Sweet mang :D Sounds rad.

I wanna make my map but I have no idea where to start ><

It's hard to watch people playing customs on the new maps. I guess I'll just go back to researching HDTVs to pass the time. The time is fast approaching to finally pick up a flat panel for me. What kind of sets do you guys play on?

Samsung T220HD, I highly recommend it. It is only 22 inch though.

I play on a 26" Samsung (720p). Sound quality is pretty lame though so I use 5.1 Headphones :P Love my Sammy :D

I'm anxious to check this out. We gave Ghaleon's and Omlet's walkthroughs last night and I was pretty impressed with both of their work.

Thank you, sir!

But the only problem I'm having with my map is having each team spawn in their bases. I put a starting point spawn in each base along with a huge load of spawn points around it, but there still are players spawning in the middle of the map as soon as the game starts.

I hate dealing with spawns. :(

Make sure your spawns are correct for the gametype. If you're building a CTF map and you alter Slayer spawns then you won't get what you want.

I've been frustrated with Forge lately -- merging or not, sometimes these objects just don't do what you want them to do. For example, I'll set two identical objects together, side-by-side and one will be higher than the other. It's slight and almost unnoticeable to the naked eye, but the change becomes horribly egregious as it is built on, or even when simply walking across it.

When I attempt to fix the height difference, the object is rent free from its place as if the monitor has the gravitational impact of a small gas giant. I'm finding that to do anything visually precise in Forge, you need makeshift forms and levels to keep everything even.
I'm aiming to have my map done by this evening. Hope it turns out well cause I've easily sank over 12 hours into it already with probably an additional three to go.

And your forge comments bring a smile to my face. Those experiences are such a commonplace in forge that they don't come off as ridiculous to me anymore and I've developed many outlandish methods to remedy forge's limitations. Forge was a great start and it's been able to accomplish much more than it was set out to do but for Bungie's future projects they have a lot to refine.

I don't know if you guys saw this, but Hawaiian Pig over at HBO adapted UT's Facing Worlds to Halo using the sky bubble. It was a fantastic CTF map in UT, so you guys should give it a few runs in customs to see how it holds up.

An absolute classic in UT, woulda been nice if he was able to make the bridge arc from one side to the other but that's an extremely difficult and time-intensive task so I can understand why he wouldn't. I'll definitely give it a try.

Has anyone heard of people remaking Counter Strike maps? I'm curious if people have, and if they are any good. So many good maps in that game, but they probably don't transfer well to Halo I'm guessing.

I should make he_glass :D

THis is actually a good idea though. I really wanna try this now.

I've always wondered if any of the CS maps would work in the Halo world. A few decent possibilities for 1 bomb, and 1 flag (ie hostage gametypes).

I've also kinda wanted to make an Ice World map. :)

Dax01 said:
95% sure, yes. Though, I probably won't have my map made by then. I'm thinking of calling it "Geminie." What do you guys think? :lol
The only danger in that is if when it's finished it doesn't play exactly like the original, you'll get a lot of shit. :/

I would totally help with that :D Iceworld is great. I wish Gun Game could be implemented somehow :( GG is the greatest ><

Unfortunately, my favorite style of maps are all glass maps, so recreating those is pretty much impossible ><

What time? I'd like to toss my map into the pile, but I'm west coast.

no time yet until we get more people and we can figure out a time and day that is most suitable

and about the skulls on the mythic maps, are they like the campaign skulls where I can just find them if I look hard enough, or am I going to have to use tricks and glitching /level escaping to get to them?

sixthsubset said:
So when are the maps really coming out? April?
That seems to be the ballpark. Bungie said in the last update that we're looking at weeks, not months. And April falls into the window they hinted at before. Though ultimatel it's up to Microsoft, so who knows.

They are all definitely within the realm of Forge possibilities.

Considering how bad Gemini was, I doubt anyone would care to rag on it.

Not from you guys though, right? You guys never give anyone shit about things not playing exactly like the originals, right? I kid, I kid. :D

A successful Gemini remake would be extremely difficult. Like Ram said, the original wasn't well-received on its own -- in part because it wasn't a really well-divided competitive environment and in part because it was released next to maps like Relic and Terminal, which were grand in just about every way. Functional things in Gemini would be tough to recreate, like the doors which open and close -- they played a pretty big role in the map's functionality. The best part of Gemini, for me at least, were the visual elements like the Prophet fountain, the Yoda tree and the bad ass view of the Forerunner dreanought parked at the center of High Charity.

I'm not sure how you could recreate any of those in Forge. Good luck though, Dax. I'm pulling for you.

And wasn't this the map with epic penises of the gods on view upon escaping the map?

cont me in Project Badass will definitely be done by then and i might have another one (have a couple of ideas kicking around

Speaking of Relic, is there anything to prevent someone from making a pretty accurate, badass version of that in Sandbox? The hills would be tricky to recreate, I suppose, but it seems like the majority of the map would be well within reach.

Relic is too big. The Sky Bubble is plenty big enough for this stuff, but there's not enough objects to be able to create the terrain in many of the big maps that people are thinking of. We're pretty much going to be limited to small-to-mid-sized maps as far as remakes go.

Kuroyume said:
Good luck trying to remake that tree in the middle out of Sandbox parts. :lol
Yeah, it's not like I can't just replace the tree with something else.:lol

Got that part covered!
and all the curved surfaces....and the water....
Why is water needed? This is a remake, it isn't going to be exactly like the original, just like all remakes are.

Thanks. I hope I can pull it off.

Yeah, and there's no way in hell you could recreate even just one penis. There's not enough geometry in the palette every single Halo 3 map to do that. Just not possible. Even in the Brute zone.

Voc, you'll have to show me the bottom of Gemini sometime. I've never been down there.

I was thinking it'd go on the regular portion of Sandbox. Sucks it's not big enough.

It would be very doable. And there's a pretty wide variety of ramps, wedges and angled blocks that I'm sure people will use to simulate undulating ground geometry.

From the toolkit list, all of these are angled wedges/shims/blocks of various sizes:

20 WEDGE, SMALL $5
20 WEDGE, LONG $5
40 WEDGE, HUGE $5
30 RAMP, LARGE $5
20 WEDGE, LARGE $5
40 WEDGE, CORNER $5
20 TUBE RAMP $5
20 BLOCK, ANGLED $5
20 CORNER, SMALL $5
20 CORNER, LARGE $5
20 OBELISK $5
20 RAMP, SHORT $5
20 RAMP, WIDE $5
20 RAMP, THICK $5

In my opinion, your biggest problem isn't even the volume of objects or size or any of that. Your biggest issue with a Relic remake would be the palette set. One of the key components of Relic was the natural geometry, the vast sea around it and things like the switch to activate the teleporter, which are criticial to the map's functionality, are just not doable in Forge. Even if you could get a map to look vaguely similar to Relic, it would almost be a certainty that it would not play like it.

Recommendation: I think that unless people are looking to remake maps like Lockout, Sanctuary and Turf, which could be built reasonably well with Forge and Sandbox, they should instead take a map like Relic, Gemini or whatever and make a list of the things about the map they thought worked -- the memorable elements of the map. Then, design a map around those conventions specifically tailored to Sandbox's palette.

Do you have any recent screens of your remake of Turf to show us, Grimm Fandango?

Yeah I was going to post some last night but then I found a silly little measurement error that screwed a bit of the map up.

Since you're interested, I'll start working on some comparision shots of the completed parts right now and be done in a little bit.

And I was going to work a lot on the map today but I forgot about my physical chemistry test in two days >_<

Just recently got myself an Xbox360 (which completes my collections of all the the current gen consoles + handhelds) and obvious first game was Halo 3.

I only played the multiplayer for Halo: CE, the first mission or two on Halo 2 so this is the first time I'm going through the campaign for the Halo games. They're nice and epic but I hate the horrible level designs. I'm always getting lost and the Flood levels are the absolute worst. Ugh. I just finished the Cortana level and I feel like I've defeated the world. Jesus that was torture. Were there any other mind numbing levels in the previous games? I was thinking about picking them up for storyline sake but not sure if I wanna grind through confusing corridor after corridor.

Other than that, multiplayer is fun as hell, though I wish I could participate in social big game or w/e that's called. 5 v 5 got boring after a while, and I don't wanna pay for the new maps :/
