I'm still a bit confused why those giant tenticles rise up at the end of The Covenant. I fully expected a boss fight against them, or perhaps a sequence where they are attacking and the Chief and Arbiter are trying to avoid getting smacked around by them. But they show up...then just pull back.
Yeah, that part was a little awkward - how there's just silence and then they pull back.

The Forge-to-do List sounds great. I also recommend this, but if playlists aren't being modified to simplest terms (IE. adding new modes, new variants to maps on certain playlists, etc.), I wouldn't hold my head up high for something like this to occur. :\
We wrote them up for the GAF Bungie Favorites, I doubt they can/will implement most of what's been suggested
although an outdoor Foundry-like map with deletable flooring is within your reach Bungie!
but I like to think they will aid Bungie in their future projects.

Halo 3 has raised the bar and I expect saved-films, screens, and forge-like options in ALL games.

And Eggell, I don't see why you can't just combine the two lists. There's a lot of crossover and I'm sure they'd appreciate any and all suggestions. I know a lot of mine are far fetched but who knows, maybe when it comes down to it some of the things that seem harder than the other actually aren't. In any case, I'd like Bungie to see all of our suggestions and if anyone else on GAF has things they'd like to see, feel free to speak up.

An outdoor custom map like Foundry has been spoken about before. It's highly wanted.

That would make lots of folks happy -- myself included. :)

It's somewhat strange that there isn't an option to turn off the Cortana/Gravemind interruptions somewhere. I mean, surely someone at Bungie realized how annoying it became over time?

Yeah, that is strange. Or they should've just had them turn off automatically after one playthrough and then offer them as an option in subsequent playthroughs. The stupid interruptions have actually somewhat convinced me not to play certain levels ever again.

It was badass though, that's what's important. Brought back memories of jumping into the Arbitor for the first time and fighting alongside the Hunters, elites, and grunts.
Wish there was more of that in 3.

I liked it the first time through, as I found it an interesting way to inject Cortana into the story when she wasn't around. But on subsequent playthroughs, it's annoying. And actually a little infuriating because all her cryptic babbling doesn't amount to anything. (Most of it, anyways.)
The answer is probably out there and I'm the only one that doesn't know this, but was it ever explained how the Gravemind and Cortana can jump into MC's noggin?

I believe that I've read somewhere that it was on a "to do" list that they just didn't have time to get to.

The gameplay is not nearly as bad as everyone makes it out to be, and like you said, the dialogue and cinematics in that mission are unbelievably good. Some of the best in the game.
I gotta say: I was disappointed by the cutscene in which the Chief finally gets to Cortana.

I thought it was dumb that she just instantly becomes "ok" after the entire game has built her up to be entering rampancy. But other than that, the cutscene is brilliant. The dialogue and the music are stunning.

I thought I'd shoot my way out for once. Mix things up a little.

It really seemed as if the whole rampant Cortana bits were for nothing. However, that cutscene is gold.

It's always upsetting when people think they want something, and yet, they really don't. Then, I have to break the sad news.

ATTENTION: None of you want a gravemind boss fight. It would be awful, just like all the other boss fights in Halo (scarabs excluded), and you would all bitch and moan about it.

You don't want to be stuck in a small room, shooting at tentacles when they come up to hit you. You don't. Sorry.

Emailing him everything today. Once he gives me the signal that he's received everything, I'm going to prepare for week two of Favorites (which will have one of the greatest yet discusting screenshots of all time).

I don't recall saying I wanted that. Bungie hasn't had much success with traditional boss fights in the Halo games, so there not being one is probably a good thing. Just that I'm still perplexed at Gravemind's brief, partial cameo and then hasty retreat.

I thought the fight against Gravemind would play something like a fight against the scarabs. He'd have advanced AI and MC would square off against him in some arena-like hive. He'd also have a weak spot to attack for massive damage. I think given enough time, Bungie could've done it right.

You should put them in dirty positions and then put it in your fileshare.

BTW: Nice Fuel, man. Awesome story - I found a Halo 3/Game Fuel t-shirt at a Goodwill thrift store near me for $1.

$1! Best dollar I ever spent.

Seriously. Definitely my favorite moment in the game, if not in the entire series. It's just so gorgeous.

OBJECTION!

I would luv Metroid Prime 'style' boss fights in Halo. Multi-staged, multi-weakness, scarab sized boss fights.

I think my favourite moment in the series is the beginning of the last level of 3. The music, the snow, the subtitle 'Full Circle', and the freshly-minted Control Room in the distance...

I agree.

I thought it was better to leave Gravemind as this mysterious, Flood leader creature that only communicated with you through those eerie messages.

"Boss" Battles were better served against Scarabs. Hell, the Chieftains were real fun to fight.

"Keep your head down.....there's two of in here now. Remember?"

That's how I hear that reading of that line - not that she's reminding the Chief - but recalling those first moments of combat in the first game. It never fails to get my nostalgia ducts flowing. It's a perfect capstone on a perfect scene.

And then I go back to wondering what all the build up was to her rescue. But that scene really is a thing of beauty, in the directing, lighting, writing, delivery and score.

Yeah. It's a stunning scene. I love that they built a long approach to the control room overlook, for the music and setting to establish the atmosphere. So beautiful.

So after some time with COD4 and a RRoD, I've come back to Halo. I go and purchase the Legendary pack and try to fire up a little DLC Slayer and I get this blinking "you don't have the required maps" crap. So then I switch to DLC Objective and away I go. WTF? Why does it recognize and load the new maps on objective, and not slayer?

Did you download Cold Storage? Only thing I can think of...

This is a strange bug that I think almost everyone experiences. Just go to Forge and wait for all the maps to load and you should be fine.

Hey guys, a friend of mine - musicman117 - wrote a Halo-inspired piece called "In Search of Truth." I think it's pretty good... it's got a mixing of genres in it: some techno-ish percussive beats and some rockin' guitar parts. And piano/strings. It reminds me of what it would sound like if the music from Halo 1 and Halo 3 met.

Anyway, you can download it here; let me know what you guys think of it.

I played DLC objective for about a half hour, and it still said that I didn't have the maps for Slayer.

PrivateWHudson said:
Do need that to play DLC Slayer, but not objective?
Yes, I'm pretty sure. Cold Storage is way too small for 6v6, but it was added to the Legendary-required playlists (including SWAT, for example), so you need it.
