So I called MS support a while ago, and spent probably 20 minutes with them on the phone, and they're stumped as well - and we went through everything possible, even as far as giving them the code I entered for the Mythic maps and everything looks fine...

The guy said that he put in a notice to his colleague to investigate it, and if I don't hear back from them in 10 days I have to call them back - this really, really sucks man...

Is there anything I need to do for um getting HD or whatever. I've always just had an SD TV and lately I upgraded but I guess I was still playing in low resolution, I went to video and chose 1920x1080. But I remember before it was like choose between 480 720 and 1080, did I go to the wrong option?

Right now it looks higher res but there's so many jagged lines.

Welcome to HD gaming :D

Your options change depending on what cable you're using. They may have altered how it names each res with the NXE as well but I'm not entirely sure.

Yea I did change to the VGA cable. That's probably it.

So basically it looks kinda shitty at higher resolutions?

Grimm - I know you're well aware of how easy it is to break out of your map but it's still just too easy to jump up on top of the walls and walk around the entire map like that. It'd be a lot of work but if you could use walls as flooring for the elevated area and saved the blocks to be used as buildings it may play a lot better. Nice attention to detail though.

I thought of that but the biggest wall segment is still just as big as the biggest block. So I wouldn't be getting any more budget back.

I'm liking what I see with the Sandbox maps so far...but I'm hoping for more stuff that would lend itself well with the Infection game type. Something less symmetrical, something a bit more "progressive" as in the humans would fall back more and more and fortify themselves in a small space in the end.

Try other games first. Halo 3 is 640p, so it will look jaggy. The most important thing for you since it sounds like your on a monitor is to make sure your screen isn't stretched in any direction. If not, then that's how it should look, even if it does look jaggy. Your other games should look pretty crisp though.

Okay, I'll fix that, any other suggestions?

RE. Stormtrooper

It's a very open-ended map, if the sniper rifle were to be on the map, there wouldn't be a lot of cover from the sniper.

We played this last night, I liked the map a lot.

The biggest complaint from people (same as Ghaleon's I think) was the aforementioned spawning and walking off the ledge. I guess most people spawn and immediately run forward. I'm not sure if changing the direction so that you're facing the cover walls is better, or another option is to make the spawns along the ledges/bridges face down the pathway instead.

I also noticed during slayer it was pretty easy to pin a team into their base. I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done about that, but it's something to consider.

I like the death pit in the middle, and the bridge over it :-) If you end up down there you're in trouble because you can only get back out at the four corners and people above you have a huge advantage, but at the same time it's a good place to drop into for cover when you're being shot at from the bridges.

Anyhow, nice work

It's gotten to the point where if I see one of my teammates spawn, and not immediately run forward, I assume they have no idea what's going on.

You gotta be ready for action, and the only way to do that is spawn running forward...obviously

I can't believe how awful Tundra is for SWAT. The sightlines are terrible. Why is it even there?

Almost everything else in the playlist is awesome though. Apart from AR start objective games, obviously. Can't wait to play more Sandbox in 6v6 or 8v8.

Yea dude I agree. I hate spawning in those bases it always seems like making it out of there alive is a crap shoot.

Ghaleon, it's far to easy to fall off your map. There was a hilarious 30 seconds when I spawned, took a step forward and fell right off the map, then 5 seconds later my teammate fell off, followed by the next member of my team, until finally we were all waiting for our suicide timer to reset. The entire map could use some railings because of how narrow it is. Your new map looks really interesting, I like the progress screens.
Yeah I was afraid of that; it wasn't an issue for since I was so familiar with it. When I'm done with the current map, I'm going to go back and do a major iteration of Skyline. I ran out of budget, so I'm going to push the bases closer together, build a secondary round around the center, and get some safety railings.

Thanks to the awesome RocketMoose, my Mythic Map pack problem is solved - I had to delete some replays, photos, etc. because I was complete full at the limit (got there within the first two months I think, and always had to delete something to save something) and the maps loaded properly again, and I could play Matchmaking without dropping out...

Heads-up for those who download it in the future...

Thanks Bungie!

argh, I'm on the fence at the moment. Should I pick up this game or is it way too late to jump in? I've never really played a halo game besides halo 1 on pc and that was just for story mode. :p

Multiplayer's still very healthy, and it isn't difficult roping people on your friend's list to do some campaign coop and custom games with you.

If you have 1-3 friends who also have the game, playing Coop is worth the purchase by itself in my opinion. I think I've beaten the game on Legendary with all skulls (besides Iron and Black Eye, of course) about 20 times by now :lol

okay, good to hear, I'll go pick it up today then haha, more interested in the multiplayer and glad to hear it's pretty healthy :D

Yeah Halo 3 is a definite buy.

I hardly come back to FPSs after I eventually get tired of them but periodically I come back to Halo 3 due to the maps and the constant changing of the Matchmaking Hoppers.

Tundra is my second favourite map after Snowbound.
I can't tell if this is a funny joke or not.

Tundra might be okay for Classic CTF or something, but playing SWAT on it has always been miserable for me so far.

Orbital is a great slayer map; the hallway encounters and chasm jumps made for great squad vs squad shootouts. It still confuses the hell out of me, and nearly everyone I played with as well were vocal about their lack of direction as well. I spawn and have literally no idea how to get to another side of the map; it's like an inverted pretzel. But once we actually find someone, it's a hoot.

It's actually two inverted pretzels connected by a double helix.

I think he was referring to the budget limit handicapping some forgers map designs, which is a technical problem that can't be escaped. Also some people are having problems remaking maps due to budgets, forge items being incompatible and just general difficculty recreating the same experiences we remember of maps from previous games.

They'll just have to do what Bungie do when remaking maps: Make sacrifices.

Has this been mentioned yet?

Halo Wars ships on the 3rd. Intentional, happy coincidence, someone realised that it would be cool to line it up this way and engineered it?

Yes I agree. IMO it makes for a much better playing experience if people attempt to re-create the feeling of a map and which elements made it so fun rather than to try and clone it physically and realize it can't be achieved.

humans spawn on big ship and can only stay there (no jumping to the docks to spawn kill). there are rooms to make a last stand in but with enough entries that you can't camp there forever. there are also 2 man cannons that bring you up to the crow's nest.
zombies spawn on docks and zombie ship. there are 2 man cannons on top of the dock. you can also jump from the dock to the ship.
there are 3 man cannons on the ship one leading to the crow's nest.

Im not sure if i can describe it right, but if you place an object horizontally, save, quit, and load it up again it'll be slightly angled, sometimes. I dont have the maps, but ive seen alot of forgers frustrated over it in the last few days

well guys.....

as a skybox junkie, I think Halo 3 has finally been dethroned.

Killzone2 and the animated weather effects has taken away the crown.
You really have to see some of the rolling clouds and lightning storms on your own tv to truelly appreciate it.

So Killzone finally killed Halo?

not even close. they are at opposite ends of the FPS spectrum, and I still think Halo 3 is king of all online shooters.
Still waiting on that game that can match the variety and depth of a halo match.
To date no other developer has made as compelling a 4vs4, period. The only other game that offered something as complex was the splinter cells.

I dunno, I can only take so many FPS's with brown/grey color palettes that have depressing atmospheres. Really.

On another note, come Monday you can find me donging on randoms in Killzone2 PSN ID: KevinR

I've heard a lot of poo pooing this weekend from Halo players about Killzone 2's online. I won't get my copy until Wednesday but you guys better stick with it long enough so I can frag with you guys.
