"WE FUCKED UP OUR FINACES WITH OUR FREAKING MINDS!"

On a serious note, pls just make better games and don't use outdated engines.

Square likes xbox, but Sony is paying square in pennies to keep games off of their platform.
Square played smartly. They spent some time turning around Microsoft, marketing FF XV and being at different shows, putting all FF games in Game Pass, allowing excellent BC versions for FF XIII and 60fps for FF XII etc...

Technically, this didn't cost them much, but it was enough a display to show Sony that "yup, we can do business with Microsoft so put the money on the table". And then they got the checks they hoped for for several games.

History shows us that Sony has helped bail out Square. Then they sold SE back their shares.

SE bet big on the global market, and their financial troubles happened during their big push for multiplatform. Maybe Dragon Quest wasn’t a big hit on Xbox, or Final Fantasy XV, or Nier Automata. Their big western IPs all failed to reach the kind of audience their budgets demanded. Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy. They ended up selling their studios and IP because they couldn’t financially support those endeavors.

You see where I’m going with this?

Maybe, maybe not. Who knows ?

Maybe they performed perfectly well for being later releases + Game Pass (DQ and Nier). Nier Automata must have performed well enough for Replicant to come day-one on Xbox.

If you don't make an actual effort at providing your series on a consistent basis on a given platform, you can't expect a fanbase for your products to be there all the time and respond positively.

Give Kawazu a $100 million for a new SaGa game. Incredible production values, the whole shebang. Watch it sell 500 copies, and then fold the studio.
