What exactly are the benefits of AI to anybody that isn't a business?

Everything is more expensive, companies are having a hay day laying people off, less job prospects in general, lower likelihood of promotions or pay increases, etc.

I don't think there's anything wrong with AI being used like this. The agents in have at work creating or at least outlining a great deal of bullshit paperwork I have to do is great.

The mantra at work is "AI generates, humans validate" and unfortunately the lack of the latter all across the industry is what creates slop.

You can tell something is AI from a mile away. No one's using AI create endless conversations in an open world, but you'll see Artwork clearly generated from "Make idea X look like concept Y" and just plastered all over the game.

I'm constantly having to course correct AI in my projects. I don't have a problem with it though. What used to take months/years now takes days/weeks. That is the kind of efficiency that video games really need to embrace.

100% agree. I use AI all the time to help write my scripts for my projects that I use through SCCM. There's no way I'd go back to using no AI. It has literally taken things that would take me one full week to create and validate and test and has shrunk it down to a four to six hour project, and that's no lie or BS.

At some point, gamers will have to adjust and learn to understand that AI will be here with us, helping to create the games we love forever. Just like with human creators, the cream will rise to the top and the slop will be passed over and fall to the bottom.

AI nowadays literally 10x productivity at work when someone masters it. Hard to imagine in next 10 years STEM field employers would hire people without any AI skills.

In our gaming hobby tho, I think many gamers opposing AI are mainly due to bad first impressions in earlier years when dev used bad AI generated assets or some AI scam games.

Aside from from LLM, most superscaling techs are AI too, and we all embrace DLSS, PSSR, etc.

Take my recent playthrough in AC unity, the crowds are impressive to date but literally there are like 5 face models for 1000 NPCs. AI could really benefit situations like this and diversify the NPC looks.

And your example is one of like a 100 others that I believe most gamers aren't thinking about when they're trashing AI usage in games.

We all have to embrace the fact that the cost of making games just has to come down. We can't have the average AAA game cost $300 million. The hobby we love will collapse if that's the case.
 
Complain or not, these companies could not give a fuck. AI is here and it will be used extensively EVERYWHERE. So push back as hard as you want and sook all you like but it's here to stay. That's not to say I'm a fan. I love the human touch and prefer it but these money people couldn't give 2 fucks about what we feel.
 
The AI I'm forced to use at work sucks. It's constantly wrong for technical accounting. The only thing it's good for is helping me with editing my emails and documents.
 
Somehow with Sony I question if they'll truly learn to keep their budgets stagnant like Ghost of Yotei, and not just balloon other projects more.

They gotta do something, as it will be only sustainable for fewer and fewer IP.
