Whoa-ho Shiska is busy implementing another Grifball double exp weekend. He also put a single user created map in the Mythic playlist give this man a break he's exhausted.

The Battle Creek/Beaver Creek inspired map "Oasis" isn't too bad. I can roughly understand his idea. But overall, I don't like the inside of his base. It seems too empty. I'm trying something different, and hopefully if a game of 4 vs. 4 battle it out, it is something that works.

Doing the middle and outside areas is rather difficult. No ideas really jump out in front of me.

Craziness! The next bit of insanity I bet you'll be spewing is how no one liked Team Rifles @ Ascension on Halo 2 with the Banshee enabled!

Some of the maps I've played... :/

EazyB's Rise is the only map I've come to actually enjoy.

The maps in question are Sanctum, Mage, Worship and Excavation...

Actually, which one is the Warlock remake? That one isn't too bad. Except for the KillBalls when I spawned, that needs to be fixed.

EDIT v.3243432432423 : I just found out which map Sanctum was, it's nice, but it feels a bit restricted in movement.

Once a night amirite.

customs was a lot of fun tonight.
a little bit of a rough start with some randoms
wtf infection on orbital
but once we ditched them it was fun

Whoa, freaking awesome customs tonight after we got rid of the nonGAFers.

After playing tonight, I have come to the conclusion that Sanctum (Sancuary remake by Vhfive) is pretty much the best map in Halo 3. I could play CTF on that puppy all night long.

Besides that, Mage was a lot of fun, but I think that the lifts need to be more like the ones in the Foundry Warlock remake where the lifts are in a space protected by a sheild.
Ghaleon's 2 story vehicle map was really fun too. The Excavation Foundation remake was a ton of fun and extremely true to the original.

Yeah it is. Onslaught is like a 2 second return. Pretty close. :/
Actually the so called "touch return" does not exist in Halo 3.

all you have to do is be in proximity of the flag, it could be on the second floor and you could return it from the bottom. : (
It is one of those things that I am not sure why it got removed along with 3plots from Halo 2.

not to mention fucking up Assault. Now that's a big fuckup. If it's not broken why try to fix it?

Maybe you should have vetoed it. ;)

I dedicate a section of my mind to insta-veto VIP.

But of course, there are cases where people veto tolerable games like Team Slayer on Pit Stop, or Team Crazy King, only to get VIP. Yuckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

I wonder how Bungie looks at the data.

I mean what if we get Team Hammers, then when vetoed we get VIP. Does that mean we want to play VIP according to bungle ;p

I'd like to know that, too.

:( We need something soon. We have absolutely no in-game content whatsoever on a game coming out in 6-8 months from now.

Amen. :(

How come people without all the DLC can't play some game types. Maybe I'm cheap, but I think it is wrong I can't play team doubles without the Legendary DLC. I paid for the shit, why can't I partake in all the game types (except of course the ones that are only specific DLC, like the mythic map game type). I can't even play SWAT, wtf.

I'd assume they'd only look at what GOT vetoed and never what actually gets played the most since thats all up to the dice. If you thought of like the GoW2 data now that would tell you more what gametypes people prefer OVER OTHER gametypes. Bungies data would be more just what gametype people like based on the volume of veto, but even that could be useless since I've hit X more than a dozen times just because my teammates tell me they want me to and I don't really hate the gametype or map at all. A happy teammate is better than one who goes around the whole game shooting your shields down screaming Slipknot.

Not that I'm comparing since they are different systems. Bungie's is the question of "Is the known enemy better than the unknown?" would you rather play Slayer Pit with AR starts or take the chance of getting BRs but you might have to deal with Snowbound or Epitaph?. Where GoW2's is a question of "which gametype do I hate less?"

-and when Domino says Shishka is doing something wrong, there might be something wrong. VIP needs to be removed or a different variant tried. Of course that point is a well established fact.

Hire Juices

I hate repeating myself but:

Don't display the veto numbers. Having them visible skews the data; instead of being solely about what you and your teammates want to play it turns into "hey look, the other team doesn't want to play this so don't veto" or the hilarious kids that veto at the last second because they're so clever.

I also like the Gears system but tweak it a little. Show the two map/gametype combos (e.g. team slayer on Construct and one bomb Standoff) and let the players choose between them. If the map fails to load do another vote.

I don't we'll see these sorts of changes during During Halo 3's lifetime or if it's even possible to make such changes but IMO such a system would be a godsend for any future FPS games.

Yea theres a whole bunch of reasons behind the veto that doesn't exactly make for the data to mean anything, vetoed slayer SEVERAL times to get objective when you are up a man at the game start.

But not displaying the numbers would be a great idea. Even though talking amongst your team you can pretty much figure out who did what. It'd be a start though.

Have veto'd Slayer on many occasions to get objective gametype when our party gets split. Makes it easier to finish faster and to not be a jerk to the guy who got split.

Also They totally need to borrow many many things from other games for their next project. (and if possible patch halo 3 to include them) < doubt it though.
Halo 3 with the additions would be godly awesome.

A question to everyone.

Have you guys ever been successfull in doing a melee and crouching for the second melee? (does that work? or does the other guy still beat you down)
I remember in H2 you could crouch after the first hit and have the other guy miss his melee while you could melee him/her again. :lol

In Social Skirmish you're bound to get shit like VIP. It should be weighted extremely low, but that's the way the ball rolls. Thank God it's not included into Team Objectives or anything. I remember it showing up often in Ranked BTB. -_-

Escort would be a better gametype for something in Social games anyhow.

I also liked Assault/Bomb better in Halo 2. Some teams got lucky for the most part, but the whole arming/disarming thing standing in the proximity awaiting to get 'naded (like returning the flag, as well, such a joy in Valhalla trying to return a flag and finding five frags about to land right by) isn't exactly thrilling. Arming the bomb with :01 left or something in Ivory Tower or Zanzibar was excellent. :(

I'm not a big fan of vetoing maps. I see it as that Bungie has an algorithm designed to give optimal playing experience for certain maps over others. The issue of the probability of which maps *cough* assembly *cough* surface over others is a different discussion.

For the discussion at hand, there are certain maps that a minority population of halo players like. It is Bungie's job to see that these maps show up based on the popularity distribution and most importantly to give variety. When there is a more favorable map, let that map show up more often. When there is a non-favorable map, let that map show up less. When you add vetoing into the mix you mess up that variety and you alienate the less vocal minority thus not allowing them to enjoy their maps.

What I would like to see in Bungie's next game is the ability to change the gametype but NOT the map. If you start the pre-game with a slayer game and you veto, you end up with an objective game. If you start the pre-game with an objective and you veto, you end up with a slayer game. Pretty simple.

Oh yeah, if you have a problem with the weapon set-ups (br vs ar) go into a different playlist. I thank Bungie everyday for adding the MLG playlist. I haven't kept in touch with my old MLG friends so I rarely get to go into customs, with the MLG playlist I don't have to wait in the pre-game lobby for minutes to play with BR starts.

So Worship was a big bust. I didn't have high hopes for it once I had completed it. You live and you learn.

The Foundation remake was very nicely done but once again proved it is useless for anything other than Infection. Mage was pretty awesome and Sanctum played nicely, though felt a little cluttered. I'm aware Sanctuary is cluttered, but it was done in such a way that it worked with the enviroment. Sanctum is just blocks and pillars. The Pirate Ship one... well that was confusing and did not play well on SWAT. Whoever did that first Infection game on Orbital should be banned from Xbox LIVE. Awful.

Fun games had however.

I think by that point, Bungie would like us to look forward to/move on to The Next Big Thing™.

and in other news, the first version of the next Grifball court is almost ready

the map still needs a few tweaks as a result of today's test so i don't have anything for you to download just yet

until then, here are some pics (click on first pic for slideshow/hires)

the Crypt is 1.73 times the size of the standard court - this court is (almost) exactly the same size as the Foundry court, including the height

however, the Crypt Grifbox court is PERFECT for Aerial Grifball - we were almost hitting the Crypt ceiling during launches, and landing on the colour balls happened quite often - one player had to take a break from laughing too hard

LOL just played a game of Legendary Brawl and got Mosh Pit on Standoff. Beginning of the game noones talking or in private chat we all go in the hill and NOONE shoots anyone. Literally no communication is happening between anyone but everyone is just standing in hill collecting time, people get in each others mongooses and warthogs and travel to next hill. Towards end people start killing each other. Fucking weirdest shit that has ever happened to me in Halo.

Holy shit, awesome job; most grandiose arena ever. I was pretty confused when you showed us that pic of the grifball construction but now it's clear. Definitely give us a heads up when you have a finished version ready for download.

Will there be a golf club on the map?

We use something similar in Halo 3, but it's not a global setting - Skip After Veto allows the playlist manager to set it so that gametype A would not appear after it is vetoed (remember early in H3 lifecycle the Shotty Snipers abundance, that was reduced by slapping skip after veto on it [in addition to reducing the frequency that it appeared]).

I think some of the niche gametype (those with really low weightings) should never be forced upon players after a veto; they should only pop up on the first (veto-able). That way, people will only have to play team rockets or team duals in Social Slayer for example if they really want to. Doesn't seem that far away from "skip after veto" so there's a chance it could be implemented.

So I have the worst luck in Halo ever.

I play a game of SWAT, of course I lose cause I have mad shitty teammates that cant go positive. Figure I'll try again.

We are winning like 47-43 and two of their teammates quit. Black screen starts game starts back up scoreboard doesn't start over but score does game starts and that means its going up to 100.

Shitty host that time and we end up losing by a few.

I also really really tried to get that 50 in LB but every game I'm getting 5 messages asking me to boost in it and there's just the same people over and over helping each other out. I can't deal with that shit.

I too would like to see a system similar to the one found in Gears for Halo 3, though I am fine with what we have now. I remember the first time the feature was announced, it sounded like a really nice feature, and that is what it has turned out to be.

The Grifball court looks good. Wonder how they manage to make everything appear so precise -- like it wasn't done in Forge.

Nah, I don't agree with that. The reason they're such low weightings is because people only want to play them a tiny amount of the time. They would always get vetoed, and never played.

I haven't gotten to play Sanctum but running around it looked pretty good. I have gotten to play Bladed's remake and it was really fun and as far as I could tell very accurate.

sorry im late on this :p

for sanctuary i liked the looks of http://www.forgehub.com/forum/competitive-maps/59952-exult.html, especially the middle, though imo the crypt is too small for sanctuary, and i believe somebody's working on one on the middle level, so we'll see how that turns out.

for wizard imo wizlock looks better. mage is too big compared and the middle platform is too low.

not trying to rain on anyone's parade :( i'm just going off the pictures and from impressions from other people i trust, so i could be wrong. keep up the forging guys

OMG that grifball court looks AMAZING

My dad still plays this game every single day and is only a 16 right now. He has played something like 3000 games and can't seem to get the hang of it.

You should check out his scores..

What I would like to see in the next Halo FPS is an option to vote for the map and game type. A screen would pop up after matchmaking with the list of maps that are avaliable for the hopper where people can select the map by voting with a push of the button. They would also be able to vote for the gametype.

the structure is 100% complete, a few of the spawns are 1 or 2 degrees off center - i place them so if you hold forward at the start you will end up on the opposite spawn - unfortunately they are on an uneven sand pile so it is more of a challenge to attain this result

no Golf Clubs on this map - my next project will be a court based on an ancient Mayan game - it will use the standard Grifball rules but allows for a unique start where the outside 4 players will be able to start with Golf Clubs - once dropped, players will not be able to pick them up

the very first thing i do when i start a new Forge project is switch to Assault, find the exact center of the map, drop a Bomb Pick-up, float a Spawn Area over the hole in the center of the Bomb Pick-up - i use this Spawn Area for all measurements

the side walls are a bit of a dog's breakfast because they use mostly original items, but the end walls i consider playable surfaces so they got the 'A.R.' treatment (not to be confused with Assault Rifle), with the Spawn Area set to 7 x 20 x 23.5 i float the walls so the only part showing through the Spawn Area marker is the gold trim on the walls - this method was also used to accurately place the gold pillars so that there is a 'wall-hop' ledge where you cannot stand on the ledge, but you can hop off it (with great difficulty, or help from a hammer swing) or carefully walk the entire ledge (video to follow) - with Sandbox's unique 'shift after saving' feature
[sarcasm alert]
the bottom 4 corners alone took over 4 hours to accurately place - luckily i have the spare time for this

OMG that grifball court looks AMAZING
wait till you see the open-top version

This would be terrible. We would be playing the same 2 or 3 maps over and over again and the only gametype we would ever play would be team slayer. There would be no variety whatsoever.

The current setup is fine, IMO. I also thought that the setup in H2 was fine, so what do I know?

Eh, even then you' have everyone choosing different maps and gametypes and it effectively being random anyway.

I definitely think Gears' system of showing you both options works well.

But hey I like VIP so what do I know :lol
