No more news has been heard about the game since late 2019, however, possibly due to the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic just a couple of months after the pair’s announcement.

Now, however, Suda has revealed that Hotel Barcelona is still a going concern. During a Reddit AMA earlier today, Suda was asked if the collaboration was still going to happen one day.

“I contact Swery65 at least once every 2 to 3 months, even during COVID, about how to make Hotel Barcelona happen,” Suda replied.

“It really depends on the timing, since it gets heavily influenced on the work I’m doing at that period.”

New trademarks have been filed for the horror game from Suda51 and Swery65 | VGC

The pair first announced plans for horror title Hotel Barcelona in 2019…

As spotted by VGC, Suehiro’s White Owls studio registered Japanese trademark applications for ‘Hotel Barcelona’ and ‘Death Game Hotel’ on March 25, 2022, both of which are active.

And on October 27, international trademark applications for both titles were also registered and are currently pending.

The trademarks cover goods and services including computer game software, virtual reality headsets, computer hardware, audio playback devices, and personal digital assistants.

It’s unclear if the trademark applications are indicative of an imminent announcement, but they show that work related to the project is going on behind the scenes.
