I dunno, I can only take so many FPS's with brown/grey color palettes that have depressing atmospheres. Really.

On another note, come Monday you can find me donging on randoms in Killzone2 PSN ID: KevinR

I agree, there is an overabundance of depressing atmospheres in the genre, but these are still tops. The sense of scale in the skyline is just as prevalent here as it is in halo.

To Eazy:
I'm still intriqued by the games multiplayer, but it's got a sharp learning curve that I'm convinced many people will give up on. If this game didn't look as pretty as it does, there would be some serious trouble with the multiplayer, but I think people feel compelled to learn it and stay in the world Geurilla has created. It's its own beast, and needs some things patched in desperately.

The whole thing is an obimination of user interface, and makes you really appreciate how clear and easy to digest/process bungie has made the halo series.

Thank you, kylej

Pretty sure that was Kevinro that brought it in here. Kevinro is the original donger. The dong master.

anyone from halogaf playing KZ2 MP?

add me to your psn friendlist.

I got a one week vacation so I will try to split my gaming time between KZ2 and Halo Wars

As a BR connoisseur yourself surely you understand the need for a permanent Team Flag playlist. Tell Cisco he needs to make TF a real playlist tia.

Permanent Team Flag would be awesome. Don't bother making it ranked, ranked playlists seem to die too easily.

Maybe we can have DLC Flag or something.

On another note one of my greatest moments in BTB happened yesterday.

I don't know if this has been recorded before but it is monumental and I suggest everyone to download it. Like most suggestions that are hyped, it will be a let-down but it will be well worth it!

Please download it and tell me what you think lol

If you're lazy here is the only .avi file of it: I'll Take That!

watch the dude that runs out of the base. i wonder what went through his mind when he ran out to shoot an enemy haha

btw, what does DPM stand for?

On the kylej link you put earlier, one of the first few posts there has kyle telling folks to download a video because it has more "DPM (dongs per minute)" than other films

I wish that was a stat we could track.

I want my splatter spree so bad :( I almost got it on Avalanche (Double EXP weekend) but I missed the fucker as I was going for the last kill ;_;

Oh, and this is turning out to be quite impossible on heavies.

Just keep rushing that Ghost man :P

I got it within two Avalanche matches when I decided to go for it. Just remember that the spree counter doesn't care about time between kills. Bide your time, hover up at the laser spawn so you can dodge round either side away from threats, and pick off stragglers. If your shield isn't full or recharging, don't engage.

You probably won't find it necessary, but if you think you need it, try having a friend help you out by grabbing the laser so it won't be used against you. They can also take out any Hornets that might be going after you.

I've never felt like a bigger noob in my life trying to get that achievement yesterday. Honestly, I've never been shot at by brute choppers, ghosts, banshee's, warthogs, lasers, rockets, nades, and ar's EVER.

I'm honestly going to have to pray and wish that I get matched up with 3 guests that happen to be taking a humongous shit at all the same time. Yes all at the same time. That way I can run them over and over. Seriously though, this promotes retardedism in matchmaking.

There are 2 big problems with the achievements in multiplayer:

1) Everyone tries to get them. I know when I play Avalanche, even though I have the achievement myself, I make it my duty to kill any fucker in the Ghost because I know they're after one thing.

2) Trying too hard to get the achievement. This is also true, you'll try too hard to get it, and just end up flustered and annoyed as some kid BR's your pearly purple Ghost in to flames.

KevinRo said:

Yeah, when Mythic drops I've sorely tempted to sit it out for a few weeks. When Legendary dropped to 600 it changed games completely with people trying to get the various achievements. Avalanche particularly with people taking off on their own in hogs and dumping them to jump in the Ghost. It was irritating as hell.

Of course, when I was one of them, it was fine. :P

well guys.....

as a skybox junkie, I think Halo 3 has finally been dethroned.

Killzone2 and the animated weather effects has taken away the crown.
You really have to see some of the rolling clouds and lightning storms on your own tv to truelly appreciate it.
From what I've seen, I disagree, though, I haven't finished the campaign yet. The view of the Ark in "Halo," the portal in "Floodgate," Earth and space in Orbital, the skies in Snowbound and Sandbox, the Scarab factory in Assembly...

I've only played the multiplayer so far, and seeing the way the clouds move and the giant mortor shells arching over the skies with this same giant sense of scale.. its really just a step above. Outside of Assembly, all the halo skyboxes are relatively static, its pretty much not even a fair comparison. There is far more going on in the killzone skyboxes.

'Helgan Industries' is my favorite one so far. But they are all so good. Atmosphere in this game is probably it's number 1 area even beyond the animation.

Firmament v1.2

Upgrades...

5D90149B7C386531D8788FD59CA7D38F.jpg

- better cover and more room to "breathe"

09E9990A79217B6B4A45AF979F2E2AFC.jpg

- gives a team in the hub a better chance to defend the hub.

Other noteables...

- tweaked the spawns on the walkaway... so when you spawn, you walk down the walkaway... instead of falling off the map.
-fixed the corner walls of the bases so no one can "hide" behind there in fear (aka. Coco P. Jojo)
- removed light balls near the rocket launcher bases to save some money.
- removed some blocks near the "secondary" bases just to save money to spend on other upgrades.

I would have it on my fileshare, but the problem is that my xbox live gold expired. I don't really have a timeset for renewing it, just when the opportunity arises, sooner or later.

If it doesn't look beautiful to me, it ain't gonna cut it. Halo 3's skyboxes give you a sense of awe and wonder, just the way I felt when I finished Halo 1. Killzone 2 can't replicate that feeling unless it becomes something close to Halo.

Alpha Version. I'm done with the geometry, and once I'm done placing weapons/spawns, it'll be pushed into the beta stage. At which point, I'll put it up in my file share.

Might as well add my map to the ever-growing pile...

Agartha: Symmetrical team game map, with a 4-level base structure, ideally meant for CTF and Assault.

68028786-Full.jpg

Diagonal view of the map, you can see all 4 levels from this point. There are two side doors on each base leading to the basement, where there's a shotgun and a Brute shot.

Above the basement is the main level, where a Regenerator, a couple plasma grenades, and a bunch of rifles spawn. There are two ramps leading up to the level above it, where a needler, a Power Drain, and a few more rifles spawn. There are two more ramps on either side leading up to the top level, where a sniper rifle and the flag spawn.

68029009-Full.jpg

In the center of the map, at the bottom of the main ramps, is a block with rockets on it. On either side of the center section is plenty of cover, including two of the bunkers that hold a bubble shield each, and a bunch of weapons strewn about. On the two pillars (below), an Active Camo spawns. The bunkers are slightly offset from being perfectly centered, so one is slightly closer to a given base than the other, to encourage a circular flow around the map.

68029151-Full.jpg

Lastly, here's a basic overhead view that sort of gives a good impression of the map's scale. I wouldn't figure that more than 5 or 6 per team would work well on it, but I haven't had a chance to get any games going on it.

68029103-Full.jpg

Here's a link to my fileshare: http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Halo3/FileShare.aspx?gamertag=Havok CXVII where I have it and two of my other (Foundry) maps, which I am fairly proud of, so if you like this one you might want to give them a shot.

My gamertag is Havok CXVII, if you guys want to play a few games give me a shout, its been great getting matched up with HaloGAFfer's in the Mythic playlist over the last few days.

A few thoughts on the Sandbox Forge experience: The budget is a lot lower than I had initially thought, and I ended up depleting the object count even after using all of the default objects. I'm not sure how large maps are going to work in the sky bubble if there aren't enough objects to make big bases, especially since the spawn points count as objects (which I really dislike, I ran out of objects right in the middle of placing spawns). Also: The walls of the crypt are not perfectly straight, there are large horizontal mounds on them, which creates almost as many problems as the uneven walls on Foundry did...I don't know, it just seems kind of silly that the walls aren't 90 degrees all the way down when it would help out so much.

Edit: Ghaleon, if you want some folks to run around your map and try it out, I'll probably be on for the next few hours.

I remember you saying that the first half hour of Resistance 2 is more epic than Halo 3.:lol

How much KZ2 have you played? It's more Gears than Halo, but seriously you have to lighten up. You're getting grumpy in your old age.

An impressive looking map that seems like it'd play well, plenty of cover without overdoing it and the bases are accurately symmetrical. First map? If so i'm impressed

Thanks, I really appreciate it! Its my third serious attempt at mapmaking (the other two are the Foundry maps in my fileshare), but the first one where I've done any interlocking whatsoever. I'd love to get some feedback, like I said I haven't played a game on it at all yet.

Weird question incoming.

Was Incubus' song (Follow) in Halo 2 (first Arbiter level IIRC) the only outsoured song in the series?

No, there was a Breaking Benjamin song (sans vocals) at the end of the level 'Gravemind,' and a whole bunch of Incubus songs (Follow was 1 of 4, I believe) on the Halo 2 Volume 1 soundtrack.

They were all pretty bad.

*Unlocked Legendary Map achievement while playing a Mythic Map*

Hurah! Bungie, was this deliberate? I suppose they'll just say yes. Also, does anyone think an Ivory Tower remake is even possible in the slightest?

Not sure what you're referring to -- outsourced? There's been other licensed music for Halo 2 and Halo 3, most egregiously, Breaking Benjamin. The Halo 2 Vol. 2 OST has a ton of tunes from Incubus, as well as some other artists. Halo 3 has one I believe.

Haven't playtested this, but if anyone is willing to give it a try and offer some pointers, I'm all ears. Since everyone was working on small/midsize maps and since they're doing an amazing job at it, I thought I'd throw down a vehicle-centric map (ignoring that Halo 3 has a surplus of these) and take advantage of the best playable surface in the game, imo -- the ground level.

Trying not to bore anyone with screenshots and protracted descriptions, the map focuses on vehicle interplay, with minimal laser interference (there's one, and you have to work for it). I also decided to use the kill balls for something other than design here. If you have any questions, see issues or want to offer some advice, shoot me a PM. Should work with all gametypes, because I'm using Eazy's original canvas and all of the existing gametype specific objects. Hopefully it's not horrible. :)

Ironically, the first map I started when I got the maps in my hands was a spiritual successor to Ivory Tower. I think it could be done, but ultimately there would be drawbacks. I'd like a few staple elements to return and for it to be built out on the ground floor, because of the lighting. I'm sure someone's going to give it a try and I'll be happy to plop my ass in it after they're done.

I was actually thinking about it the other day and think it's fully possible except for the elevator.

Elvators to be handled by Grav Lifts. What had me troubled was the downard slope to the Sword. To create such a section would require the entire floor to be filled out which is impossible. I'm guessing no sloping part would be another such sacrifice.

Dude, I have never, and will never, listen to Breaking Benjamin in my spare time - but that being said, that instrumental version of their song during that chamber fight on High Charity was awesome. I thought it fit perfectly.

And the Incubus track fit well, too, I thought; despite the odd hissing noise that was used to cover up the vocals.

And I loved the 4 song suite by Incubus. So good. Especially the 3rd movement.

The Incubus stuff I can handle -- particularly during the Banshee chase sequence. It works and it feels organic and within context.

All respect given to Marty (who I believe is a genius in his line of work), I can't stand that one sequence in High Charity as soon as that first riff is hit. For me it was a brick wall of trendy nu-metal and a complete departure from the game's otherwise unbelievably stellar soundtrack.

I misspoke above and said the H2V2 soundtrack was heavily licensed. It wasn't. The first volume was and this was one of the reasons I could never really get into it. You have Breaking Benjamin side by side with tracks like "Unforgotten," and it's hard for me to reconcile that they came from the same art source.

it's much better if you suck down a few mountain dews beforehand...:lol

I don't know if I had a more WTF moment then that exact moment in Halo 2. It did make it feel like you were playing a scene straight out of a cheezy action movie though. Of course the problem with videogames is that I died like 10x on my first playthrough, so that stupid song just keep rocking out over and over. UGH!
