C. Not much of interest. But at least we have Star Fox incoming, and a new Wave Race would mean the world to me.
 
I gotta say A.

For a first year, really strong variety in 1P titles, including new entries in 5 core franchises (Donkey, MK, Pokemon, Yoshi, Metroid), significant upgrades to prior titles (Wonder, BotW/ToTK, Kirby) and a few smaller/non-core (Tennis, Air Riders, Hyrule)

The only real disappointment for me was MP4. And it wasn't bad, it was just a mid 7/10 metroidvania game. Which is a shame for a series who's name was literally genre-defining.

D. So far it's a Switch Pro and it has no buzz. They need something special very soon to sell this thing. The DS had Touch Generation and NSMB, Wii had Wii Sports, Switch had Breath of the Wild. Switch 2 has ....???
 
A in comparison with competition - it's by far better

B- in Nintendo level of greatness - Switch 1 started with so much great games that S2 can be fine at max. We will never have content as great as MK8, Smash Ultimate, Breath of the Wild
 
It's low B for me, mk world is alright but DK was peak gaming. I'm still waiting or the backlog of OG switch games to still get updates to take advantage of the hardware, Boost mode is cope when they have cp2077 running on the thing.

This first year to me has been more about finally being able to play 3rd party games on a Nintendo console. Final Fantasy Remake and Rebirth, RE Requiem, and Cyberpunk.

Loved DK Bananza, MP4 didn't live up to the previous ones, but it wasn't bad either. Just "not enough".

And Fatal Frame is always welcomed. I can't be objective with it, it's one of my favourite sagas ever since the first one, and I think 2 remake is excellent.

I know those were relesed on Switch 1, but, discovering the clasic Tomb Raiders has been an amazing experience. I only played 4 back when I was like 8 or 9 years old on Dreamcast, was never able to finish it, but I will now.

Overall, I think I'm giving it an A.

Only one really good exclusive (DK Bananza)

Game Key Cards are trash

Metroid Prime 4 was underwhelming

Mario Kart World was VERY underwhelming and no one plays or talks about it like MK8

No other big games really

Props to CD Projekt Red for putting Cyberpunk 2077 and DLC on a physical card (but Square Enix can't bother to put their games on a physical cart (Octopath Traveler 0, Adventures of Elliot...among others...which COULD fit easily even on smaller cards.)

Switch 2 pro controller is very nice

'C-' for me!

( Probably an 'A' for the poor people who only have the Switch 2 and use the Switch 2 to play big 3rd party games, otherwise most play those much better on PC, XSX or PS5....even Steam Deck)

I'd say C.

Fairly disappointing. Donkey Kong Bananza is the only exclusive I had any interest in. The system was pretty much saved by next-gen updates to old Switch games, which were more plentiful than I had anticipated. Really need more new games - especially Mario and Zelda.
 
A... The best Mario Kart game ever, and day and date Resident Evil.. played Cyberpunk and The great circle... Never thought I would say that. The build quality of the hardware is very good... To be honest I only really play docked.. but the screen is more that o.k... And there is so much coming and we are still waiting for a main Nintendo direct...Glad I chose to just stick with one console... This is the perfect Switch upgrade imho..

A special mention goes to the new Switch 2 Pro controller... It's one of the best feeling things I have ever had in my hands.... and that's saying something these days.. :)

It's true, even though I don't use it for much Third Party gaming I think the fact that it can play those games and does get them is a huge boon. And the build quality for sure is a step up over the Switch 1 (I also think MKW is a great game).
 
Didn't buy a single Switch 2 game. Fucking Game Key Cards. Xenoblade X butchered in the Switch 2 patch. Only good thing about this underwhelming console is the Pro Controller and FPS improvements on some Switch 1 games.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but didn't Switch 1's first year have Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, and Mario Odyssey ... To me that's an A. Those are all system sellers. Switch 2 doesn't have a system seller yet or I'd own one. Waiting for an OLED version of the console is easy. Maybe the rumored Direct next week will change that.

It is, by far, my most played console over the last 12 months. Only exclusives to my liking were Bananza en MK World. Thank god for Switch 2 upgrades and faster loading times on older Switch games.
Hate the d-pad on the pro controller, joycons are way better than before, price was fine. It did not have the Wii magic hype but it is a far better console.
For now: B.
 
Nintendo's sales logic hasn't changed like an overpowered anime character, the more it gets alienated the stronger the impact it gets from nostalgia.
 
Straight A for me, aside from Metroid Prime 4 I've enjoyed everything I've purchased for it. By far the most played platform for me since it launched.

But surprisingly my most played game is a multiplat, which is a first for a Nintendo machine.
 
Gave it a B. Third party ports have been pretty good. Capcom in particular has done a great job. From Nintendo, I liked MKW & DK Bananza.

Hopefully Nintendo will have something good to show during the next Direct.
 
I'd rate the Switch 2's first 12 months a B-. It has been mostly good but nothing amazing. The lack of upgrades from Switch games has been disappointing though (Xenoblade Chronicles etc).

The system is really just more of the same but with better specs. The handheld itself has a sub-par LCD screen which is a disappointment after owning a Switch OLED plus HDR is lacklustre. 1080p resolution is nice though, a plus over, say, the Steam Deck. Games look better now on a 4K at least, which makes up for the terrible handheld screen.

C for me. Mario Kart World at that price, I expected at least some free post-launch updates. I didn't even bother with MP4, even though it was my main reason for buying it. Looking forward to Star Fox and the single-player Splatoon tho.
 
Not very exciting hardware, disappointing screen. Lacking compelling new features. Software was mostly a miss for me too. Bananza is cool but none of the others were big hits.

However I still use it a lot, although mostly for Switch 1 games.

I havent connected with much outside of Pokemon ZA and Mario Kart World which was bare bones.
Looking forward to Star Fox soon.

C if you only care about First Party Switch 2 Exclusives, which are not that many in year 1.

Just bought a Switch 2 with DK, Kirby:FL & Yoshi and thats essentially all first party S2 games which interest me and cannot be played elsewhere.

Also interested in both Zelda games and MP4 but I can emulate these with better graphics & mods on my PC.

Nintendo first party becoming super expensive, it's really hard for me to buy many of them, even though I want to.

BoTW and ToTK finally running at acceptable frame rates, but still a Switch game at heart.
at least Nintendo gave us some upgrades routes rather than new purchase.

Many great thrid parties compared to switch launch year (or probably any consoles from nintendo), but I mainly bought them for pc handhelds because generally steam is much cheaper than Nintendo store.
Some third parties games like vanillaware games didn't have pc version, so it's still important to have handheld consoles for some third party on the go.
 
I give it an A. That's how Nintendo normally goes. First half of a systems life is stellar, second half is meh.

I loved DK, MKW is meh compared to 8 but definitely still good, MP4 I quit playing, TOTK at 60fps is amazing. The 3rd parties and RPG's running great on it is a big deal for me. All the free/paid increased performance updates is awesome. Plus increased storage is nice.

I only use it to play switch games for the most part. I've got more time playing Advance Wars on it than anything else and that didn't even get an official patch (thanks Nintendo, because a resolution bump is such hard work) but at least the frame rates are stable now.

Mario Kart was such a let down that I forgot it existed until this thread reminded me.
 
I'm a little stunned to confess I have 19 physical Switch 2 games (granted, the RE triple pack is 3 of them). Couple of imports. I did not expect that. And yes, I count game key cards as physical, and two of them are currently loaned to my 14 year old as evidence.

It's a solid piece of kit and I enjoy it but so far outside of mario kart world & DK there's been nothing for me.

I appreciate my switch 1 games run better and a few have upgrade paths to switch 2.

Gonna need more 1st and 3rd party exclusives to win me over.
 
A big electronic retail chain is offering the NS2 now for 395 and I'm very much inclined. On the other hand I probably should wait for the revised EU model.

A D for me. There's good stuff here, but on a personal level, there's been a lot of disappointments as well. I realize that won't be the case for everyone, which is cool, but it just hasn't been an exciting first year for me at all.
 
Solid C for me.
DK was great, and I loved playing Dragon Quest 1, 2 on it.
But thats really it. I played a ton of N64 and some Gamecube games on the virtual console thing.

Everyone else posting tons of 3rd party stuff. Why? Those games are so much better on more powerful consoles / PC.
 
C - Mario Kart, Donkey Kong and Cyberpunk are the only Switch 2 exclusive games I own having bought the console at launch, all released within a month of launch. The rest of the exclusive first party output was smaller stuff which doesn't appeal to me much (not a fan of Pokemon or Yoshi games, and Mario sports games are usually extremely mediocre) and upgrades to Switch 1 games which seem to have been a mixed bag and are not something I'm willing to pay for. While it has had decent third-party support like Requiem, which I might pick up when the price drops, there was also the long dry spell in which, supposedly, few third-party devs had development kits. It's good for replaying Switch games with better performance and there are more games coming up I'm looking forward to, but even before the price hike everything was £10-20 more expensive than it should have been, which makes it very unlikely I'll be buying many S2 games new this generation. It's not a disaster but has had more disappointments and frustrations than successes. Third-party support looks like it'll pick up in the coming year, and I've got my eye on Call of Duty and Elden Ring (again, when their prices come down to £50 or below, which is my upper limit for what any game is worth to me), while hopefully the rumoured Nintendo Direct next week will show something more on the first-party front than remakes, upgrades, and entries in secondary/tertiary series which aren't of much interest to me personally (not that there's anything wrong with them, but I'm a Zelda and Mario guy).
 
I'm enjoying it a lot. The larger screen is great and is a size that allows me to really enjoy in handheld mode. I must have been lucky because my LCD seems to be pretty good quality, although it should have been OLED. The joycons are still pretty clumsy to use without a grip of some sort, and Nintendo really needs a left joycon option with a d-pad. I know there are a couple of good third party options so it's not the end of the world. I've been using the abxylute N6 for the past week or so and it feels more like using a steam deck, so that's nice.

I'd probably give it a B after the first year. I think it needs a few more exclusive Nintendo games to hit a good stride, though.
 
D nothing worthwhile..

starfox remake and the last yoshi game are worth it,
pikopia is alright but overstayed it's welcome honestly.

as a switch 1 owner with many games... the switch 2 is basically a switch pro and totally worth it.
if the switch 2 is the first console? EH
