Thanks for the reply, though apparently I've filled your box. Not in a sexual way.

No Worries.

But like I said, go through the game.

I mentioned I was burnt out by that point, so you may have a different opinion on that level.

The sound really is terrible. Like, I don't-want-to-play-it terrible. None of the ~10 reviews I read for the TV ever mentioned sound problems.

Monkey nuts. Time to dig around. The wife is going to just LOVE this one.

I hear the Spherex Xbox 5.1 Speakers are great bang for their buck. I know that in Canada they're about $200 max nowadays so I figure it's cheaper down in the States. Reviewers were saying they were a steal at $500+.

Try a headset if you have one of those. Cheaper than a Surround Sound set in any case.

The only thing I think the game is lacking is a sprint button after having played CoD4. I think it's more important to be able to sprint in Halo with the size of the maps. Sure there are vehicles but half the time some other dick has taken off with your transport honking at you as they leave and you're left trudging through pig shit for halfway of the map. If it would hurt the dynamics of a Halo firefight limit it to a couple of sprints per kill so you can still get to where you want to get at a speed you'd like to get there but you're not disrupting the Halo feel too much until you get another kill. I don't know if that would work but I'm missing a sprint button. :( I seem to remember a rumour back when Halo 2 was coming out about a sprint feature but that never came to fruition. :( :(
Glad I'm not the only one, although I've been wanting that sprint button ever since Gears of War. Kind of annoying when you happen to be in the open for a while after no one's in sight, and you can't move fast enough to hide behind cover when suddenly someone's pointing a laser at you.

Personally I think that a sprint with fatigue wouldn't hurt the gameplay all that much.

Keith Olbermann will be talking about Halo 3 on his show in a couple minutes, MSNBC. He's apparently going to mention the disc scratching problems too. heh

Does anyone know the requirements for unlocking armour? It seems you start off with the CQB, and I assume I unlocked the EVA by
Killing a banshee with a spartan laser
(Note: Doesn't spoil anything, but some people here are information purists).

Yeah, I just want the Samurai armour. :D

That's the first thing I thought when I saw your reply.

Usually when I play a game, any game, I'm burnt out after 3 hours or so and get bored with it. I don't know, I'll make my own judgements tomorrow, but I wouldn't be suprised that after the initial shock and awe you'd be going through the motions later on.

During replays, is their a way to fast forward quicker than just using the Right Trigger? Fast forwarding in a 28min campaign vid is taking a might long time. I don't believe there is but confirmation would be great. Thanks!

I want to play more online games but I'm worried about spoilers. Just finished the sixth mission now.

Welp, these excessive check points finally fucked me.

I got one just as I began tumbling over a cliff in a Mongoose about 20 minutes into level 4. Never, ever had a bad checkpoint like that in the previous games.

Well, played about 20 mins. Halo 2.5 confirmed.

What a disappointment. This is Microsoft's Juggernaut and we didn't even get something as beautiful as Bioshock or even close.

I sure hope Bungies next 360 game looks a lot better than this. New engine please.

Hey, if that happens, don't just power off the box. If H3 (and H2, for that matter) detects you dying within a few seconds of a checkpoint something like 4-5 times in a row, it'll step back to an earlier checkpoint as a fallback.

It's a complex system, and it does fail sometimes, but it tries to be graceful when it does.

I haven't had that happen in Halo 3, but it happened to me a few times in Halo 2. It was quite frustrating.

The funny thing is that I've been hearing people complain all night about there not being enough checkpoints during battles.

I've played through 1.5 levels so far (then wife took over the TV). The jungle... is wow. It's awesome. I'm not feeling the second level so much... It's getting pretty boring. Maybe that's because I miss the lush jungle.

The game is Halo, that's for sure. I'm surprised at how noob unfriendly it is! I'm playing on Heroic and have died numerous times throughout the first 2 levels.

A+ Bungie

this rules

got three friends ready to go

one hasn't used his 360 in awhile

so he doesn't have the stupid tiny live update

and live is hosed

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

If you die several times in a row at a checkpoint - I think the number is five - within a few seconds of spawning the game will revert back to the checkpoint before that one.

I'll try headphones plugged into the TV.

Wow, are people playing the same game as me? I reckon the first level is LUSH. Awesome lighting, water effects, crazy particle and smoke effects going off everywhere and that's in a massive outdoor environment vs Bioshocks confined spaces.

I think for the scale of the game it's incredible looking, I absolutely love it.

Learn something new everyday. Actually, even anything, I find that there are two few checkpoints and they don't always register. If I approach an encounter differently I'll tend to get a checkpoint quicker. I guess the system is based on how many kills you get in a particular encounter?

OK I beat it this morning loved every minute of it. Best Campaign out of the three.
I have a STORY Question though I just didn't catch/understand!
I really want to ask this soo could someone TELL me how to use spoiler tags. I looked at the OP and couldn't find anything

20 minutes? Jesus, man, give it a chance.

Come back once you've actually got past the controller configuration. :lol

Ok, I'm having screen tearing while playing 2 player versus on Epitaph. I tried it on Isolation but didn't notice anything as significant as Epitaph.

Anyone else getting this? Look at the top part of the top half. I get it when I spin around in circles.

How are your computer speakers? A $2 adapter will get you setup to play on them.

Just got done playing through the Campaign. Fan service all the way at the end or what? :D Sooooo glad I did it by myself instead of co-op first. Now I can enjoy co-op with couple of buddies! Some multiplayer before that though. :)

Holeeeeee crap at some of the truly incredible setpieces and sound design. With volume cranked and surround, I feel like I really have been in a sci-fi war after taking on the Mission 4
anti-air guns, Scarab
, and
giant cannon
all one after the other.

Next mission I'm apparently about to be meeting some
Flood
that just literally crashed the party.

Campaign?

yeah, after i've already started one. it only gives the option to continue.

i guess i solved it accidentally by going into the campaign lobby and switching the difficulty, which let me delete my save in order to start a new one. annoying attempt to simplify things though.

Same thing happened to me. On the 4th restart, I held the RB button and held the left stick in the opposite direction and luckily, I jumped off the 'goose and managed to stay on the edge of the cliff while my poor brokeback passenger plummeted to his doom.

One game has really tight little rooms with with a few enemies at a time whilst the other game has very large outdoor areas with a lot of enemies and AI interacting with each other. Of course one isn't going to look as pretty as the other. Also, it's Halo with Halo art direction and Halo gameplay. I'm not sure what people expect other than another Halo game.

I'd rather them work on balancing and tuning the game than a new engine!

That's exactly how I felt for pretty much the entire game. It seemed like Bungie collectively asked themselves "what do the fans want? Let's give it to them. The most awesome stuff we can think of, let's do it."

Campaign spoilers:
Cortana's "there's two of us in here now... remember?" line brought tears to my eyes. As well as the Assault on the Control Room remake. And the terminal in the AotCR room? Nostalgia x20. There are so many tiny things that let you know that Bungie was totally thinking of the fans.

They certainly don't want the rings to fire! The point of the Halos is to eradicate all life, thereby starving the Flood. And just like us, they don't want to die. That's why they temporarily agreed to help you stop Truth from firing the rings and killing everyone - humans, Flood, you name it.

Just finished the fight. And what a fight it was, holy shit. Amazing. Even with all the hype, I was surprised at how awesome the Campaign was. :D

The ending confused me though... Spoilers:
Why did they activate the Halo, and why didn't it wipe out all sentient life? Were they in the portal-world that was mentioned earlier in the game? That confused me, too.

Maybe my 4 hours of sleep in the last 36 hours has something to do with my confusion... Oh, and
RIP, MC. =[

Yeah, seriously.
The throw backs to H1 were great. I got a huge AOTC feel from 'The Ark', too.
My favorite level in the game, at least on my first run through. =]

Me and 3 buds played through to level 7 last night in heroic co-op and had an absolute blast.

The game's scale and scope is just incredible and it's seriously beautiful. But so so aliased. It can tend to ruin the visuals at times but I try not to think about it.

As others have pointed out the gun sounds are seriously weak.

I played through the first level of the campaign on meta score and it said 18,500 or something like that points in the final box. I didn't get the achievement. Now, am I supposed to get 18,000 before the modifiers or after?

The first flood level has better over all look, feel and graphics then Gears of War IMO. The levels differ. It seems the engine is great with certain scenarios.

However, if you think graphics alone make this game only Halo 2.5, I can show you a very high building.

Don't highlight the second paragraph until you've watched after the credits.

They activated the Halo in order to wipe out the Flood. The Gravemind and the Flood had followed the humans and the Elites through the Portal to try and stop Truth. The Halos eradicate all life by each firing and destroying life within its radius. That's why it takes seven to cover the entire galaxy. So, by firing only one, it just killed everything within its radius - and yeah, the portal had taken them to the edge of the galaxy, so there was nothing there except the Ark and everyone that had come through the portal. Remember the scene with the humans and Elites gearing up for battle before going through the portal? And Lord Hood was arguing that their last stand should be at Earth, not through the portal? And the Cartographer that you hunted down showed our galaxy where it was pointed out how far away the portal had taken everyone. The Halo did kill all sentient life in the area - there was just nothing there except the Flood (since the humans and Elites escaped through the portal).

If you watched the cutscene after the credits, then you'll have noticed that the Chief survived. Cortana explained that the Halo shook itself to pieces as it fired (since it wasn't complete). So the Chief just got lucky that it malfunctioned, I suppose, and happened to be in an area that it didn't fire towards. But as far as we know, the Flood and the Gravemind were destroyed in the firing.
