HOly fuck, i take back what I said many pages back about this game.

The first few levels were meh, but jesus christ, bidness PICKED UP on Level 4. The vehicles.. the big damn spider bot, me dying like 15 times before i figured out what to do. Hell that fight was just all kinds of WIN. Now I can't wait to keep playing which is a lot different feeling than I had for the first couple of levels.

Btw, I still think the graphics are 'meh' with the aliasing all over the place, but the game's definately got a punch in the gameplay department.

Oh and another complaint.. i wish we'd just get the fuck on with the story, because Cortana giving me flashbacks and repeating the same lines I've heard before is getting really fucking annoying.

Yep, those two are amazing. I can't even imagine how you take out the
dual scarabs
with just one person. The technique my partner and I used should work well if we speed run it ever. :D

I did it on normal like this:
I piloted the hornet, and flew to the deck of the scarab, jumped out and landed...then destroyed the core. Now the vehicle would fall off..so i'd jump off, get in the hornet and repeated for the second scarab

From the main blade, there's a button right above the "launch game" disk tray icon. It should say something about exclusive content. Click on that, there's a seperate button for a theme and gamerpic. A movie is supposed to go up today, with another one tomorrow, as well, but clicking on the button doesn't do anything just yet.

Mine just says "XBOX LIVE" :(

Sorry, you missed my edit. I believe that planet is Tau Ceti IV, which the spaceship Marathon is orbiting around.

That's true, it is just a theory, but all the insinuation....all for naught? I'd wager I have a more substantial argument than you do, based on comments from Alex Seropian.

What comments are those? Everything so far could simply be considered as a reference for fans to
marathon
and nothing more.

Every time I tried I didn't think to get back in the vehicle. I just left it there and it got incinerated. That might work better.

I hate how the AI takes the vehicles.

You have to use the sniper rifle/beam rifle.

On a side note, my hate is strong for the 8th level. Which is reaffirmed by how awesome levels 6 and 7 were.

Edit about the 1 notable encounter in level 7
You can blow off the back of the Scarab to reveal the power core. You do not need to get out of the hornet in order to blow up the Scarabs

Pretty much overkill.

Ignore the Scarabs and take out the Banshees. Next, strafe around one scarab firing missiles at the legs until it stops. Fire 3 missiles at it's ass to expose the power core, then Luke Skywalker that sucker. Rinse, repeat.

I got a question about creating a Forge map for a modified Assault Gametype.

I made a new Gametype called HALOSTRIKE, which is basically CounterStrike in Halo.

Now I'm modifying the Pit for this gametype. I've taken out all weapons/scenery, and popped in my own weapons placement (all human weapons).

Now, I want to make it "one-way" as in one set of attackers and defenders. I've set this in the GameType options. Now in Forge, I hit start, and go to "change GameType" and choose "Assault". So I can now see the bomb spawns and targets. But I remove one set, because it's one sided. And on the other set I explicitly state that it is for "Attackers" only. And put "Defenders only" on all the targets in the map.

Yet when I save, and play it with the HALOSTRIKE gametype, those bomb spawns I removed suddenly appear back again!

Also, even though I explicitly stated the spawn circle area for attackers and defenders, I still get attackers spawning in the opposite area.

Anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions?

Yeah on the Small Unite to Fight banner ad not the BIG one.

One Gamerpic, and an AWESOME theme.

Yeah, you have to press A on the Unite To Fight ad that sometimes appears on the Marketplace blade. (edit: beaten, but I seem to remember getting it on the big one, but I'm also tired so maybe that wasn't it)

Ah, thanks guys! I kept going to the big pic - I'll try the small one...

My way is so much more fun though! Freaking emergency landings!

Haha, whatever ices your drink. Either way,
the Scarabs
were the funnest part of the game for me, and I really appreciate that in both scenes, there were multiple solutions.

If MC is
the main character of Marathon, does that mean that his story is really over? I took the ending to mean that there'd be a new Master Chief series, not about Halos at all. But if his storyline post-freeze is already written out, then the series is really dead. :(

Played against someone in a ranked team slayer match that used the good 'ol standby button on his router to win :( That shit RUINED Halo 2 - there's nothing Bungie could have done to prevent it?

It was -CLASSIC- standby, so I know it wasn't lag. No enemy visible anywhere near me, but my shields drained and then I died. Then I stayed dead and didn't respawn for quite a while. When the game finally started back up on my end the enemy's score jumped by like ~5.

In the post-game lobby even his own teammates were calling him a douche, so I think they knew he was doing it too.

Edit: I can link to the exact game in my Bungie profile - is there some Bungie hotline I can use and they could look at that round with some analytics to verify what happened and get him banned?

Yeah I'm about done with matchmaking already. Host advantage is still there and nothing pisses me off more. The spawn points are retarted. I can't count how many times I spawn in front of an enemy or spawn above the entire other team and get raped. And I am sick of shotty snipers.

It isn't. The people here talking about Marathon aren't taking into account all of its details.
Yes, the main character of Marathon starts out on a derelict spaceship floating around a planet, but it's not at all like the Chief's ship. In Marathon, the ship isn't broken in half like at the end of Halo 3, plus it has three shipboard AIs, instead of just Cortana. There are similiarities, but they aren't as connecting as people are making them out to be.

Yes, it's possible. But it's not a certainty.

Does anyone know what the IWOBYD skull does?

Also, who's using the elites for MP? I might be crazy, but They seem to die more then the spartan's. I heard that the hit detection is almost the same, how close of a percentage is it?

apparently bungie has some system that will detect habitual connection-droppers, prevent them from hosting, and finally match them only with other connection-droppers. this will presumably take some time to work, and it won't eliminate individual cases of standby cheating, but it should manage to filter out the real bastards.

WOW quoted for ULTRA truth. I'm not against shotty snipers in theory - it's a nice occasional game type to break up the standard slayer matches. BUT IT COMES UP SO GODDAMN OFTEN. I would say probably 50% of my recent team slayer matches have been shotty sniper.

Once, shotty sniper on the pit came up and ALL EIGHT players vetoed it. So what do we get instead? Shotty Sniper on High Ground. Great.

It would be cool if they were somehow connected.

I agree that the number of appearances of Shotty Snipers needs to be toned down considerably, especially in Team Slayer.

You are definitely correct, but I can see some of the little technicalities (and they are little) being completely whitewashed if they continue Marathon. And as far as the AI thing, nothing a little rewrite won't fix.

The coincidences are just too great. Unless Bungie just likes that both series have striking similarities.

Master Chief in a Marathon remake? Would that be alright? Fine with me. :D

Story of my life. I've had it thrice in a row. Cool on occasion, not cool every match.

I've heard a lot about the Halo matchmaking "learning" over time - learning who the good hosts are, etc. But can it learn from Veto counts? IE the stuff that never ever gets vetoed (Guardian?) would start coming up with more frequency, while the stuff that gets veto'd constantly shows up less?

Fake Edit: Also, you owe me a steak dinner.

Yes, if the main character in Marathon is in fact John 117 then it's clear some events have occurred between the ending of Halo 3 and the beginning of Marathon. For one thing, it's a couple hundred years later.

Since he's not on the same broken ship as at the end of Halo 3, any number of unlimited possibilities could have happened in those intervening years.

A simple example is that he was picked up by some future civilization and held in Cryo for an unknown amount of time. However, that's just one of the possibilities. He could have been awakened and gone on countless adventures before Marathon.

Regardless, there's always been links between Marathon and Halo, and I think it's obvious from the ending that Bungie was hinting that the hero from Marathon is also the Master Chief.

The beginning of Aliens comes to mind.

You know, I wonder if they are planning to remake
Marathon but within the Halo universe. Some concepts and ideas would obviously not be able to cross over but the Marathon series at its core would be the basis for the next three games.

What is this?

A flaming Hayabusa helmet? Is this seriously unlockable?

I know about the Hayabusa helmet itself being unlockable, but there's a version of it that spews fire from the top?

I think it's likely that somewhere down the line Bungie will make one "connecting" game. Then we'll have a Halo trilogy, a Marathon Trilogy, and one connecting game, for a gigantic seven-game saga. Would tie things up very symmetrically.

so.......
Roket Race is freaking awesome! :lol
we fired it up after some ranked games just to have a first look before we call it a night,
and next thing you know we spend 2 hours laughing and running and shooting and stealing each other's quads. :D

I thing everybody must try it :D

It [the veto] is not a dynamic, learning, automated process, as far as I know. I'm pretty sure we're taking that veto information and collecting it to gauge and make changes to the playlists going forward. Things will continue to be tweaked, changed and adjusted in all of the hoppers, and soon.

Speaking for someone who beat the game on Normal, and now moving to Heroic, it's a totally different game. There isn't really much strategy involved in Normal, just move forward and shoot. On Heroic, I can understand why they say this is the difficulty you should start out at.

So far I just finished
rescuing Sarge
and it was a nerve racking level to say the least. I actually felt like the hunted and not the hunter. I was constantly watching my back, using my binoculars to zoom in on the area for potential snipers (and boy did I not see a few of them before they headshot me). Using cover is a must, also is tricking the enemy sometimes while a sniper shot me, instead of going at him head on, I would shoot on one side, then move over to some new area hidden, and keep shooting.

Anyone playing on Normal is missing a shitload of gameplay.

Well my copy STILL hasn't arrived yet even though it's been in Maryland since Monday night (I live in Northern VA). So I biked down to the local Blockbuster who suprisingly had a ton of copies for rent. (I guess everyone bought it instead of renting?)

Anyway, just beat the 1st mission on Legendary. Is it just me or does
the Arbiter
not do jack shit to help you out? I swear I took on the entire level solo, and the only help I got was at the end after
rescuing Sarge
.

Also, what's up with the voice actor change for the
Prophet of Truth
? The voice in Halo 2 was absolutely PERFECT, it was so evil and cruel (recall when he dismissed without hesitation his fellow prophet who was attacked by the Flood in Halo 2). This new voice sounds like some bad B-movie villain. :(

I disagree on one thing
The Arbiter has helped me out numerous times, I noticed that when there is a huge battle going on he helps a lot, however if there are a few stragglers he sits back.

So I haven't played Rocket Race, yet. Who's up for it? We'll need eight to ten people.

Anyone want to get a game going?

Finished Level 8. You guys are a bunch of pansies who complained about it  It's nowhere near as bad as the library--at least with my sword, brute shot, and flamethrower.

And now...final mission. HOLY SHIT.

HALO!

My skin just tingled from the snow and ghostly music.! MY BELOVED SNOW. Man I missed your sexy voice Cortana.

I can't right now (damn G/F) but every time Rocket Race is brought up I feel its my responsibility to point out how AWESOMELY fun it is.

It's the biggest surprise of Halo 3 for me, so far. Whenever I'm not playing Rocket Race, I'm thinking about Rocket Race... Edit: And thinking of ways to IMPROVE rocket race via forge + custom games (low grav maybe?)
