Yes. I also did for NG2 and COD4. I reckon its the X360 update that came out, perhaps it emptied the cache.....or perhaps all 3 games have had updates come out for them. I do not knows, brah.

Anyone a member of this site?

I got spammed on Bnet because of uploading maps.

Quote:
►Here are some key points on the site:

• We are an active community that is willing to give feedback and check out your map. If you are to join please make sure you understand the rules before posting. We have a ton of great forgers too. Also the mods are very helpful and will help you out if needed.

• We have a nice forums layout with four map sections. There are Competitive, Casual, Racetracks, and Others. This is an easier way to find maps you like.

• Also, due to Bungie's recent forum update. It is very hard to find good maps. This is because the forums are now organized by date, with the newest maps on top. Now the once active forums are "dead" and flooded with new, poorly made maps. Legendary Gaming forums are not like this, and it is very easy to find great maps using our our great forums.

• On the site is also an arcade. You can compete with the other members in tournaments and see who has the all time high score.

never heard of it, but the layout looks like a forgehub rip off. May post my only ever made map that I put lots of time into. Also, I added GAF gamer tag, I think you're the dude who controls it?

Anything noticeably different?

Edit:

A few hours ago, a new Xbox 360 system update was released meaning that anyone signing into Xbox Live will be prompted to give it a download. But don't get too excited, because Major Nelson has informed us that this is NOT the feature rich Fall update we've all been waiting for. Instead, today's system update has code in it to "prepare for future growth of the service" with no new visible changes or features added. Which also means there are no Avatars ... yet.

I think I get plenty of Halo in and I believe my gifs serve a great purpose and without them this thread, GAF, the internet would not be the same.

Visit link for other standard questions. I really want to see new IP from Bungie asap. Would be very good surprise if that canned game announcement is actually new IP.
Good that they are reevaluating reward systems. I think they had the tools in Halo 3, but implemented them less than idealy.

The comment about Bungie developing ideas on the shelf from Myth is interesting...

Shishka, are there any plans to give Team Snipers its own personal, permanent playlist? Frankly, there are too many shotty snipers/sniper games appearing in Team Slayer and the like.

Yup, I'll accept after work.

The list is almost full. If anyone is playing with someone on the list and they are being a douchbag let me know what they did and I'll remove them from the list. I removed one dude so far, and will never be accepted again.

PM me through GAF. I always try and keep the list at 95 users. If you get removed no offense, sometimes I randomly remove people who haven't been online in a while. Or haven't played H3 in their recent games, just to make room. If you want back in PM through GAF.

Never thought I'd be the dude making the LIST!

"Dude, you're not on the list..."

Hmmm...

Remember in a BWU from a few weeks ago of an annoucement that:

Bnet said:
"Will change the way you play Halo 3 online"

Or something like that. I wonder what Bungie has for Halo 3 players...

A reward system like that of CoD4's would fall in place well with the new playlist ranking system that Bungie talked about in this past week's BWU. I remember seeing that a Colonel in the Social Slayer playlist was at 200 XP, which actually seems like a fair amount for a single playlist to require, especially just to be a Colonel. Following suit, I would assume that one would need around 500 XP in order to become a General, which is a LOT for one playlist, especially considering that there are what, 13 or so regular playlists? Maybe Bungie has plans for some kind of reward system that gives you XP for capturing a flag, planting a bomb or getting a killing frenzy. Or maybe some kind of leveling system for each individual weapon where once you get, say, 10 kills with a BR, you get one XP.

One thing that I'd really like would be the ability for new players to enter matchmaking games in which other players had quit. I don't see a reason as to why this wouldn't be implemented -- it would allow for more fair teams, especially when some douchebag players quit immediately in the lobby.

/speculation

along the same lines... i can definitely see bungie using new armor as a rewards system. we (surprisingly) havent seen any dlc armor permutations yet, how about a ton of them to kick off this new 'leveling up' system?

Yeah, new armor would be cool, but Bungie (Luke specifically) has denied multiple times that Halo 3 would ever have any downloadable armor permutations. Looks like we're stuck using ODST armor.

Didn't Bungie confirm that they can't add new armor perms? I thought Bungie said something about that...

I'm pretty sure it's had a price drop. I think I saw an ad for it on Sunday for $39.99 somewhere. Man, I'm so scatter-brained today.

It was listed at $37.99 in last week's Target ad, but I'm not sure if that price point has carried over to this week though. Might want to give them a call about it.

yeah, you guys are both right. in fact, i think one of the bungie guys responded to my own question when stating that that was impossible. duh.

Ahhh kinda like the Campaign scoring. That's sounds really cool. What if you could win AND lose points during a game. Like say you get +5 points for a headshot, but if you get hit in the head you get -5 points. Same goes for nade kills, beat downs etc. So then at the end of each game the points get converted to EXP. So you get a second personal score, other than just kill/deaths, that combines all of the post game lobby stats and medals.

The post game lobby already keeps track of all of this stuff. Who kills who, how and with what weapons. I'm drooling...Sounds do-able?

Sounds like it could be very do-able to me. Heh, I'd get a ton of XP if they gave points out for getting assists. Somehow I always end every BTB game I play with around 25. :D

I don't understand why people need to be rewarded with points for everything they do. Isn't the reward of getting a nice headshot that you got a nice headshot, not that a "+5" popped up on your screen?

Who knows, maybe I'm just old-fashioned.

COD5 is coming with a mechnical hand that pats you on the back whenever you get a kill.

It's not that I necessarily want a +5 to pop up on the screen. I'm just saying that it would be neat if Bungie incorporated more RPGish-type elements to the game a la CoD4. And it would fit well with the new ranking system.

I'd rather have a mechanical hand do something else.

Its about time they gave R.O.B. The Robot some new uses. I mean common 2 games! Common!

Anyways after installing that new update my 360 got an error screen E65...which I guess is a DVD drive error. Is my 360 falling apart?

Much of the tone in the original was set by the alien environments. There's a certain sense of wonder that simply can't be recaptured once you've experienced it. The same phenomenon exists in all forms of media. When I first saw the Star Destroyer in A New Hope stab out of the blackness of space and forge ahead as a seemingly endless spire of metal, I was awestruck beyond belief. Today, it's a cool cinematic moment, but I'm definitely not perched out over the edge of the couch with my jaw wide open.

Halo CE was the game that brought me back into video games after a four year hiatus. While the following two Halo games further enriched the universe and enhanced the gameplay, they did not (and probably could not) recapture that sense of wonder experienced in the first.

This is where Bungie's next game comes in. They have a golden opportunity here either with a new IP, Marathon, or
Halo: Dark Planetoid Rising (copyright Voc)
. I can't wait.

Lol. Sorry but this seems funny coming from a game that annouces killing steaks with mortal komat-ish names, graphical icons, and announcer.

People like to be rewarded. That's just the way the mass of gamers are.

To me that's what medals are. You get medals in Halo 3 for all kinds of stuff, which I get a kick out of. But people want that tied more directly to some other kind of benefit. Not sure how they could build something onto Halo 3 like that, I'm assuming it's a discussion for their next game.

Right. But medals, in and of themselves, don't "earn" the player anything. They just pile up in a chest online, viewable only collectively via B.net. They could easily translate into something like custom badging, weapon decals, or armor variations.

That actually sounds like a good idea, only because of how much experience is needed to become a General in a playlist now.

...then again, there'd be a flood of generals because of extra EXP points.

Gamers have been rewarded with points since PONG, not old-fashioned.

I think this kind of system could do more to help the community play better. Rather than "Noob Rushing"
TM Finjitzu, 2007 All Rights Reserved
into 3 dudes over, and over. Maybe this would get them to stop and think "Doing this totally fucks over my EXP, maybe I'll chill with my team for a bit. See what happens."

Yeah, but that's thing, I don't really care about medals and stuff either. It's the same with achievements. I play the games because they're fun, not to have things pop up onto the screen to let me know how special I am. Whatever. As I said, I guess I'm just old fashioned.

Well yeah, but screaming in your face "YOU'RE SPECIAL! I LOVE YOU!" has not always been a big thing in shooters. It's a new trend that I dislike.

I mean, I don't doubt that adding your suggested system would have a positive effect (people might think twice about betraying people so they can get snipe if a "-500" pops up on their screen), but this whole trend in society where people feel so bad about themselves that they watch TV shows where other people are humiliated so they feel better about themselves, where they want to constantly be told how awesome they are by their games... it disturbs me, to say the least.

I can go either way and the tone of the game has a lot to do with what is appropriate. I do think COD 4 hit a nice sweet spot especially for a semi-realistic game by providing a game beyond just the game which was a nice bonus. Some people want sort of goals within the game beyond just win or loss. Especially when you lose that stuff makes you feel better about the experience and creates the addiction factor.

Right. That's what I was saying, though I used an entirely different set of words. A more tangible reward linked to the systems. Tying armor pieces or even emblems to some kind of progress or reward system would have been effective. I hope Bungie doesn't go down the road of rewards that impact gameplay.

I think you're reading a little too much into it. The way that I see these so-called "rewards" are as a way of making the game more fun and interesting, not shamelessly rewarding players and bolstering their self-esteem. Just because I get 10 headshots in a game doesn't mean I'm going to have a sudden burst of lasting self-satisfaction.

And sometimes players deserve to be rewarded for doing something outstanding. I'm pretty sure that that's the only reason that the Killionaire medal exists.

I don't even know how you could consider that to be disturbing.

I can't imagine they will. They've always been a gameplay first studio. It wouldn't be too difficult to build a player reward system that honors players for playing correctly, and prevents players that play otherwise from earning anything other than scorn and a sick sense of self satisfaction.

Check out this weird glitch my friend discovered. Somehow he got jammed in the roof of one of the bases in snowbound and it created these psychedelic effects. Then he figured out how to write messages and add effects to it. It's a bit long but you can watch it in fast-forward, very cool.

Yah I hate society as well. But that would be awesome if after every head-shot Luke Smiths head popped up and said "You're Special. I Love you." Ala Toasty guy from Mortal Kombat 2.
