The latest version of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech, used in Borderlands 3, has been cracked

Borderlands 3 came out on September 13rd and the latest version of the Denuvo anti-tamper tech was able to protect it for one and a half months. However, and after a healthy two-month sales period, a certain scene group was able to crack it.

It will be interesting to see whether Gearbox will remove Denuvo from the game. After all, pirates can now freely play this latest Borderlands game. Let’s not forget that this anti-tamper tech is only “punishing” its legitimate owners right now.

As we’ve reported in our PC Performance Analysis, older generation CPUs were not running the game smoothly. Whether Denuvo had any negative impact on them or not remains to be seen. My guess is that there won’t be any significant performance differences between the Denuvo and the Denuvo-free versions.

From what we’ve seen, the culprit behind Borderlands 3’s underwhelming performance on older CPUs is DirectX 11. And while the game supports DirectX 12, that build is still in a beta phase (and takes ages to load).

But anyway, bottom line is that the latest version of Denuvo has been cracked, and that publishers should remove it from their games once they are cracked. Here is hoping that Gearbox will adopt a consumer-friendly stance and reward its legitimate customers.
