Dear lord those were good times. Eazy's map is excellent, just amazing Forge work. Elevation played better than I had hoped in that one CTF game, even though we got stomped. Turf II never gets old. Great maps all around. And yeah, we played a hell of a long time. We're starting to get a nice, big collection of good maps now. :D

And I got three films for Atlas on Entrenched, which I'm going to work on submitting now.

One uncertainty I'm going to try and clear up before submitting: whether the number of players needs to be the maximum for the playlist they are intended for, or just the range. We did four games, three at 6v6 and one 7v7. I'd like to submit it for BTB, which is from 6v6 to 8v8. So I'm in the range. I'll find out before actually submitting so I'm not banzored.

I'm burned out, sorry for bailing out in the matchmaking game. I was trying to change my emblem and leave until I got pulled into the game. I just can't play anymore.

I'll have to get in on one of these custom nights eventually, since all I seem to want to do anymore is try out created maps, and its hard for me to get enough people to do that.

Out of curiosity, did you guys try out my Chimera map? I have yet to even get a game going on it.

Sigh. I think I have zero acceptable films for Entrenched. From the submission guide:

1. Use gametypes existing in Matchmaking, as they are used in Matchmaking. Films that are too long to be similar to matchmade games will result in rejection. If you need to, grab the matchmaking game variants by playing them in matchmaking, then selecting Recent Games -> The gametype you wish to film.

1b. When we say "as they are used in Matchmaking," we mean specifically the team format as it exists in Matchmaking. One off-team film might be acceptable, but if you're testing for a 4v4 or 5v5 hopper without full teams, your submission will be rejected.
I'm submitting for BTB. The films are 6v6, 6v6 and 7v7. These are all in the range of games played in matchmaking for BTB, however, the wording above makes it clear they need to be the maximum number of players in the hopper, not the range. I don't think we've ever had 16 in GAF customs.

I'm through 10 pages of the Q&A thread and I haven't seen this addressed. I'll finish the other 20 pages tonight to double check. I read through the Q&A thread, and didn't see this addressed. But I don't think my map is going anywhere.

I'm kind of bummed, since I had hopes of refining and submitting Sandstorm, but that's even more of a BTB map than Entrenched is.

Ah well. Tw'as a fun thought.

You can always try for films again, but it won't be easy consistently getting the amount of players you wish for your BTB style map. That's the good part about my small-ish style map (only takes eight players).

Entrenched was pretty fun for the Multi-CTF. It was my first time playing it and I didn't know where anything was, except the equipment and Missle Pod . Train Station also wasn't too bad for a Terminal-inspiration, though, once a team gets jammed in that base... they're screwed.

we did play one game on it. it seemed fun but i think i would have to play it a couple more times to really judge it.

Great custom games,
Shit matchmaking game.
and "HELL" of a time with those kids the last few games.

7hrs tonight... gonna be dreaming of halo :/

Matchmaking etiquette.

BTB, CTF, Standoff.

We are up, 2-0. We have successfully extracted the enemy flag for the 3rd time, myself having extracted and capped one flag, and now served as the mongoose driver carrying this final flag back to base. We have done this swiftly - a mere four minutes or so into the game, and we've won a crushing victory.

The carrier does not cap it, however. He moves around the cap point, and tea bags in greeting to me. I do likewise, assuming we are celebrating our imminent victory. But no. He is just keeping the flag in there so his friends - who are in a party with him - can go on a fifteen minute slayer spree. I've been on the receiving end of those. Not cool.

I shoot him a couple times with the AR, just to get his attention. Then I shoot the flag cap point - a clear signal. I tea bag, then move forward and tea bag the flag return. The message is clear. Cap that sucker.

He does not. Instead, a friend of his comes up on a mongoose, drives into the base and the flag carrier hops on. I've having none of this victory lap shit. I stick the mongoose with a plasma, it goes boom. The driver dies, the flag carrier doesn't, somehow. But again, message sent.

He does not cap it. I shoot the return point again. DO THIS THING. Nope. He tea bags, perhaps still admiring the particular armor I'm wearing - despite my having blown up his buddy.

I do a few more rounds of trying to get his attention on capping the flag. No dice.

I murder him and walk the flag the three feet to finish the game. My heart was clearly with the defeated here; having been there, I felt it wrong to subject them to more than simple, swift defeat.

This probably breaks down into the pro and cons of victory laps. But I'm curious if I gone done good by GAF's standards.

you've got more patience than I do. If that guy wasn't capping, I'm killing him IMMEDIATELY and capping myself. With somethings like that I lose my patience and just wanna end games and move on to the next.

Was my first time playing a lot of those maps, I'm very impressed by the variety (and quality) of stuff people are making with Sandbox. Fun custom games.

Tonight, in NeoGAF Customs...

76811191-Medium.jpg

vhfive and I shared an intimate moment in the back of his warthog.

76811326-Medium.jpg

A moment cut tragically short by the cold, emotionless steel of TJ Ram's rifle. Hold me tight!

The monster himself. Can you imagine the evil behind those eyes?

NeoGAF Customs: where love goes to die.

Man, I'd love to get into some GAF games, though I'm afraid I'd be too shitty. They're on Saturdays, right? What time do they usually start and finish?

:lol

Let me establish the threshold for "too shitty". My actual k/d spread tonight, on every game I played:

-13
-9
-13
-9
-10
-8
-6
-15
-11
-16
-5
-9
-5
-3
-12
-8
-9

And they still let me play.

Of course, I have to go into matchmaking later just to restore some semblance of self-esteem, but hey. The games be fun.

Just had some quick random ranked matches and had a blast. It had been a long while since booting up into a halo 3 game. Its easy to forget how tight this game plays. It certainly is my favourite fps tailored for the consoles. The playlists were a lot of fun from what I played. Fiesta on blackout was ridiculous :lol. I may bite on mythic map pack sometime soon.

I feel like I haven't played Halo3 in a month. Maybe I haven't. Classes have kept me really busy until now, so I should be back in the thick of things again soon.

Good times, indeed.

I'm happy with how Brouhaha played in that one flag game although there are some tweaks that may be necessary. Slayer was a mess though, it's sorta like Last Resort in that it wasn't made for symmetrical gametypes but still the spawns could use a lot of work.

Really wanna play some more Elevation, teams were really stacked so it's kinda hard to tell but I think it'll be fun.

You could put in a request at ForgeHub or Bungie.net or somewhere for people to play. We very occasionally hit 16 players in Eurogamer customs, but not everyone has Mythic.

And of course you'd have one extra for NeoGAF customs if you didn't play in the middle of my night.

I was up at 2AM (UK) but that was it. Couldn't stay up any longer, let alone play Halo :(

Glad you guys had fun. I would've hopped on and join you all, but I was too busy writing my first spec script (:D ). Hopefully next weekend.
Edit: so, yeah, I just got a triple kill with the AR. :p

Particularly on a Saturday night too!

I missed customs because of work. Sadface. When I came home you guys were playing some awesome looking needler slayer game on an epic Lockout remake (seemed to be better than Blackout).

You should let us read what you write. Everyone will provide constructive criticisms, and no one will be mean about it......
How did your SATs go?

Fiesta's fun for a few matches. After maybe 4 or 5 matches, it gets really boring and really frustrating. I wish Bungie thought ahead and made some kind of filter for random weapon gametypes. Something like "Do not allow the player to spawn with two separate dual wield weapons" would go a LONG way.

Fiesta is great as a gametype in a goofy playlist (*cough*Team*cough*Actionsack*cough*) but not on its own. That's just my two cents though.

It's no coincidence his stats are the exact opposite of mine. He spent all his games killing me.

Yeah it was a short game. I really want to fill in the dead space off to one side of the map. I did a little rearranging and found I can get up to $40 in spare budge without really changing anything. With a few small tweaks I can make it $50, which I think is enough to redesign that side of the map a bit. The bridge proved just a touch too fast for flag caps, and I think pushing the bridge over to the side wall and providing another route down below would do the trick. Will tweak.

But yeah, it was pretty fun. The man cannon proved not to be a serious issue, which I was really worried about. It's a touch too cavernous - my maps tend to be simple concepts writ very large. You packed a huge amount of nuance into Bruhaha - interesting spaces and routes all over. I picked up quite a few tips just from playing on it.

Also, I've started a new one, in the sky bubble for the first time since my first (lousy) map.

Whew. It took the laggiest match for me to FINALLY get the my last Legendary achievement ("Alas, Poor Yorick"). It took about 8 seconds for the little achievement unlocked thing to show up. I almost thought it wasn't gonna pop up.

In other news, Fiesta is so much fun (unless I spawn with a sword and a plasma pistol :lol)

I got on customs for like 30 seconds, and then disaster struck. Lightning struck the Comcast building in the area that provides me with my precious cable and internet. It was down and out until later this morning. So I missed all of the fun customs and we couldn't play on my remakes. :(

Plus, Saturday nights are the only times that I get to play Halo. Instead, I sat in the dark and studied for my exams.

Over-rated.

This.

I had fun on all of the maps, really well done. I wish I had the patience/skill with Forge that you guys do.

I will say however, that I think a lot of the maps on the middle ground of Sandbox will be no good for the simple fact of how much space you have on the outskirts to move around. The other team took Snipers/Lasers to the outskirts so many times last night, pretty annoying.

Tweaked.

Going over the film I decided the following:

  • There's too much protection when returning flags along the bridge; by hugging the inside wall you're completely sheltered from the other side of the map. I took advantage of this one, and so did the other guyz.
  • If someone is on the bridge, let's say abducting our flag, and we spawn away from the bridge, it's a cap, without any contest. Needed to provide ways to end-around those. But at the same time can't make it too easy to get into the base from below.
  • Need to fill in all the dead space against one side of the map, on a tight budget.
All fixed. Map very serious map took on a few wacky tones in the process.

Thus:

12Bridge.jpg

Bridge is up against the wall now. Ramps from base are a bit longer, which adds a few seconds to the return time. Barrier on the edge only shields from lower levels, not above, so it's more exposed.

12-1.jpg

Corners have a kill ball in them, center got tweaked. It's still intended as a kill zone, but a touch less than before.

12extension.jpg

Base now wraps around the corners, so there's two ramps up from the bridge.

There's two additional ways onto the bridge.

12jump.jpg

The center can be jumped onto from the center blocks now.

And I tweaked the top of the level:

12top.jpg

12wheeeeee.jpg

Lands in the center of the bridge, on the regen. Is also one hell of a fun jump.

New overview:

12overview.jpg

It's much faster to get around from the lower level to the bridge, longer to go from the bridge to the base, and a way to get from high side to bridge side. I think it's better. Hopefully we can try it this weekend.

This concludes today's Forge live blog.

although, i dont know if i ever played customs with him. i know i've played with metroidvania thermite, and some other dude with TJ in the beginning of his name... oh yeah and omlet. some reason they like to make fun of a girl i know who smell likes horses.

Just out of curiosity, I got back into Halo 3 after litarally not playing it for somehwere close to a year.

I got the Mythic map pack which is fuck awesome, and within the first few games, I found a couple of guys who wanted to boost achievements.

I figured fuck, why not? Maybe I can get a few ouf it too.

I played for a few hours, and a whole bunch of us scored some points all good.

Next day, I go to jump back in, I get two messages telling me my account AND my console have been banned from gaining EXP for two weeks. I could still play, but anything I did, didn't go towards my EXP.

I was like WTF?

So I jumped onto Bungie's site and looked up the ban section, and the ONLY think I could think of I might have been banned for was apparently boosting EXP?

I found that their ban system is automated, but does it really look at EXP boosting and achievement boosting as the same thing?

How the hell does EXP boosting even work? I looked around and it has something to do with people dying on purpose to boost others? Why would others want to fuck up their own stats and nothing else, to boost others? Or did I misread something?

Alternate accounts (to get an easy access for 50's) and boosting in ranked matches are far worse than EXP boosting (something done in social, unranked games). But whatever...

I've always thought that Bungie has some sort of monitoring system for matches and when a certain threshold for activity has been met (10 points = two enemies are near each other for 10 seconds and don't engage; 5 points = only 1 person in the entire match is shooting, etc.), a signal goes off and some people from Bungie actually WATCH the match and determine whether or not boosting was involved.

I dunno :lol
