9PM? 3 hours of waiting outside? I'm considering just going at 12:30 after the line dies down. My copy is paid off. I suppose I could just bring the PSP with FFT loaded up.. or save that 1up yours I haven't listened to yet..

It's a trap?

And the helmet doesn't do much for me. I'd gladly buy an $80 version with all the discs but no molded chief face nonsense. No offense meant to those who do want the helmet. It is surprisingly large and high quality, I was impressed.

:lol No traps here, I was just kidding. It's just one of the main reasons I ponied up for the LE edition. I wouldn't mind having the CE art booklet to go along with the HD disk version.

So Im thinking of buying some of these for this week.

BAIL OUT
I'd rather have the physical art book. Maybe I can snag the cinematic disc on ebay someday, or someone will put the commentary online.

Has anyone found out what the spoiler levels of the IGN and Gamespot video reviews are?

I watched the GameTrailers one and didn't come away feeling spoiled, so if they're on par with that I'd be fine.

I'm afraid to watch any video reviews since I've gone this long without being spoiled but since you give the GameTrailers version the thumbs up, I'll check it out.

So what's the deal with EB Games/Gamestop tomorrow? I have to show up at 9:00pm to get a wristband? Do I then have to wait in line for three hours or will the line go pretty quickly at midnight since everyone will have it paid off? Seems to me like they're effectively making a huge line before 9:00 while hopefully shortening the wait at midnight.

I should get a freakin wristband early. I put my $5 down the first day pre-orders were taken, almost a year ago.

Mmmm... just got done setting up our spare room for the next ~72 hours of gaming. I was originally going to just go back to the office after picking up my copy, but I'd rather be within a few feet of my bed when I'm ready to crash instead of a 37 mile drive :P

Sony VLP-HS20 720p LCD projector spitting out a ~92" screen. Unfortunately I've been relegated to using some Logitech Z-680s during normal gaming hours (at least its 5.1!), and my Sennheiser HD-555s (powered by a Headroom Total BitHead amp) for late night Covenant pwnage. Colors are a bit off atm, but I'll spend a few minutes with the AV calibrator to get it looking just right. Just watched all the available Halo 3 content from the Xbox Live Marketplace to prepare.

I'm hoping I have enough room to plop our papasan in there (best gaming chair evar!)

T-minus 24 hours, 54 minutes, and 36 seconds until I'll be speeding down the 101 with my Legendary copy in hand.

Now, sleeps.

edit: Just realized that nobody has really been noticing the motion blur. I frickin' love it! Its subtle enough to not distract (unlike Crysis), yet pronounced enough when things get crazy to make me think NextGen (tm).

I mean, I personally wasn't spoiled by it. Everyone's tolerance level is obviously different, but I was fine with it.

Every time someone talks about how many posts they have in the thread, or how big the thread is, instead of something Halo 3 related, an angel dies. I alway say, when the conversation in a thread turns to how big it is, at length, it's time for it to die (see: the co-op thread).

There's a lot of dead angels at the moment. :(

I respectfully disagree Ghaleon. Part of what makes these long threads enjoyable to follow is that you actually get a sense of the individual personalities behind the avatars. What you're describing is to me just cheerful small-talk as we prepare to slaughter aliens.

It would make sense the matchmaking servers go up right as im about to pack it in for the night.

Going to sleep at 2:30 when I need to be up at 7:30 to commute back to college and get to class.

Awesome!

(btw download my video i r awesome to see some snowbound pwnage from tonight, gt = spruchy86)

I don't know if it has been posted (this thread got alot bigger over night) but matchmaking is working now as it seems. FUCK YEAH! :D

Good night gentlemen. Best of luck to all of you in your midnight launches.

great idea bungie!!!
but is it really possible for some to be playing in the middle of the ocean?and another in alaska?:lol

Sao Tome and Principe? The dot isn't quite in the right place though.

(google earth ftw)

Man, so psyched right now. Seven and a half hours until midnight (Australia). After all this bloody trouble, everything is alright. Apparently EBGames managed to move the shipment of Legendary Editions away from the life-threatening demolishing of a burnt down Myer department store. I've been on the phone with EBGames for the better part of my school day (Tasmanian holidays ended today, of all times.), and there's one store around me that's still up for the midnight launch. In about half an hour I'm heading to a friend's house to get in some Halo 2 coop, and from there to the midnight launch.

I've only been on GAF since July, but already I can't wait getting in a game with some of the members here. (Assuming all goes well with my account). :D

Islands, guys. They exist.

Really? I never really thought about it, Ive been too busy thinking about how to feed my kids.

Well so you guys know they base the location based on the location data that the ISP gives from the IP address. So some could be off, or whatever.

Who the hell is playing on an oil rig next to africa?
I've a feeling that that's actually at 0 longitude, 0 latitude - AKA whatever they're using to lookup locations completely drew a blank and just spewed back a default value.

Australians getting it already? Lucky..

I've seen you on the Bungie forums before. I came here because its pretty hard to have a good Halo 3 discussion on the forums there(bailed out cuz of spoilers too). The community is awesome here..

btw that place on the map, http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/world_maps/world_rel_803005AI_2003.jpg its an island, check there. Bungie's mapped is stretched to make flat.

The Horror![/QUOTE]
:lol

Thats so true, me and a friend were at Gamestop trying the exact same thing. They had the boxes there and everything..

It's nice that the game supports 1080p. Should look razor sharp on my new TV. I wish more developers supported this feature.

Every 360 game lists 1080p on the box now, Halo 3 is 720p native.

Witchfinder General said:
Yes, but there's a discernible difference between upscaling and native resolution.
The game doesnt support 1080p as a native res. The 1080p res is just in the box because the 360 can upscale it to that res as it can with all other games.

Finished the fight. Too tired to give detailed impressions. Halo 3 is to the Halo franchise, what MGS3 was to the MGS series. Brought the series back to its roots, gave the fans what they wanted. Probably the best in the series. It brings nothing new to the table, but it brings back what we all wanted.

The last two levels of the game are probably the worst, which is why people probably feel it's short. You're on such a good ride, and then the train comes off the track so to speak. I actually ran through a portion of the 8th level without engaging in a firefight because of how boring/mundane it was. Melee and grenades got me through relatively unscathed. Levels 3,4,6,7 are all great.
