomes. TRIPLE KILL!

I enjoy your stories, Ghaleon. I have a (shorter, picture-less) multiplayer story of my own:

Was playing 3v3 slayer on standoff. I'm outside my base, and I hear a warthog barreling towards me. I initially assume I'm fucked, but then I see that the guy is driving it by himself - no gunner (???).

So I dodge his splatter attempt as he crashes into the front wall of our base. He hops out of the hog. I try to be clever by hopping into the gun slot - I intended to kill him with his own hog's gun. ...but I fucked up and actually hopped into the passenger seat :(

So I'm sitting there helpless, and the guy was carrying a brute shot of all weapons, and starts wailing on the hog - it starts barrel rolling, and I'm taking big hits.

I manage to hop out of the hog before dying, and immediately start backing up. Here's where things get interesting. The warthog is now between the two of us, still turning end over end in my direction, and I'm actually managing to use the vehicle I was in a moment before as mobile cover. He keeps shooting at me and hitting the hog, and I keep using the airborne hog as protection long enough for my shield to recharge - backing up and strafing in a manner to keep it between the two of us at all times.

The story ends anti-climactically...
His teammate BRs me down from across the map
, but it was an awesome moment nonetheless.

It's like you said a few weeks ago - they don't happen every match, but you occasionally run into those "Halo Moments" that set it apart from other titles. In the span of like 8 seconds, he's in the hog, then I'm in it, he's shooting at his own vehicle, I'm running away... it was awesome.

EDIT: WTFFF put your story back up.

I don't have a blow-by-blow of this moment, but in addition to the story I just told above, I also had my single best/most perfect bubble shield drop in a game, tonight.

It was 3v3 shotty snipers on last resort. I was out in the open and realized all 3 enemies had sightlines on me. The MOMENT I dropped the bubble, three sniper shots went off directly at me. It was amazing. I managed to use the cover of the shield to pop out and kill two of them, too.

Thanks for all of the kind comments about the article. I think the map is going to be one of their best, particularly during two-sided objective matches.

I can't attest for what their specific reasons are for using it, but Assembly has some long lines of sight and the Bungie guys consistently held the upper level walkways rather than dropping below into the map's basin. This tells me that the Magnum would have better overall worth than the MA5C while the player moved atop the walkways. Down below it's a different story.

At any rate, Cocop, Jironimo and myself went cow-tipping tonight. No, not in any traditional way - we were tipping big cows. Huge ones. This may have been done by others, but I have yet to see it.

As you can see, we cleared out the AA-Wraiths and eliminated all enemies. Then we pushed the two Phantoms into the main entrance of the last tower.
