What is it?
Games Done Quick is a series of charity video game marathons. These events feature high-level gameplay by speedrunners raising money for charity.
The GDQ has teamed up with several charities in its nine-year history, including Doctors Without Borders and the Prevent Cancer Foundation.
They are currently the largest fundraising event globally for both charities.

To date, Games Done Quick has raised over 31 million dollars.

Details:
Summer Games Done Quick 2021 will be returning once again, benefiting Doctors Without Borders!
In order to ensure the continued safety of the attendees, runners, volunteers, and staff, this year's event will once again be heading online.
If you're a runner, please be sure to look your email on May 18th for instructions

The event schedule is now available and we have a great list:
Nintendogs, Penumbra, Trackmania Nations Forever (blindfolded), Psychonauts, Ninja Gaiden, Outer Wilds, Factorio, Shadow of the Colossus, Dark Souls 3 and many more

This has started btw. Pikmin 3 currently.

It's a bit odd how many trans people are in this. Doesn't matter to me, but it's definitely a much higher ratio than in the general population.

Thanks for reminding me, will watch for sure. I hope the awful games block will be good (or extra awful, depending how you look at it) this time.

Speedrunning typically attracts people on the autism spectrum, which also seems to have a correlation with transgenderism.

(Not trying to be funny, it's just something I've noticed over the years).

Buttface.

...stop making fun of autism. Some of our best posters are on the spectrum.

I like how Air Canada had no fucking clue, lol.

GDQ has quickly spiralled into a No Fun Allowed event ever since the events when Blue (?) kept laughing nonstop and that obnoxious “orrrrrrb!” meme was born.
These days I wouldn’t have the time to watch it live even if I wanted to.

Essentially they want to make it a kid friendly corporate event they can sell sponership slots on and give a tiny fraction of that to charity while lining there own pockets.

IGN didn't buy Humble Bundle because they like to give money to charity, it kinda reminds me of that alot these days.

Did you miss the part where I said I wasn't making a joke?

Also, according to specialists, I have autism 🤷‍♂️ (Although I rejected the diagnosis, as I feel the tests are flawed).

...but I was making a joke. I thought calling some of our members autistic was a dead giveaway.

It's a bit odd how many trans people are in this. Doesn't matter to me, but it's definitely a much higher ratio than in the general population.

I'm sure they're nice enough people, but man they put like almost ZERO effort into their "transitions". Growing out their stringy hair or buying a wig and calling yourself a girls name doesn't do it for me, you're just a crossdresser. GDQ seeks these people out I'm pretty sure too. They are beyond woke at this point, and I think they take any trans person who applies to be a part of it, cause the ones I've watched so far are nowhere near top level speedrunners of the games they are playing.

I wish that these folks would seek help before going full blown mental case and claiming "trans", and I swear to god the ones I saw have no clue how women act and just mimic the mannerisms that they see popular female streamers do. My wife hasn't adjusted her hair out of her sightline in her life as many times as some of these folk did during their runs.

Content wise, this event gets weaker every time, and I think that has alot to do with seeking out the Diversity crowd and not wanting anything to do with top level runners or even top level streamers. If the goal is charity, they should be seeking out the best streamers twitch has to offer that can run these games quick and be entertaining. So many of these on the spectrum types are just not good at speaking about what is going on in the game, and those runs tend to bring in such small amounts of donations. Speak with the folks that you have banned, if it's language, talk to them about that and sign some type of contract with them that they will be fined if they curse, but lets see some records broke.

I've been disappointed with how many runs so far are just PC games where it's glitch out of the map and run to the end. DA:I was this, and it was the same thing last time DA:O was run, that's not fun to watch at all. Wish they'd eliminate racing games altogether. F-Zero was horrible to watch, cause you spend too much time in the menus and not playing the game. Shadow of the Colossus was fun, Sundered was interesting, and while he skipped a bunch of the game Psychonauts was entertaining. Today was kind of misses across the board for me other then Shadow. Hope tomorrow is better.

Eh, I'm not bothered by the transgenderism, people are who they are so long as they are skilled players it's fine. I watch for the speedruns, the fun commentary and the awful games block. That being said I feel like GDC has been going downhill:

1. The content has been sanitized to the point of not being fun to watch anymore
2. The skill level has been dropping considerably over the past 2 years
3. Streaming from home is lame, I know Covid sucks but now it's not any different from watching a regular speedrunning stream

Skill and personality, that is what makes a good speedrun.

I mean this is fun to watch:

Or this:

Or this:

Or this:

And this:

It doesn't help that many of the top speedrunners either don't want to or aren't allowed to participate at GDQ due to their colorful personalities. There are still some cool speedruns here and there, but they are getting less and less frequent, which is a real shame.

GDQ is always good fun. You don't have to be afraid of pronouns, people.

It‘s still fun in patches, but the quality of the runs has gone downhill, and obviously covid has not helped. I find myself watching less and less of the runs every time. They’re having way too much obscure stuff, and aren’t getting the speed runners with good presenting personalities - which is vital to make the whole thing entertaining.

Shadow Of The Colossus is the best run I’ve seen so far this time round.

On so many runners being trans: it’s a small community that obviously feels happier in the online space, and that’s where speed running lives too: no real mystery.

The online aspect killed the atmosphere (And the cringe compilations). I've seen most of these runners on their own channels, so it didn't feel like an event.
Why cant they have an event. It is not like people have to sit near eachother

I had a ton of fun. The Bayonetta run specially was one of my favourites. Next one will probably be a lot different if the COVID situation is somehow under control.

This dude is playing Super Mario 64 blindfolded.

holy shit, this is crazy.

Edit: this is INCREDIBLE. Watch this shit, yo.
Yup, that was crazy.

I don’t think this would‘ve been feasible in the regular pre-COVID events, too. There’s pros and cons to not doing the event in person, and this is definitely a pro.

SMB3 2-player 100% was also very good.

I think it’s quite crazy that the event keeps racking in record sums even when the overall quality has dropped since the GDQ heyday, when they first broke the $1million barrier.
