If anybody's interested, my review is up here and there's a bunch of screens I took (no spoilers) if you need more to satisfy your appetite...

I can only understand the score, but that seems like a very dense review. Would read it if I could.

Really? I never really thought about it, Ive been too busy thinking about how to feed my kids.

Well so you guys know they base the location based on the location data that the ISP gives from the IP address. So some could be off, or whatever.

Nice The View reference, lol, that idiot.

this is REALLY confusing. What do you mean?

tons of new weapons, vehicles, 4p co op, meta-game, better skulls, forge, etc.

all bring nothing new to the table?

Good grief you people are touchy. In terms of gameplay, it's the same game you love, or hate. IT'S HALO.

One more to show the great lighting. This is probably how it looks on my TV since my HDTV for some reasons has AA.

Great screen!

I find that Halo 3 looks almost plain in screens when not a lot of stuff in terms of lighting is going on.
But the minute those crazy effects, surface effects, lights, explosions etc are on it's like a different game. Similar to turning on a plasma nade.

I don't know why but I've always had this perception that the Atlantic was pretty void of islands

The dot in the Atlantic is in the Gulf of Guinea, so it's probably the Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe.

And there are dozens of islands in the Atlantic.

The dot in the Pacific is clearly Hawaii.

I would say that's fairly accurate. Outdoor levels look great because of the lighting. Using a flamethrower brightens up even the dullest room. :lol

I have a request for a future Bungie update. Is it possible for Frankie or Luke to score some dialogue of Master Chief in the various languages that Halo 3 has been recorded in? I'm curious as to how he is presented audio-wise to non English speakers.

If they ever do a dutch translation I can't wait to hear that

"Goshie, wedden dat je hem niet kan plakken" :lol :lol

("betcha can't stick it")

Less than 24 hours to go here on the west coast. Hard to believe that this is my final sleep without Halo 3; I'd best make the most of it as there likely won't be much more for me over the next few days. :D

Congrats guys, we've almost made it.

If the world ends tomorrow I am going to be sooo pissed.

If all goes well, I can pick it up tomorrow in the Netherlands also. If things don't go as planned, so to say, I'll have to wait till Wednesday:lol.

Well exactly 6 hrs and 20mins until launch here in Australia ;)

Dont worry Im not going to a midnight launch though... I didnt order from EB and Im not interested in co-op until my second run through anyway so theres not much point playing by myself trying to stay awake.

today i got the chance to play halo 3 single player at my friends store. and honestly. i thought the graphics are really bad for an xbox 360 game. it really does look like Halo 2 on HD. which is kinda sad because there are better looking games on the same console. but that said, the game play is amazing. i loved it.

also. another bad thing i found it is that the the game loads alot while you are walking/fighting or after you finish a fight in small area " like loading checkpoint etc ". i know the levels are huge and the same thing was done in Halo 1 and Halo 2. but in Halo 3 they are abit more its kinda annoying. i know its because they need to load the game from the disk and there are more data to load than Halo 2/ Halo 1.

anyway i cant wait to get my hands on it today and play single player for hours :D

What TV were you playing on? And weve ALL seen the graphics now and I totally disagree. You might not like the minimalist art style but the visuals themselves look beautiful.

most likely it was a old gen Samsung 23"

Yeah. I mean give me a break. I really wish people complaing about the 'graphics' would preface it with an "IMHO". Weve ALL OF US SEEN how it looks and there is no disputing that it is a gorgeous looking game.

Are people still confusing art with tech? Whats the deal?

I'm hoping it looks good on my 17inch monitor (5:4 aka 1280x1024 :/) I would play on my 52 RPCRT but it makes me want to puke after an hour of play, and I'm too poor to buy another HDTV lol.

"Congress, I propose the words 'Halo 2 HD' should be banned forever from here on. When people use the words Halo 2, it should be at least 7 words away from the word HD."

Tell me about it.... so the comparison shots have made it clear that Halo 3 looks TUNZ better than Halo 2. I honestly do think people are still confusing Halo's minimalist art style with "graphics".

HDTV.

its not bad as its horrible. it still look good. i would put it a lil less then bioshock. which is good but, like i said. many games on the 360 look much better than Halo 3. bioshock and GOW comes to my mind as of this moment.

You just named two very confined games though, while the vistas in Halo 3 are large and expansive

Well I won't be getting it until mid day on the 26th. My order was only posted this morning.

That's over 50 hours away.

Or 2 fucking days and 2 hours.

Not to mention it's two games. I guess every game other than Gears and Bioshock "looks bad for an Xbox 360 game."

See thats exactly my point. I dont think you can say Bioshock looks better than Gears or vice versa. And I dont think you can say that about Halo 3 either. They look different, sure. You might prefer one art style over the other. But to say one is better than the other? You really cant. Is blue metallic paint better than red matte paint?

man give me a break.

GameInformer:
"GRAPHICS: Vehicles, enemies, and most environments look fantastic, but human faces and some textures are just plain embarrassing"

"ars technica : Graphics won't blow you away"

"Teamxbox.com: some slow down issues " <-- they still say its good looking game

" Gametrailers.com: Visuals are not the best on the system"

i think i can tell the difference between art style and weak texture and not much polygons. and just FYI. i dont like bioshock. mainly i am not into horror games. and halo is like my #1 fps on any console since i am not pc gamer.

just to make you happy, i will say IMHO i dont think the graphics are that good in Halo 3. there are many better looking games on xbox 360. its clear that bungie didnt tap the xbox 360 power in terms of graphics whatever you like it or not.

that said. its very fun and nice game. day 1 purchase ofcourse

Oh my god. EVERYTHING was worked out for the midnight launch. EVERYTHING. Me and my friend's Legendary Editions had been shipped to another store, they were doing a midnight launch, what could go wrong?!

My friend bailed out. He got grounded by his mother. His school work has been slipping, so he doesn't get to go. Murphy's Law is sticking on me more than Vegemite on bread. Just so GAF can witness my pain, here's the roller-coaster ride of my Halo 3 launch:

1) A fire broke out in a Myer retail store that's directly next to the EBGames I preordered Halo 3 from.
2) EBGames was not damaged.
3) The building started collapsing. The whole area is now blocked off.
4) EBGames in Northgate were apparently doing a launch.
5) I have no money to buy a second copy.
8) Friend offers to lend me $100 for the week.
9) Called the EBgames again to double check stock, they said they're doing a midnight release.
10) A different friend calls them to triple check, and after getting the manager they realise they're not doing the launch due to security reasons.
11) I call the same EBGames a forth time to see what's happening myself, they say that all the stock is going to Eastlands EBGames, and that Eastlands are doing their own midnight launch (The only EBGames that is in the entire southern state. Not sure if the Launceston one is).
12) My friend bails out because he's grounded, so no way to get in. (Don't have my own driver's licence yet).

Oh, but there is a happy ending in sight. My father has tomorrow off work, so he's offered to take me to the midnight launch. Currently the only thing that can go wrong is if the shipments don't reach the Eastlands EBGames today. I've called twice to confirm it, and currently they're saying they haven't got the copies, but they plan to get them a few hours before launch.

If this wasn't Halo, I would have given up long ago. But if I come home tonight with my own cat's helm, it'll all be worth it. :D

It's one thing to say you don't like the graphics, but it's another to say that Bungie didn't tap the 360's power in terms of graphics. It's doing way more than almost any other 360 game, just not looking as good as Bioshock or Gears in terms of detail.

Only they did. They drew as much as they could from the system to make Halo 3 as visually appealing as possible. Unfortunately, they were limited due to the scale of the game.

Great to hear that there is a happy ending in sight to this story in that you get to finish the fight right away instead of waiting. :D
