They stopped including the case strap from what I've read. I've had both the 512GB and the 64GB models and the difference is that the 512GB model has the anti-glare screen, color logo on the case, micro fiber cloth, and charger baggie. My 64GB model came with the case lift strap thingy.
Yeah, just checked a few unboxing from last year and the case had a colored logo, mine has no color. Guess they're trying their best to save every penny. Not a big deal, paid 377€ for it and it's awesome.

Played 4 chapters of RE4R on the deck, recommended settings + textures up to high and managed 50-60 fps most of the time. Very impressive! Battery only lasts like an hour and a bit, but more time and my arms start aching anyway.

The back buttons are great for reloading and weapon switching.

Only the 512GB cases have the color. I think that it also came with a custom keyboard layout. Nothing major. 64GB is the best bang-for-buck out of all the units. Especially if you're willing to do the SSD upgrade.

Btw if you bought a 64gb and upgrade the ssd, dont be a cheap mofo like me and buy a 512gb one, its too small I'm already thinking of replacing it for 1-2tb lol.

I guess ill stick the 512gb on my pc or get an enclosure for it, yolo

I'm surprised to hear you're getting above 40 fps!

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly, but I think I saw a few articles claiming they were struggling to get 40 for the Chainsaw Demo?

Yeah, I expected it to be lower performance wise but its been really good so far. The demo part of the village does struggle a bit which I guess thats why but you can pretty much get 40fps mostly locked.

I capped the game at 45fps and have been getting a steady frame rate for the vast majority of my playthrough (chapter 10 at the moment)

It took me 4 hours of constant powering on and off to get past the initial update that was always getting stuck at 1 second left. Not a good start, Valve. That said finally got it up and running. Plugins and tweaks are set up. I guess the first game has to be Aperture Desk Job in the spirit of Welcome Park for Vita and Astro's Playroom for PS5.

EDIT: Oh wow, some games actually have official control layouts that's not just using XBOX controller presets. They have functioning L4, L5, R4, and R5 already.

I've reimaged the Deck a shitload of times and on the occasions that the update wouldn't finish, switching to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel instead of 5GHz allowed it complete without issue. I don't get it, but it works.🤷‍♂️

On a separate note, I was on a trip with a co-worker and I thought it would be cool to let her try out the Deck. I had it in offline mode and I thought she'd like to try some WiiU emulation, but it wouldn't launch games. Tried opening Cemu(EmuDeck) in Desktop Mode and that wouldn't open. Eventually we just settled on some Yuzu SMO. Later I paired to a hotspot on my phone and Cemu worked just fine. I did some research and I learned that it was, for some reason, tied to DSU Controller which requires a network connection to function. If you remove it and use the Xinput option for Pro Controller it will launch in offline mode just fine. I'm not sure on this, but I think DSU is tied to motion/gyro controls. I don't use that, so it wasn't a big deal for me to just remove it in controller options. Just a heads up. It would suck to want to play some modded BoTW on a flight or drive with no internet available, or if you wanted simply to stay in offline mode, only to find out you couldn't launch it.

It's funny, I bought a bunch of games during the steam sale specifically for the Deck but I've since set up most of the emulators I want to on the machine all I'm doing is using those now.

Lost odyssey runs like a dream on this thing.
Man I loved Lost Odyssey, I wonder if its BC on Xbox Series X?

Speaking of which, does Xenia run Blue Dragon fine? I know the steam version had some issues back on the PC release that were never addressed

Blue Dragon never got a PC release, you might be thinking of a different game.

Not tried it on the Steam deck yet but it's on my list of games to try along with Eternal Sonata and Ridge Racer 6.

Anyone complaining about battery life on the Deck has clearly never used a Vita. 3 hours of Nier Automata with mostly high settings at 60 FPS using FSR is amazing. I thought I was going to have to cap it at a lower frame rate but this is more than acceptable. Heck, that's smoother than what my PS4 Pro played the game at. This thing is crazy.

Varies massively depending on the game, though. Portal 2 squeezes almost five hours of life out of it, but Valheim barely scrapes an hour. Also, I'm not happy with the battery drain in sleep mode. I've lost count of the number of times I've picked it up after not playing anything for a while and it's completely dead.

My Atomic purple back plate arrived yesterday. Installing couldn't be easier. Chose to use the highest raised paddles and they are straight heaven. Amazing comfort and very cool when playing a driving game to shift with them. The shell doesn't fit 100% flush at the top (this is because of the added thermal pad) but it fits well enough that it doesn't bother me. The steam deck gets less hot with this backplate (72 degrees when playing jedi Fallen Order) and the fan speed is reduced. The backplate gets fairly hot, but I haven't found myself touching the plate at all and when I do, it's not so hot that it would burn your hand or anything. Couldn't be happier with this backplate. Will post some pictures of my deck when I get home.

How quickly does in drain in sleep Mode? Roughly. Are we talking days or hours?

More like a a week or two, I'd say. I have a lot of games machines, and the Steam Deck isn't my most used one, but if I pick it up to try something new it's likely to be empty.

Maybe this is to be expected, but I can pick up a Game Boy or DS that I haven't used in years and it will still have some juice left. There's a full power-down option that can be selected by holding the power button but because it takes so long to boot up again I don't always use it. I mean, I don't know if I'm going to pick it up again later today or get distracted by something else.

Battery life is a huge downside to the Deck, to the point where I can't consider it a truly portable machine. The one time I took it anywhere - to a laundry - I played a bit of Geometry Wars, a bit of Burnout, and the battery died before my duvet was dry.

These are needed! My original Decks battery was utter dog turd.

I couldn't get Bully to run on my Windows PC but it just works on the Deck. Had to mod it to unlock the 30 FPS cap and now it's running perfectly at 60 FPS aside from the prerendered vids. I was a bit wary of modding on the Deck since I'm unfamiliar with Linux but it's not all that different from Windows. Had to add some Proton specific launch parameters to Steam and that's it.

Just picked up one recently, pretty cool device, can anyone here recommend a good cheap Dock? Looking to hook it up to a 4K60 monitor I've not used in a while.

Basically any old USB-C hub that supports power delivery will do the job. There are hundreds to choose from. Mine is by Anker, it's just a dongle sort of thing rather than a Deck-specific, Switch-style dock, but it works great, seems pretty much unbreakable, and fits in the hollow underneath the case.

Yesterday I finally got around to dual boot setup on SSD. Finally a good balance, while I did not have issues with Windows 11 as my main OS, I felt the nuisance of steam deck tools to update controller configuration was just a little to extra when all I want to do is pick up and play. It was a bit since I had touched the steam deck and was so happy to be able to change the boot video finally as well. 😂 Small but I got me the one that looks like PS1 boot screen.

Bought a few little things as well. While I had the baseus power bank, I got me the charging station as well, as silicone cover and thumb caps.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Me after getting my steam deck "Man I am going to sink my teeth into so many long play rpgs I couldn't finish on desktop"

Steam "Yeah so this $5 early access game is your life now"

Pretty much the same here, I will finish Bioshock Infinite on some system one day, I've gone from having the PS3, PS4 Remaster, Steam, Switch and now Steam Deck

One day....

Then again I got Aliens and Death Stranding in that Humble Bundle yesterday.....

Yeah. I can play Dead Cells for 6 hours. Stardew Valley for 5 to 6. I don't know why people expect to run games like Cyberpunk that uses all the Deck's power for hours. Imagine powering a PS4 with a battery that size of the Deck's.

Cryoutilities and 4G vram is like magic.
It improves the Assassin Crred Odyssey frame rate from 30-40fps with bad stutter to 40fps locked! It felt so much smoother overall!

Thing is that you can easily cap it at 50 FPS (or heck even 40 FPS) and you will not feel much of a difference if any at all and save even more battery life. Ability to change the refresh rate and cap the games framerate is amazing.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is currently free on Steam. Says "playable" on Steam Deck

This is a fantastic game.

For anyone who ends up liking it I'd suggest also checking out phantom brigade if you also have at least a half decent PC since it doesn't run too well on the deck:
